Missouri state Sen. Bill Stouffer is seeking the 2010 Republican nomination to oppose veteran Democratic Rep. Ike Skelton. Stouffer recently filed a statement of candidacy and a statement of organization to organize a campaign in Missouri's 4th, a Republican-leaning district that includes all or part of 25 counties in central and western Missouri. "Enough is enough," Stouffer told CQ Politics Friday. "We've lost sight of what the role of the federal government is. We forget that the federal government was created by the states to serve the states, not to dictate to the states, and I'm concerned with the deficits...

Greene County prosecutor Darrell Moore says he is running for a southwest Missouri congressional seat. Moore joins an already crowded field of Republicans seeking to replace Rep. Roy Blunt, who is running for Senate in 2010. While announcing his candidacy Thursday, Moore said he would make balancing the federal budget his top priority. He also stressed health care reform, stabilizing Social Security and bolstering national security. Moore, of Springfield, has served as Greene County prosecutor since 1999. Other Republicans who already have declared their candidacy are state Sen. Jack Goodman of Mount Vernon, Springfield auctioneer Billy Long and Ozarks Technical...

Dear XXXX: (I took his name out, because I didn't ask if I could post his name...Todd won't mind — he's a good guy) “Thank you for your correspondence regarding H.R.1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. It was good to hear from you and I appreciate the opportunity to respond. As you may know, this legislation represents the largest spending increase ever foisted on the American people by Congress. Despite initial talk of a measured, infrastructure focused stimulus package, the Democrat majority has created a debt spending bill estimated to cost at least $825 billion. Worse yet,...

Outgoing Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman, who lost a bruising Republican primary for governor to Kenny Hulshof, said this afternoon she will take a look at running for the seat vacated by Sen. Kit Bond in 2010. Bond announced in the Missouri House Chambers this morning that he will not run for re-election. Bond and Steelman have been at odds lately. Bond endorsed Hulshof in the primary, and Steelman wrote a letter to the Department of Justice to inform investigators of a conversation she had with Bond concerning the ousting of U.S. attorney Todd Graves. Steelman today praised Bond for his...

Many of you have commented on how does one merit a Christmas card from the White House. Some of you have commened upon how do you get involved in the campaign. A few of FR readers have commented upon you lack of enthusiasm for the candidates we have. Let me report my experience after eight and a half hours in the hot Missouri sun from one of the greatest outpourings of support for the GOP I have witnessed in approximately 50 years of being involved in politics. I know many who might comment that I was a slacker for the...

Obama goes for the rural Missouri vote... One dilly bar at a time. The Missouri Republican Party started questioning the validity of Obama's new field offices on Friday after it was reported one in Sikeston appears to be a Dairy Queen -News-Leader. And, the Obama Campaign staffers are not actually in theri rural Nixa, Missouri offices. In fact, they haven't signed the lease yet. But, they do set up a table and chairs in the parking lot certain hours of the day. The News-Leader reported: Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's winning strategy in Missouri rests on getting votes in rural...

With Thursday's California Supreme Court ruling regarding same sex marriage, we can expect a resurrection of one of the most shopworn political epiteths: San Francisco values. GOP Rep. Sam Graves unveiled an ad this week using the money phrase to disparage his Democratic challenger Kay Barnes, aka the "Big City Mayor" (formerly that is, of Kansas City.) Barnes' sin: She attended a fundraiser thrown by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and she shares Pelosi's "San Francisco Values." You know what that means. Or at least what it is supposed to mean. Nevertheless, you've GOT to see Graves' commercial only to check...

Somebody in the Huckabee camp made the mistake of insulting the leader of the conservative movement in the U.S., Rush Limbaugh. Rush responded on Friday's show and basically ripped the Huckabee camp a well-deserved new one. Whoever made the original comments clearly has not been paying attention. Some are questioning whether the Huckabee campaign can survive the shellacking it got on Friday's program. Huckabee is trying to stop the bleeding: SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The best-talking Republican politician in America has a message for the best-talking conservative voice in the country: Let's talk to one another. Missouri’s 9th Congressional District was in Democratic hands for 76 years until a dynamic Republican prosecutor named Kenny Hulshof won the seat in 1996. If Hulshof resigns to take the helm at the University of Missouri, Democrats would suddenly have a chance to win back the region long known as “Little Dixie.” But the district has become even more conservative since the mid-1990s as it has expanded south of Interstate 70 to include areas like Hermann and Washington — areas represented by Republicans in the state Legislature. “I think it would be an uphill challenge for Democrats,” said David Webber,...

