The 18-year-old accused of kidnapping a Nashville high school student and beating him for refusing to join a gang had previously been deported according to the Department of Justice. U.S. Attorney Don Cochran for the Middle District of Tennessee reports Franklin Pineda-Caceres will face federal charges for entering the country illegally after being deported in 2018. According to the charging documents, Pineda-Caceres was arrested in Nashville in October 2017 on drug charges. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official said that six suspects involved in the slaying of a Maryland man are illegal immigrants and MS-13 members.

Six of the seven people charged Tuesday in an July killing in Towson had immigration detainers, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman confirmed. Of the six with detainers, five are Salvadoran and one is Mexican. All of them are in the country illegally, ICE spokeswoman Kate Pote said in an email. All six are identified in ICE gang databases as members of MS-13.
