  • Boy’s Water Pistol Threat Leads To Confiscation Of Father’s Guns, License

Yeah, this makes sense: A 10-year-old suggests a bully should be shot with a water pistol, so the police confiscate his father’s firearms and the State revokes his concealed-carry permit. It happened in New York, a State that is notorious for the difficulty it causes its residents who want to legally carry a gun and that recently suspended the U.S. Constitution and passed draconian gun restrictions. The father posted news of his plight April 1 on the forum.

A bipartisan group of senators has struck a deal to expand gun background checks to all commercial sales — whether at gun shows, via the Internet or in any circumstance involving paid advertising, according to Senate aides familiar with the talks. The proposed agreement would be more stringent than current law, which requires checks only when purchases are made through a licensed dealer, but less than originally sought by President Obama and congressional Democrats, who were seeking to expand background checks to nearly every kind of sale. The agreement should secure enough bipartisan support for the Senate to proceed to...

Joe, who is deployed to Honduras serving his country, was recently able to meet Beth and their 6 year old daughter in Pennsylvania for a family visit. He also wanted to show her the Philadelphia neighborhood where he grew up. It was to be a happy family reunion between a soldier and his girl. What could be more American than that? But now, she has an arrest record and is facing a felony charge that could imprison her for up to 15 years. How could this happen in a supposedly ‘free’ country? It is simple really. It seems those that tried desperately to warn of such an insidious plot had hit the bullseye with their warnings after all. News came from multiple NY State based firearms enthusiast websites late Friday that confiscations of Pistol Owner ID Cards, as well as firearms and accessories has commenced in NY under the provisions of the horribly flawed, draconian and blatantly unconstitutional NY SAFE Act. Those folks having their weapons and FID cards confiscated have been discovered to have been prescribed multiple different types of psychotropic drugs... Read more at

Although he is famously averse to leaving New York State, Gov. Cuomo would be well advised to make a day trip 60 miles across the border to a booming city in Pennsylvania. Williamsport, a town of 30,000 people, is renowned as the site of the Little League World Series. More instructive to Cuomo as he dithers over approving fracking for natural gas in New York is how stunningly the industry has improved the area’s fortunes. Once plagued by a shrinking population and economy — like much of upstate New York — Williamsport now boasts the third-fastest-growing metropolitan economy in the...

The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association has filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York challenging the constitutionality of Title 38 of the Rules of the City of New York. NYSRPA believes that 38 RCNY infringes upon the Second Amendment by denying the specifically enumerated civil right to possess and carry a firearm for personal defense as well as completely prohibiting residents from practicing safe gun handling at a firearms range or participating in shooting events located outside the borders of the City of New York. The lawsuit requests a permanent injunction...

  • Democrats push bill in Congress to require gun insurance under penalty of fine

A New York Democratic lawmaker is behind a national push that would force gun owners to buy liability insurance or face a $10,000 fine. The Firearm Risk Protection Act, pushed by Rep. Carolyn Maloney and seven co-sponsors, follows efforts at the state level to create the controversial new kind of insurance for gun owners. "For too long, gun victims and society at large have borne the brunt of the costs of gun violence," Maloney said in a written statement. "My bill would change that by shifting some of that cost back onto those who own the weapons." Read more:

While other states have been moving right along with deploying the decades-old hydrofracking technique that’s unlocking access to their hitherto hard-to-reach oil and gas reserves (and enjoying the subsequent wealth- and job-creation that comes with it), the state of New York has been hanging back while Governor Andrew Cuomo decides whether he cares more about serving the best interests of his state or placating the vociferous green lobby. The governor has been dithering between continuing New York’s current ban on hydraulic fracturing or allowing fuel companies to go for it in at least the state’s southern portion, and has several...
  • State Sen. Malcolm Smith, city Councilman Halloran arrested in 'bribery plot' to rig NYC mayor race

State Sen. Malcolm Smith and city Councilman Dan Halloran were arrested this morning on charges they plotted to rig this year’s mayoral election through fraud and bribes. The pols allegedly formed an alliance built on cash payments and fraud to get Smith — one of the state’s top Democrats — placed on the GOP mayoral ballot, sources said. FBI agents arrested them both at their Queens homes shortly after 6 a.m. “I have no idea,” Republican Halloran, in handcuffs, told a Post reporter when asked if he knew why he was being arrested. “I’m sure the truth will come out...

New York State's review of high-volume hydraulic fracturing has taken more than four years—and it's not over yet. Right now, all eyes are on the state's health commissioner, Nirav Shah, who has said that he will tell Governor Andrew Cuomo within weeks whether the Department of Environmental Conservation's plan for "fracking" would be sufficient to protect human health. Then it's up to the governor to make a final decision on whether to permit the technique, which involves pumping large volumes of water mixed with chemicals into rock far underground in order to release natural gas. • GOP licking chops at gov’s poll slide (NY's Cuomo nosedives)

NY Gov Andy Cuomo’s once stratospheric approval ratings have hit a slide — the gun-control law Cuomo pushed through the Legislature in January following the Newtown massacre helped drive the Democrat’s job approval ratings from 74 percent last December to 55 percent last month in Quinnipiac polls......he was losing in the New York suburbs and upstate to GOP Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey in a hypothetical presidential run. The GOP believes Cuomo's politically exploitable missteps, include: * Delaying on the natural-gas drilling technique known as fracking, which has divided the state. * Obtaining luxury seats for himself and top...

(snip) The result is New Yorkers are voting with their feet, with roughly 1.7 million leaving between 2000 and 2010 (snip) “The Golden State, with hundreds of miles of picturesque Pacific coastline, nonetheless managed to drive off a net of 1.5 million residents between 2000 and 2010 -- over 4 percent of its 2000 population,” the authors wrote.
