Recently I watched a show on the Discovery channel – called “Whale Wars”. The show documents the fight of the Sea Sheppard’s aboard the S.S. Steve Irwin (Glorious) against the Chinese Whale Hunters. The Sea Sheppard’s will stop at nothing to stop the senseless killing of the whales. Some of the heroic actions include ramming the S.S. Steve Irwin into the side of the Chinese vessels, throwing chemicals onto the deck, helicopter fly-bys, etc… As I watched the show that depicted the Sea Sheppard’s as heroes for fighting against the whale murdering Chinese – I wondered why the individuals that...

Shift in House Leadership Key to Victories The state's oldest and largest pro-life organization closed the legislative session with an impressive win on a long sought priority: removal of preferential treatment for Planned Parenthood, the state's largest promoter and provider of abortion services. By strong bi-partisan majorities of 25-7 in the state senate and 69-22 in the state House, legislators took action to remove language first placed into law during the early 1970's which specifically named abortion provider Planned Parenthood in coordinating family planning services in the state. In addition to removing the clause, legislators enacted language which mandates the...

Do the names Norma McCorvey or Sarah Weddington mean anything to you? I confess I have known who Norma McCorvey is for several years, but Sarah Weddington was unknown to me. That is no longer true. If you do not know these women and abortion is an important issue for you, you should get acquainted. Last year Planned Parenthood of Montana hosted Sarah Weddington as the keynote speaker at their 5th annual fundraiser. They could have chosen no one more representative of its pro-abortion philosophy than she. Weddington is not just a hero to pro-abortionists she is the hero. It...

The Archdiocese of Boston is on track to provide abortion “services” and American Life League is rolling out an aggressive campaign to expose the scandal. Celticare, the joint venture of archdiocesan Caritas Christi Health Care network and Centene Corp., will join Massachusetts’ subsidized health program effective July 1. Celticare lists abortion, family planning and “reproductive services” on their web site. Centene and Caritas Christi both said they would ensure access to all services required by the Massachusetts Connector Authority, including “confidential family planning services.” “We will not allow this scandal to go unnoticed,” said Judie Brown, president of American Life...

Are pro-life advocates complicit in the murder of George Tiller? Ellen Goodman wants you to believe so. Her column in the Billings Gazette insinuates that though the suspected killer physically acted alone, his actions are the result of a pro-life community that, instead of adamantly (or sincerely) denouncing those with extreme anti-abortion passions, inflames those passions by “casually refer[ring] to abortion as murder”, calling Obama the “most pro-abortion president ever” , “ratchet[ing] up the rhetoric on a Supreme Court nominee”, or “cull[ing] doctors from their honored profession by labeling them ‘abortionists’. Would Goodman prefer to call abortion a blessing as...

WASHINGTON, May 13, 2009 – Afghan and U.S. forces killed eight insurgents and repelled a complex suicide attack May 11 by multiple groups on government buildings in Khost, the capital of the eastern Afghanistan province of the same name. During the engagement, the forces foiled an attempt on the provincial governor’s life. Shortly before noon, a suicide bomber dressed as an Afghan security forces member attacked the governor’s compound, while two others wearing suicide vests were killed by Afghan and U.S. forces. An additional suicide vest was found at the scene. Moments later, a group of suicide bombers stormed the...

March/April 2009 The Sickness Unto Health by P.J. O'Rourke A malignant hemorrhoid has a lot to teach about cancer, U.S. health care, and the need to slow down.Last year I wrote an essay about being told I had cancer and the deep metaphysical questions this raised, such as, “Is God a nice guy?” and “Will my bird dog go to heaven, or do I flush the quail of paradise with seraphim, cherubim, and putti?” But after a while diagnosis wears off. It’s time for an intermission in the self-dramatization of “I Have a Life-Threatening Disease.” I wasn’t able to...

Appearing before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was confronted in a way she probably wasn't expecting. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., asked the secretary to account for her comments the previous month, when she accepted the Margaret Sanger Award from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. "I admire Margaret Sanger enormously," Clinton had said in March, "her courage, her tenacity, her vision ... And when I think about what she did all those years ago in Brooklyn, taking on archetypes, taking on attitudes and accusations flowing from all directions, I am really in awe of...

A personel reflection from a Freeper and insignificant blogger straight from the heart. What more appropriate time to visit about abortion than the day that our savior rose from the dead in the confirmation of sacrifice and the affirmation of rebirth and salvation. I, as many have been challenged with the temptation of an easy way out of the earthly obligations that accompany the behaviors that we have freely chosen. I admit my beautiful wife was stronger than I when it came to walking the walk in this respect. When I was still reeling at the prospect of becoming a...

« Kepler’s dust cover has now been jettisoned, meaning the search for extrasolar ‘Earths’ is not long from commencing. The cover stayed in place for so long because the spacecraft’s photometer had to make measurements of electronic noise that will later have to be removed from the science data. Mission engineers will now continue with the calibration process for several weeks using images of actual stars. Our debates over the ‘rare Earth’ hypothesis will be getting firm data in short order because of Kepler. Three years from now, having had time to detect terrestrial-class planets in the habitable zone...

When I took our dog Hershee to the vet today for her yearly checkup and shots, there was a gentleman who brought his old dog in to be put to sleep. As I watched him carry his old dog to the room where the veterinarian would do his job I looked down at Hershee and wondered how I would handle the task of taking her on that one way journey. I realized then how hard it is for some of us to let go of life.

A seriously ill baby, whose parents lost a court battle to keep him alive on a ventilator, has died. The nine-month-old had a rare metabolic disorder and had brain damage and respiratory failure. His parents had appealed against a ruling at London's High Court that it was in the boy's best interests to withdraw "life-sustaining treatment". Baby OT was unable to breathe by himself and died after doctors withdrew his treatment. His parents said they were "deeply distressed" by the decision of the High Court in London and said the life of their "beautiful boy" was worth preserving. The couple...

