Homeschooling families in Connecticut are in the process of forming a parental rights coalition, as they reject the use of the Newtown shootings over two years ago as a vehicle to undermine the rights of parents to choose the venue for educating their children.

The 16 members of Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy’s Sandy Hook Advisory Commission have completed their report on the December, 2012 murder of 26 children and adults at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. And as might be expected from a hand-picked group of “healthcare professionals, public safety professionals and academics” their recommendations—offered in a 250 page anti-gun rights treatise—will have little to no effect preventing the next lunatic killing at will in one of Connecticut’s widely publicized Gun Free Zones. “We support the concept of firearm registration,” writes the editorial board of the CT Post, “though that would not...

More than two years after Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 schoolchildren and six faculty members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., as well as killing his mother and himself, a state commission released a draft report of a wide-ranging set of recommendations on Thursday with the goal of preventing such killings.

Despite what some people think, hero is not a synonym for competent government-hired killer. If Clint Eastwood's record-breaking movie, American Sniper, launches a frank public conversation about war and heroism, the great director will have performed a badly needed service for the country and the world. This is neither a movie review nor a review of the late Chris Kyle's autobiographical book on which the movie is based. My interest is in the popular evaluation of Kyle, America's most prolific sniper, a title he earned through four tours in Iraq. Let's recall some facts, which perhaps Eastwood thought were too obvious...

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gun maker Remington has moved a lawsuit by families of those shot in the Sandy Hook school massacre from state to federal court, where at least one expert says it has less chance of succeeding. Nine families sued Remington and others in Bridgeport Superior Court in December arguing the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle used in the shooting should not have been sold for civilian use because of its overwhelming firepower. A 10th family joined the lawsuit adding a wrongful death claim....

(VIDEO-AT-LINK) Peg Brokaw, 95, had missed the early Saturday morning Mass at St. Rose of Lima, on Church Hill Road in Newtown, but said she would go inside and say a prayer, anyway. She has lived in this town a long time, and tells you her son is a retired policeman here, one who still directs traffic in front of the church occasionally. And because this was another December in Newtown, two years now since 20 children and six adults were shot dead inside Sandy Hook Elementary, because Peg Brokaw stood outside what became the church of small coffins in...

A law firm representing the families of nine of the 26 people killed and a teacher injured at the Sandy Hook Elementary School says it has filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, distributor and seller of the rifle used in the shooting. The negligence and wrongful death lawsuit asserts that the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle should not have been made publicly available because it is a military weapon unsuited for civilian use.

Former late night host Jay Leno was scheduled to do an appearance at an annual event hosted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in Connecticut this January. The Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT) focuses on pretty much what it sounds like… hunters and the gear they use to engage in the sport. Really dangerous sounding, eh? Well, to some it must have been, and the fact that the group is based in Newtown certainly bolstered their courage to complain. A petition posted by the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence accuses Leno of “helping to legitimize a crass commercialism which...

Another underreported fact from Tuesday's election is the extraordinary night Republicans had in winning state legislative seats. The GOP now controls two thirds of state legislative houses – 66 of 99 (Nebraska's legislature is unicameral). They upped the number of states where they control both house and senate to 24 – one more than they had before the election. And according to this article in Vox, they cut the number of Democratic-held legislatures from 14 to 7. Republicans made historic gains in state legislatures in 2010. They held on in many states in 2012, or made up for losses...

The governor of Connecticut is a tool. He ran one of our biggest cities (Stamford) into the ground, and now has managed to run this liberal paradise of a state into the ground as well. Aside from the personal attacks on the GOP candidate that is running against him that come from the so-called media here in Connecticut, all we keep hearing about this election season is "common sense solutions to gun violence." I live in Sandy Hook. On December 14, 2013 a young man who was pretty much insane murdered 26 people in an elementary school a few miles...

Before she was killed in the Newtown school massacre, 6-year-old Catherine Violet Hubbard raised money from returnable bottles and cans to buy bones for dogs at the pound and designed business cards for an imaginary animal shelter, listing herself as "caretaker." Her pretend animal shelter is now on track to become a reality as the state prepares to transfer 34 acres of a former psychiatric facility to a foundation raising money to build an animal sanctuary to honor the life of the little girl who was one of 20 first-graders killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Though liberal Democrats have little appreciation for the spiritual meaning of Christmas, events of December 2012 would bring Joy to the Political World of every avid, gun-hating politician in Washington D.C. For on December 14th, twenty children and six adults responsible for their care were shot to death at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Their killer ended his own life minutes later with a round to the head. Understanding the importance of disarming the American people, gun confiscation advocates like Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein and Barack Obama no doubt wished the death toll had been higher. But...

A demented Sandy Hook “truther” was arrested Friday in Virginia after he stole signs from playgrounds in New Jersey and Connecticut that were dedicated to tiny victims of the Newtown school massacre, police say. Andrew David Truelove, 28, lifted a sign May 6 from a Mystic, Conn., playplace dedicated to 7-year-old Grace McDonnell and also took a sign from the playground made for Chase Kowalski, also 7, in Mantoloking, N.J. He called the parents of both children after the thefts and told them the shooting was a hoax and that their children never existed. Cops in Stonington, Conn., got a...

Parents of children killed in the 2012 Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting joined Democrats Thursday in calling on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to sign a ban on ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. The measure was passed by the New Jersey Assembly Thursday and will now go to Christie for his consideration. It previously passed the state Senate. The Republican governor and potential 2016 presidential candidate signed many firearms bills into law last year. But he issued conditional vetoes of some of the more contentious ones, including a ban on .50-caliber rifles. …

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Some Newtown residents are calling for the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter's home to be torn down and replaced with a park or nature preserve, according to a new community survey. The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation received more than 1,600 responses to the survey it released Monday on town residents' unmet needs in the wake of the December 2012 shootings. The foundation has been deciding how to distribute more than $11 million in donations made in response to the shootings, which left 20 first-graders and six educators dead. While most of the survey responses said money...

of her son Adam's 26 victims who hope to sue her estateThe estate of the mother of Newtown school shooter Adam Lanza is worth roughly $64,000, according to a Connecticut attorney who inventoried her finances, which is a devastating blow for victims of the massacre who are seeking damages over the shooting that left 27 people dead and a small town in shock. Nancy Lanza, the mother of the disturbed shooter who bought him multiple firearms and taught him to shoot when he was just a small child, had five bank accounts worth a total of $60,000, according to an...

Wolfgang Halbig does not believe anyone was killed at Sandy Hook. He lists one anomaly after another. No helicopters. No wounded. No lawsuits by parents. Names of "dead" kept secret. FBI report classified.

The president should be talking about guns (and gun control) a lot more. This goes way beyond horrific school shootings. President Obama opened his remarks at McGavock High School in Nashville, Tennessee with a brief mourning of the death of a student there on Tuesday, the day of his State of the Union speech. Obama mentioned gun violence once in his address to the nation. Again yesterday, the bulk of his speech was about education policy, not gun control. The fact that McGovock was itself the site of a gun fatality only gave a glancing emphasis on the firearm policies...

A federal judge on Thursday upheld Connecticut's tough gun control law that was passed in the wake of the deadly 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The stringent law is constitutional, said the ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Alfred Covello, denying a legal challenge by a group of gun owners.
