  • 'We're in this together': Local police officers overwhelmed by donations after Dallas tragedy

Cookies, cupcakes, handwritten notes, Gatorade and even Tang. Those are some of the ways citizens have chosen to show their support and appreciation for area law enforcement in the weeks since a sniper murdered five police officers in Dallas in the wake of the fatal officer-involved shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota. “You get to where you feel like you’re kind of on an island, and you’re all by yourself, and so the support from the community is fantastic because we’re in this together,” said Capt. Todd Enzbrenner with the Sand Springs Police Department. Since the shooting, he...

On Tuesday, the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) formally announced the removal of the lesser prairie chicken from the endangered species protection list. They did not take this step voluntarily; FWS lost a court case last year which ordered the agency to remove the bird from the list. However, even as they complied with the court’s order, the FWS issued a threat that the agency’s land grab under the guise of conservation was not over. In the words of Director Dan Ashe, “Responding to this court ruling by removing the bird from the Federal List does not mean we are...

Earlier this week, CoachingSearch looked at the longest-tenured assistants in FBS. Now, here’s a look at the tenure of every FBS head coach. Illustrating the amount of turnover in the profession, 108 of the 129 FBS head coaches have been hired since 2010, and 88 have been hired in the past four years. That means more than 2/3 of all head coaches have been hired since 2013.Some veteran coaches who left the list this offseason included Frank Beamer (1987), Gary Pinkel (2001), George O’Leary (2004), and Steve Spurrier (2005).First, the longest tenured coach in each conference:AAC: Ken Niumatalolo (Navy) -...

In a nine-word per curiam decision, eight justices of the United States Supreme Court have revealed they are deadlocked in a 4 to 4 divide on the new immigration procedures of the Obama administration, with its executive decision to not deport the immigrant parents of children born in the United States (thus citizens) and give them legal status but less than citizenship in the process. The State of Texas, joined by 25 others states, filed a lawsuit to block this executive action, which affects between 4 and 5 million immigrants in the United States. The case was before the Supreme...

With all the zeal of a Joey-come-lately, gun-control convert Joe Scarborough clashed on today’s Morning Joe with Second Amendment defender Tom Cole, Republican congressman from Oklahoma. When Scarborough lectured Cole about terrorists “who want to kill people in your district,” Cole shot back “Joe, I know something about terrorism. I lived through an incident in Oklahoma City.” And when Scarborough patronizingly instructed Cole to “read the Constitution,” Cole retorted “I think I’ve read the Constitution as often as you have.” Mike Barnicle waited until after the interview to take a cheap shot at Cole, claiming that he is “handcuffed to...

Crews were in an intense standoff with a suspect in Yukon on Friday afternoon. Shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday, police officers and some ranchers were attempting to wrangle a pony. It was a dangerous situation since the pony was trapped in the green space along I-40 and Czech Hall Rd., near Yukon. Troopers shut down the outside lane of I-40 as crews shot the pony with a tranquilizer dart. Fortunately, they were able to corral the little guy and get him in a trailer. Drivers in the area are encouraged to use extreme caution.

The governor of Oklahoma has signed a pro-life bill into that that will teach the public, and students, that “abortion kills a living human being.” The notion is easily provable given the inordinate amount of scientific evidence, ultrasound imaging and comments from top scientists about the humanity of unborn children. Here’s more on the new law Governor Mary Fallin signed on Monday, the Humanity of the Unborn Child Act, which requires the state health department to launch a new educational campaign: The act, authored by Republican Rep. Ann Coody, authorizes the health department to develop a public information campaign about...

A strong right to keep and bear arms amendment to the Oklahoma state constitution was killed by the Republican leadership at the last minute. They did this by running out the clock in the conference committee, by not voting on HJR 1009.  The clock ran out on May 19th. The tactics were similar to what was done in 2014.  This year the measure was passed with overwhelming votes in both the House and the Senate. It passed the House 66-7.  It passed the Senate 39 to 7.  That is by 90% and 85% respectively.  Obviously, the measure was wildly...
