A newly formed group, the Students for Fair Representation, has filed suit challenging racial and other affirmative action preferences at Harvard and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The lawsuits are brought by the same law firm that represented Fisher in Fisher v. Texas, in which the Supreme Court ruled that affirmative action plans were subject to strict scrutiny in applying the Equal Protection Clause: The parties asked the Court to review whether the judgment below was consistent with “this Court’s decisions interpreting the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, including Grutter v. Bollinger, 539 U. S....

A Trump Conservative/Populist "Reagan Democrat" Candidacy Could Win In The Electoral College Here is an analysis of the Electoral College victory possibilities for Donald Trump as the Republican nominee. With a truly conservative/populist candidate such as Trump, there appears the ability to add to core base of Electoral College support which the Romney election of 2012 represents (Map 2). Should the current economic, military (possible terrorist) and political situation continue as it is now President Obama, as did President Carter in 1980, will own the prevailing climate in November 2016 as will "Obama's third term" Clinton. The Republican base will be...

hen did unions cross the line from being workers who want to collectively negotiate with their employers to becoming gangs that threaten non-members? Or has it always been that way? In Michigan, which has moved on from being a hard union state to one where workers have a choice about joining, a United Auto Workers chapter has put out a hit list of nonmembers it believes deserve intimidation. Local 412, based in Warren, Mich., suggests that its members refuse to "share any tools, knowledge or support" with "any of these employees who choose not to pay their fair share."

“In 2012, she represented the State Department’s U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) in the Jameed Festival in Jordan…†She thinks Jews are animals, but who cares? Remember: “Islamophobiaâ€! Lina Allan, a Palestinian-Jordanian activist who lives in Michigan, published a video in which she attempted to rebut the position of people who prohibit the stabbing of Jews by Palestinians. Allan called on these people to not talk about something they don’t understand and to “go back to watching Turkish soap operas†instead. She added that objecting to the stabbing of Jews is like defending animal rights “at best.†In 2011, Allan...

Rana Elmir, an American Muslim and deputy director of the ACLU of Michigan, says that she “emphatically†refuses to condemn jihadist terrorists “just because I’m Muslim.†In her provocative article in Monday’s Washington Post, Elmir claims that she is often asked to condemn Islamic terrorism, to which she replies: “I emphatically refuse.†She then goes on to compare the systematic slaughters wrought under the name of Islamic terrorism with “the terror advanced by mostly white men at the alarming rate of one mass killing every two weeks in this country.†Elmir draws a parallel between the Islamic State and “Dylann...

The deputy director of the ACLU of Michigan said in an op-ed Monday that she refuses to condemn radical Islamic terrorism in order to prove her allegiance to the United States. Rana Elmir wrote that she's "consistently and aggressively asked" to condemn Islamic terrorism, and is tired of having her religious views linked to atrocities like the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and in Paris and San Bernardino this year. "I emphatically refuse," she wrote in an opinion piece in The Washington Post. The op-ed was titled: "Stop asking me to condemn terrorists just because I'm Muslim."

see link Conan, semi-retired ... tells me that as far as he knows the term is meant to connote genitalia. And he doesn’t think his usage makes Trump’s okay.

**SNIP** But then again, the truth is that, especially when dealing with a "brazen genius" like Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump, Mrs. Clinton could use a pantsuit leg up. That's why being a perpetually-offended woman might be a powerful weapon in 2016. In fact, a shrewd calculation may be the reason Hillary conveniently forgot to mention that her husband, based solely on his reputation as an adulterous fornicator, earned a starring role in an ISIS propaganda/recruitment video. Instead, the woman who habitually gets her video stories confused insisted at the last Democratic debate that anti-Muslim videos starring Donald Trump were...