Went to Sen Talent's victory party at Frontenac Hilton in 2002... Wondering where the event is this year for Kit Bond (& other GOPers) in St Louis. Didn't donate to Bond as he's a lock (compared to Talent in '02) and resources were needed elsewhere. Anyone know where party is going to be? You all aren't going go believe this, but here goes anyway. Everyone on my street has a W sign in their yard except one family. At a block party last night the conversation turned to politics and she told us that her Kerry sign got stolen and that it made her mad because she had to BUY IT FOR $3. All of us about fell out of our chairs laughing.

I just found out I will be off work on Election Day and thus volunteered over the phone to the local GOP HQ to drive people to the polls or I told them I could be a poll watcher, though I don't even know what that entails. They told me to come to the office in person about this - are there any specific questions I should ask or things to watch out for? I am just trying to do the best, most useful job I can as a volunteer on this day.

Election Day this year will set the course for job policy, health care reforms and school spending -- not to mention taxes. And that's not just in the run for president. Eleven states will pick governors next month, and the contests allow domestic issues to get some attention as money pours into the campaigns and the races heat up. Experts see particularly hot contests in Indiana, Missouri, Montana and Washington state. Democrats are defending six seats and Republicans five. Two incumbents have already lost -- bounced by their own parties during primaries. Three chose not to run -- after bruising...

The Missouri 3rd Congressional District seat has been held by Richard Gephardt since I was in High School ~25 years ago. Now we have D-Russ Carnahan, son of the late Missouri Governor, and former US Senator, Mel and Jean Carnahan, a sitting state representative, running gainst R-Bill Federer. Bill has run against Gephardt before and lost. Has the Republican party given up on this seat? I see nothing more than the usual campaign signs and a few bumper stickers in the area. The campaign is sending out eMails at the rate of about 1 every 2 weeks by my estimation,...

Last night, I was told that a report was recently published by some DC think-tank. This report ranked members of congress in order of taxpayer-friendliness, i.e. it examined their votes on tax-related bills and determined where any particular member of congress came in on higher or lower taxes for their constituents. The same person who told me about the report told me that a whopping 75% of house and senate members from my state were in the top 20 LEAST friendly to taxpayers in their voting records. Journalists, political pundits and other Hysteric Left activists are desperately trying to spin some cosmic significance out of Sunday's Spanish elections. The "conventional wisdom" is that the Spanish Election results are some sort of significant defeat for President Bush and the War on Terror. As usual the "News Media's" thinking is neither conventional nor wise. What all the various activists miss is the reality of American Exceptionalism. As much as the International Political Left hates, and try's to deny, the reality is the USA operates on a completely different political level then the rest of the world. On Sunday, the...

The reason for my apology was that throughout this primary season we have been hearing about the record turnout of voters participating in Democrat caucuses and primaries. I bought the lie. The truth is that, except for Iowa and New Hampshire, there has not been any sort of record turnout for the Democrats. Even in New Hampshire the vote was far less than what the Republicans had when they last had a contested primary in 2000. The Democrats this year had 219,787 votes in their primary. The GOP in 2000 had 239,523 votes. That 20,000 difference is major in a...

HANNIBAL, Mo. - In a polite but tension-filled encounter, Gov. Bob Holden and primary challenger Claire McCaskill shared a stage Saturday before Democrats for the first time since both filed for an August showdown in the governor's race. Holden showed off the influence of incumbency, introducing New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson as keynote speaker for a party banquet and welcoming the endorsement of his fellow Democratic governor. McCaskill, the state auditor, was introduced long after Richardson's exit and - standing at the microphone next to the seated Holden - acknowledged at the outset: "I know this is a little tense."...

http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/3/6/121052.shtml Well isn't this intresting. The "objective news media" supposed 9-11 surviors protesting Bush's ads are actually anti-war stooges financed by John Kerry's wife. Please take a moment and vist the New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, CBS, NBC and ABC etc to email the Omsbudsman, the Publisher, the News Editor and demand to know why they allowed clearly partisan advocates of Kerry's Presidential Campaign were presented on their "News" programs with no reference to their ties to the Kerry camp. We absolutely must demand the "News Media" be held accountable for their free advertising for the Kerry camp.

