Tuition plus room and board at a four-year institution cost more than $23,000, on average, in the 2011-2012 school year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, about $10,000 a year more than the price tag in 1991-1992. Paying for college takes a lot of planning, scrimping and saving. And no state does more to help its citizens save for their children’s future than Nevada.

Although same-sex marriage became legal on Oct. 9 in Nevada, some Las Vegas wedding chapels are refusing to perform the marriages.. Those places are, the American Civil Liberties Union says, breaking the law. A 12-year Metro officer was arrested Thursday on charges linked to child pornography after a tip from Google led to a three-month investigation, Las Vegas police. Officer James Henry, 37, faces 10 counts each of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography, Metro said. Google notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that someone had uploaded an image of child pornography in June, according to Henry’s arrest report. Family Court Judge William Potter responded Thursday to an allegation that he discriminated against a lesbian mother being deployed to Cuba. “Obviously I don’t have a problem with her being gay because I gave her custody,” the judge said. Potter’s comments stemmed from a Las Vegas Review-Journal story about the divorce case of Michelle Bagalawis, who since has changed her last name to Angeles, and Johnny Cardona. Cliven Bundy appears in a campaign ad to elect an African-American man to Congress, saying he ought to be able to say what he wants without being labeled a racist. Nevada will oppose an effort by opponents of same-sex marriages to get the full 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hear arguments to ban gay marriage in the Silver State, Gov. Brian Sandoval said Wednesday. The Republican governor provided a quick answer to an appeals court call for briefs within three weeks from the state and an advocacy group that won the right to gay marriage on behalf of eight Nevada same-sex couples. The lesbian mother of a 7-year-old boy is appealing to the Nevada Supreme Court to keep her son in Las Vegas during her four-month deployment to Cuba. A Metro officer was arrested on several charges connected to child pornography, the department announced Thursday. Officer James Henry, 37, is facing 10 counts each of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography, police said in a press release.