Turned Monica Lewinsky 'Into A Humidor' [VIDEO] Political commentator Kurt Schlichter argued that with Hillary Clinton's enabling, Bill Clinton was able to turn "the Oval Office into a frat house and his intern into a humidor." Tuesday on CNN Newsroom hosted by CNN anchor Don Lemon, guests Terra Grant and Schlicher were discussing Donald Trump's comment that Barack Obama "schlonged" Hillary Clinton in 2008. When Schlichter kept bringing up Bill past sexual history, Lemon ended the interview early. Lemon asked Schlichter if it was appropriate for Trump to suggest Obama "schlonged" Hillary and Schlichter explained, "Don, it's going to take...

Just how much did Ben Zimmer chuckle while writing this "schlong" analysis for Politico? Well, no matter how much he was laughing, he did manage to write in a serious tone on the subject...which made it come off even funnier than was probably intended. At first Zimmer slams Donald Trump for his use of the term "schlonged" but ends up exonerating him when other examples of the slang word being used as a synonym for "defeat" were found.

Here's what Trump said. "Everything that's been involved in Hillary has been losses," Trump averred. "Even her race to Obama, she was going to beat Obama. I don't know who'd be worse. I don't know. How does it get worse? She was favored to win and she got schlonged." Schlong, of course, is Yiddish for penis. So she got reamed. Or screwed. Or any other plethora of English-language equivalents. But no, Trump's vulgarity is suddenly the talk of the town. Not Hillary's lies about Trump appearing ISIS promotional videos. The fact that Hillary Clinton must face down that awful sexist...

During the little-watched pre-Christmas Democratic debate, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accused Donald Trump of being the Islamic State group's chief recruiter. Relying on her penchant for blaming videos for Islamic evil, she stated that the Islamic State is "showing videos of Donald Trump insulting Islam and Muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists." Well, no. The Islamic State's videos -- the ones that actually exist, not the ones Clinton makes up in her fevered imagination during debate pee breaks -- show that the group uses three main themes in its recruitment. First, it talks about Islamic prophecy....

In Saturday night's 3rd Democratic debate, Hillary Clinton sought to emphasize her line that Donald Trump has become "ISIS's best recruiter" by suggesting that the extremist group was using Trump in their recruiting videos, a claim which has now been widely discredited by fact-checkers and ISIS experts, and which prompted Trump to call Clinton a liar on the Sunday morning talk-show circuit. As a result, Sunday morning also saw Clinton campaign manager John Podesta and spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri work to walk Clinton's statement back. Appearing on ABC's This Week, Palmieri said that Clinton "didn't have a particular video in mind"

Donald Trump says he wants Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to apologize for claiming that he was "becoming ISIS's best recruiter." "I will demand an apology from Hillary. She should apologize," he told TODAY's Matt Lauer on Monday. "She lies about emails, she lies about Whitewater, she lies about everything. She will be a disaster about everything as president of the United States." Over the weekend, Trump fired back at his Democratic rival for claiming that Trump was "becoming ISIS's best recruiter," saying Islamic extremists were using Trump's comments about Muslims and Islam as a recruiting tool.

Hillary Clinton's campaign acknowledged the current hubbub around Trump's use of the word "schlonged" to describe her defeat to Barack Obama in the 2008 election, by calling on "everyone who understands the humiliation this degrading language inflicts on all women" to respond to Trump, via tweet by campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Palmieri.

In a long campaign that's far from over, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's comment in Grand Rapids, Mich., that Hillary Clinton - former first lady, former U.S. senator, former secretary of state, woman = "got schlonged" in her 2008 primary run might be considered just another insult from a tycoon-turned-politician eager for the spotlight. Trump, after all, has been down in the dirt slinging mud before, calling Rosie O'Donnell a "fat pig" and a "slob" and making comments that certainly seemed critical of Megyn Kelly's menstrual cycle. But there was something different about "schlonged." Sure, it was sexist - especially...

DEARBORN -- As small business owners, many Arab Americans carry guns for protection. However, recent mass shootings across the country have reignited the gun control debate. Over the past few years, gun violence has claimed many lives in the community. Several suicides, homicides and a murder-suicide were all carried out by guns. It is not uncommon to see local community members with visible guns at their waists. But while a Lebanese saying claims "guns are the decoration of men", critics say too many lives have been lost to guns in our community and around the country.
