President Obama has refused so far to survey the Louisiana flood disaster, but he did let state and local officials know that he’s watching to make sure they don’t engage in racial discrimination. In a 16-page guidance issued Tuesday, the Obama administration, led by the Justice Department, warned Louisiana recipients of federal disaster assistance against engaging in “unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin (including limited English proficiency).” The guidance’s frameworks “highlight the importance of complying with nondiscrimination requirements of civil rights statutes, addressing the needs of the whole community, and ensuring equal opportunity to access...

Donald Trump landed Friday in flood-ravaged Louisiana Friday, where he consoled homeowners and toured devastated communities, telling one homeowner he is "going to rebuild." The Republican presidential nominee, with running mate Mike Pence at his side, stopped at the home of Jimmy and Olive Gordan in Denham Springs, where the couple was still sweeping out floodwaters from their home. A ruined couch, chair and bedroom furniture were piled on their lawn, and Jimmy Gordan told Trump he spent his 79th birthday on the roof of his house. "I just don't know what we'll do," the man told Trump. "You're going...

Trump Plays the Role of President in Louisiana GOP nominee tours disaster area while Obama, Clinton won't be parted from politics and rest In a brilliant maneuver perfectly timed to complement his campaign revamp, Republican nominee Donald Trump today landed in Louisiana to witness first-hand the devastation wrought by flooding not seen there since Hurricane Katrina pummeled the Gulf Coast in 2005. Trump’s arrival on the scene helps him on a number of levels. Most importantly, it provides a dramatic contrast to Hillary Clinton and President Obama, both of whom have neglected to visit a region where more than a...

Hours after the Obama administration announced the president would not head to Louisiana to tour the devastation left behind by massive flooding, Donald Trump's campaign said late Thursday the GOP nominee will spend the following day visiting and helping the tens of thousands of victims. Fox News political correspondent Carl Cameron confirmed Thursday from a Trump rally in Charlotte, N.C., that the billionaire businessman will head to the Pelican State Friday. "I would like to take a moment to talk about the heart break and devastation in Louisiana, a state that is very, very special to me. We are one...

A couple of days ago, a Baton Rouge rapper by the name of “Jiggy Down Tommysocks” (real name- no joke) posted a video on Facebook asking the question, ‘Where are the ‘Black Lives Matter’ or the ‘Black Panther’ boats to help folks in trouble in Louisiana? His point was that we had an influx of people in Baton Rouge to protest, but now that family here need help, these activists have been absent. And while I rarely get my own political or social viewpoints from hip hop artists, I think Mr. Tommysocks is on to something. In fact, I feel...

President Obama is stirring resentment over his refusal to interrupt his Martha’s Vineyard vacation to survey the Louisiana flood — the worst U.S. natural disaster since 2012 — while drawing comparisons to President George W. Bush’s hotly criticized response to Hurricane Katrina in the same state. Mr. Obama’s lack of urgency is drawing unflattering parallels to the federal response in 2005, when Mr. Bush was branded as uncaring and even racist for not touching down during a flyover two days after Hurricane Katrina Not only has Mr. Obama refused to cut short his golfing vacation, but he also has issued...

Louisiana was devastated by record-level flooding last week, when an astonishing 630 inches of rain fell in a 72-hour-period, hitting both southern Louisiana and parts of Mississippi. The situation has left the community devastated. Scott McKay at The American Spectator describes: As of this writing, some 20 of the state’s 64 parishes are now under a disaster declaration, with another handful likely to follow as the state’s rivers swell beyond their banks and spill into streets and homes. More — well more — than 40,000 homes have been destroyed, and well north of 40,000 people have evacuated. The sheriff in Livingston...

Between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, the broadcast networks of NBC, ABC, and CBS presented several reports on the “massive” and “historic” flooding devastating Louisiana, even comparing storm damage to that suffered during Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane Katrina. However, the one thing missing from the coverage was a single mention of the President of the United States, Barack Obama. On Wednesday’s NBC Nightly News, anchor Lester Holt proclaimed: “Now to the flooding disaster still impacting tens of thousands of people in the south. That massive tropical system that devastated Louisiana is now bringing new flash flood watches to Texas. This...

Hey all, I hope you don't mind if I start this, and I do hope we get some useful information out of it. It would be great if Freepers can share some GOOD relief orgs that are doing great work NOW, for people and animals. We are donating the bulk of our tithing fund to these Flood Relief efforts. Right now the misery and worry our fellow Americans are sitting in is heartbreaking. I've found the NOLA Junior League is doing a stellar job of handing out diapers, necessities and gift cards in $20 increments. I know Samaritan's Purse will...

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — President Barack Obama is unlikely to break from a New England vacation to survey flood damage in Louisiana, despite calls for him to visit and meet with responders and victims. The White House insists Obama is not indifferent to the suffering of thousands who were washed out of their homes in the Baton Rouge and Lafayette areas of the state. At least 13 people have died as a result of the flooding, and at one point 11,000 were in shelters. That number has dropped as water levels have receded.

Louisiana has been hit by devastating flooding, and thousands of people have lost everything. Eleven people have died.President Obama is currently vacationing on Martha's Vineyard, and aside from signing a disaster declaration five days ago, has otherwise not commented on the situation. (He did, however, have time to go to a Hillary Clinton fundraiser.)Compare this to pop star Taylor Swift. Swift, who began The 1989 World Tour in Louisiana last year, said that she appreciated her fans in Louisiana and was heartbroken by the devastation in the state. She then pledged to donate $1 million in relief money and encouraged...
