AMAC keeps pushing PureTalk over other wireless carriers as having no agenda or being "un-woke". How does PureTalk rate compared to other carriers in terms of access, reliability, cost and customer service? How easy is it to switch over?

Will Donald Trump score an important victory against China by locking out Huawei from western networks? The Economist tried mightily to avoid giving personal credit to Trump in its analysis of decisions by the UK and Canada to exclude the regime-linked firm from its 5G projects. Instead, they cast it instead as “America’s war on Huawei” while noting that the final battle will take place in Berlin. That didn’t fool Donald Trump, who retweeted it out to his followers: The Economist’s unsigned analysis of the Huawei fight is sound enough, but for some reason they barely mention Trump at all,...
  • China has ‘zero chance’ of acquiring ‘vulnerable’ Europe tech firms as EU urges states to take stakes

Europe has long been an attractive place for Chinese firms looking to invest and acquire — and the recent bout of weakness in stocks, particularly in key tech firms, could further pique their interest. According to one analyst, some of Europe’s key tech firms are “vulnerable” given the market slump, but a top politician in the European Union has urged countries to take a stake in those companies to stop the Chinese takeovers. The outbreak of the coronavirus in China, which has spread across the world, has led to a slump in share prices around the world. Some European tech...

PARIS -- If the UK allows Chinese multinational Huawei to participate in building a new-generation cellular communications network, the CIA is going to take its ball and go home. That's the message Mick Mulvaney, U.S. President Donald Trump's acting chief of staff, delivered in a speech at the Oxford Union last week just before his meeting with British officials. Mulvaney and Trump are concerned that your selfies and your mom's Facebook rants about the neighbor could be laughed at by some military intelligence officer in Beijing via secret backdoors installed in Huawei equipment. Those who don't know any better say...

I just updated my $500-but-now-worthless Nokia 950XL phone. I want to factory reset it to use it for something else. Will I need to update it again? Or can I switch users securely so my main user account won't be compromised? I plan to only use it to access my social media accounts through EDGE. I'm using a Motorola z4 now. I'm not happy to be using Android, but iPhones are horribly expensive. Thank you in advance for your help.

Now, a story in the Sunday Telegraph is just the latest to pose serious questions. The newspaper reports that China has been "rigging" 5G equipment testing to discredit Huawei's rivals, including Nokia and Ericsson. According to government and industry sources, "Beijing is feeding secret details of security vulnerabilities" to the testers to tip the balance in Huawei's favor. The testing encompasses "hacking techniques used to check for weak spots... vulnerabilities discovered by China’s secret state hackers have been passed to the 5G testers to ensure Nokia and Ericsson’s equipment is found to be insecure." Huawei's security issues have always been...

Huawei, the Chinese telecoms giant, has hit the headlines over the arrest of the founder's daughter in Canada for extradition to the United States. But the firm, which manufactures a range of technology, from network equipment to mobile phones, is on the agenda for other reasons, too. Several governments around the world have blocked telecoms companies from using Huawei gear in next-generation 5G mobile networks, citing security concerns. So far the UK has held back from any formal ban. So why is the company proving so controversial? What is 5G? Fifth-generation mobile broadband is coming over the next year or...

The long-term vision is that 5G will lead to the invention of thousands of new products, technologies and services, increase productivity and allow for new industries to emerge. A global 5G network would unify mobile communication and connect individuals or devices to everything through the Internet of Things (IoT). 5G technology can connect vehicles, ships, buildings, meters, machines and other items with electronics, software, sensors and the Cloud, while embedded 5G technology would allow machines to exchange information and integrate computer-based systems in the physical world. In recent years 3G and 4G patent owners have controlled the way in which...

Nokia, once the undisputed king of the mobile phone industry, is to cut one thousand and thirty-two jobs in Finland, in a cost cutting exercise after its acquisition of Alcatel Lucent – the telecommunications network equipment maker, according to a statement issued on Friday. Finland’s largest company has in fact shed thousands of jobs in the European country over the past few years, as it’s once mighty phone business was overtaken and outshone by companies who capitalised on consumer demand for smartphones, leaving Nokia scrambling to catch up. Nokia started the cost-cutting program in April and is aiming to save...

It may not be politically expedient to admit, but Iran is engaged in a live, "hot" war with the United States and its NATO allies -- even as we continue to do business with it. US officials have recently detailed Iran's latest hostile military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, including the training and arming of insurgent groups directly responsible for the death of many Americans on the battlefield.

Carly Fiorina may come from the executive suite, but that hasn’t stopped other executives from slamming her record. The latest critique comes from Steven Rattner, a former Wall Street banker and private equity executive. Rattner, in an opinion piece in the New York Times on Saturday, called Fiorina’s time as the CEO of HP “short and disastrous.” Rattner said HP’s acquisition of Compaq, pushed through by Fiorina, caused an amount of divisiveness at the company that Rattner says he never saw in his 33-year career on Wall Street. He said that while Fiorina did serve during a tough period for...

That Carly Fiorina was a one-woman wrecking crew during her tenure as CEO of Hewlett-Packard was never in doubt. But what follows is a tale that is now being picked up and distributed as the Republican Party seeks a nominee who combines business savvy and executive know-how. Sadly, the former executive who most closely fits this particular bill also has exhibited the kind of corporate arrogance and blind certitude that came close to sinking what had been considered among the world’s best technology companies: Hewlett-Packard. At HP beginning in the mid-1990s, Fiorina was responsible for the ill-fated merger with Compaq,...
