For more than a year, an F.B.I. inquiry into allegations that Lawrence G. Nassar, a respected sports doctor, had molested three elite teenage gymnasts followed a plodding pace as it moved back and forth among agents in three cities. The accumulating information included instructional videos of the doctor’s unusual treatment methods, showing his ungloved hands working about the private areas of girls lying facedown on tables. But as the inquiry moved with little evident urgency, a cost was being paid. The New York Times has identified at least 40 girls and women who say that Dr. Nassar molested them between...

Last Sunday's events in the heart of Cairo served as a tragic reminder of what Egyptians already know so well - that their country, despite recent protestations to the contrary, remains stubbornly authoritarian. The Egyptian regime from the early 1950s until this very day has pegged its survival on its uncanny ability to create a stifling culture of fear and paranoia. And so it was on Sunday. The government of President Hosni Mubarak, in the face of a small but unprecedented Muslim Brotherhood protest calling for constitutional reforms, brought in thousands of troops and blocked off all the major thoroughfares...

If the Oklahoma City bombers refused to participate in a U.S. election, would the final results be considered “illegitimate?” What if the Nation of Islam, the Black Panthers, the Communist Party USA, or the Southern Indiana Regional Militia refused to vote in American elections? Would it matter and, really, who gives a damn? The Left-Wing, e.g. the New York Times, has been trying to hold the Iraqi elections to this type of ridiculous standard regarding Sunni participation. Granted: Sunnis make up 32-37% of Iraq’s population. While their representation is important, the majority of terrorist attacks aimed at destabilizing Iraq have...