I read in OpinionJournal on Wednesday (1/28) that Bush beat HRC in New Hampshire primary among write-in votes... He also beat other kook lefties in the primaries. I think Freepers in states with Open primaries should make a concerted effort to write in W. on the Dem ballots to make this something more substantial than a few hundred votes... I would like to see Bush show up @ 1% or higher in the Dem primary. Instead of voting in a Dem primary to pull shenanigans and boost Kookcinich or Sharpton, we could make a positive message.

Campaign finance records show that Matt Blunt, the son of House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), received significant contributions from out-of-state sources during his successful 2000 race for Missouri secretary of state. Many of the contributors seemingly lacked a direct interest in the down-ballot state race but had significant interests pending before Matt Blunt's father. At the time that the contributions to his son's campaign occurred, Roy Blunt was a rising GOP star and an aggressive fundraiser. After the elevation of J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) to Speaker in 1999, Blunt was named chief deputy whip. He also won a seat...

ELECTION 2000 (and what needs to be made up for 04) Right now, I’m assuming the dem nominee is Kerry, Graham, Dean, Edwards, or Gephardt. I expect Lieberman to lose badly in the primary since he’s too ‘conservative’. Sharpton, Mosely-Braun, and Dennis the Menace are jokes. One never won a race. One even lost in Illinois. One wrecked Cleveland. Wesley Clark is an interesting candidate, and could make things interesting. I don’t care what any poll says right now, things will tighten up by 04. It ALWAYS does. We also got to play ball like we are trailing. States Bush...

ST. LOUIS - The son of the late Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan and former U.S. Sen. Jean Carnahan launched a bid Wednesday to fill the congressional seat being vacated by presidential hopeful Dick Gephardt. State Rep. Russ Carnahan, speaking before supporters in a St. Louis park, called the campaign "an opportunity whose time has come." His mother sat in the crowd, smiling. "I think he can make a great contribution," she said. "He hasn't asked me for advice yet." Gephardt, the former House minority leader, is not seeking re-election in 2004 as he bids for the White House. The 3rd...

The first time Claire McCaskill thought about running for governor might have been in eighth grade. Her English teacher told her she had a gift -- not so much for conjugating verbs -- but for speaking and "explaining herself." "It wouldn't surprise me if you were the first woman governor," McCaskill said she was told. Thirty-five years later, after a long, methodical climb that has taken her from law school to the General Assembly, a seat on the Jackson County Legislature, election as the county's first woman prosecutor and now her second term as state auditor, Claire Conner McCaskill must...

WASHINGTON - Republican Sen. Kit Bond has not officially declared himself a candidate for re-election in 2004, but he raised $876,756 this year toward a fourth term, new reports show. The fund-raising pushed Bond's cash-on-hand balance to $1.39 million as of March 31, according to Federal Election Commission reports released Monday. The reports are due Tuesday and cover the first three months of this year. No Democrat has indicated an interest in challenging Bond, who defeated Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon in 1998, 53 percent to 44 percent. But the reports show Bond attracted support from several prominent Democrats in...

Tuesday was a massacre for the democrats. They had no message and the polling was horrible. I have always been skeptical about polls and it appears that most of the pre-election polls were off. So why did the republicans do so well? George Bush deserves much of the credit, but let's not forget about the great candidates we had. 90% od our candidates were experienced and did well in their debates. The democrats did have a message. It was "no" to whatever being asked. The get nothing done senate was another reason. No bills and no judges were coming out...

Latest poll shows undecided voters may decide Missouri Senate race By STEVE KRASKE The Kansas City Star A new poll shows Republican Jim Talent leading Democrat Jean Carnahan 46-41 percent in Missouri's red-hot U.S. Senate race, although a high number of undecided voters suggests either candidate could win.