Pastor jailed for Oakland anti-abortion acts Henry K. Lee, Chronicle Staff Writer Friday, March 20, 2009 A pastor at a Berkeley church was jailed Friday for 30 days after unsuccessfully arguing that an order requiring him to stay 100 yards away from an Oakland abortion clinic violates his right to free speech. Walter Hoye, 52, of Union City was the first person convicted under an Oakland ordinance barring protesters from coming within 8 feet of anyone entering an abortion clinic. In February, Judge Stuart Hing of Alameda County Superior Court sentenced Hoye to three years' probation, 30 days in jail...

Abortion is a tough, tough topic. That's why I've never written a single column, in all my years as a journalist, directly about abortion. Oh, sure, I've touched on it in passing -- quick lamentations about the pathetic legal reasoning of Roe v. Wade and its embarrassing progeny such as the Casey case; reminders that the public strongly supports social-conservative positions on satellite issues such as partial-birth abortion, parental notice laws, and informed consent; utter opposition to making taxpayers finance abortions even if it violates their deepest beliefs -- but I've always avoided the central issue itself. Until now. The...

He garnered the majority of Catholic votes in the 2008 election, but a number of Catholic groups now say President Obama is showing a complete lack of regard for their beliefs. They count his decisions to lift restrictions on abortion and stem cell research among the most offensive. "As far as the Catholic church goes, there's no bigger priority for Catholics than human dignity and human life," said Cathy Ruse, senior fellow at the Family Research Council said. "And the Obama administration has just been an assault on those values again and again in just two months."

Supporters of Kathleen Sebelius’ nomination for director of the Health and Human Services (HHS) department claim she is responsible for reducing abortions in Kansas. This is simply untrue. First of all, as Professor Michael New of the University of Alabama has pointed out, abortion statistics from Kansas are some of the most unreliable in the country. There are fluctuations in the numbers that are partly due to changes in reporting and not the actual incidence of abortion (Michael New, Assistant Professor, University of Alabama, personal correspondence, March 5, 2009). And if the Kansas abortion statistics are taken at face value,...

Loyal to Liberty Once again we are supposed to believe that Michael Steele had a slip of the tongue. This time in an Interview with Gentleman's Quarterly magazine which included the following exchange: "The choice issue cuts two ways. You can choose life, or you can choose abortion," he said. "My mother chose life. So I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other." Interviewer Lisa DePaulo asked: "Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?" Steele replied: "Yeah. I mean, again, I think that's...

I have always been a strong willed person, certain of my convictions, not led by peer pressure or other’s opinions. I’ve known instinctively since childhood that life begins at conception and it’s a fact and opinion held firmly by both sides of our families, mine ( Jewish and Christian) and my husband’s is Scot and protestant. Sex is a choice, and pregnancy can be a result of that choice. Should you not wish that option, prevention is an alternative. But not abortion, this is simply termination of a life and in (Ex.21:22-23) it states… “If men strive, and hurt a...

A newly made synthetic ribosome is an important step in the quest to create artificial life forms. By Emily Singer Researchers at Harvard University have built a functional ribosome--the cell's protein-making machine--from scratch, molecule by molecule. The creation represents a significant step toward making artificial life, and it could ultimately fill a major gap in our understanding of the origins of life. But the scientists who made the ribosome are most interested in its industrial applications. They plan to genetically tinker with the molecular machinery so that it can make proteins more efficiently, as well as proteins that are the...

Isn't it ironic? 150 years ago, B. Hussein Obama would have been defined as "less than human" by the Democrat party. Today, with the stroke of a pen and to the cheers of most of the Democrat party, he chose to define human embryos as LESS than human, worthy of destruction for the pleasure and profit of men who would use them to get money. Anyone else find that sad?

“Oops, it’s showing again.” CNN’s bias, that is. The network recently rejected an advertising spot from the group CatholicVote.org. Using President Obama’s life story to make its point, the ad illustrates the intrinsic value and potentiality encompassed within each human being despite any humble beginnings or tragic misfortunes. The ad reads: “This child's future is a broken home. He will be abandoned by his father. His single mother will struggle to raise him. Despite the hardships he will endure . . . this child . . . will become . . . the first African-American President.” It concludes with the...

George Soros finally gets it February 21, 2009 – 1:56 pm Three weeks ago, the positively schizophrenic Op-Ed page for the WSJ published yet another piece by a big financial brain proposing a “solution” to the financial crisis. While the editorial page itself is so rigidly ideological as to be useless, the op-ed page publishes stuff all over the map. The only common attribute seems to be a big-name byline. Once in a while you’ll get a thoughtful, nuanced and hard-hitting piece by Shelby Steele or Judy Shelton, for instance; occasionally, one of the big names will actually say something...

The 38-year-old woman who ignited a fierce right-to-die debate that convulsed Italy and dragged in the Vatican died Monday just as lawmakers in Parliament rushed to pass a bill designed to keep her alive. Eluana Englaro had been in a vegetative state since she was in a car accident 17 years ago. She died Monday night at the Udine clinic where she had been for the past week, said family attorney Vittorio Angiolini. In addition to the 335 million dollars for more indoctrination into sexual practices, called sex education, and the promotion of condoms...we also have this: What the Mexico City Policy Does With Your Money BY Paul Kengor February 8-14, 2009 Issue As is well known by those who take the time to follow such things, one of the first major actions of President Barack Obama — as he promised — was to sign an executive order officially reversing the Mexico City Policy begun by Ronald Reagan and preserved by George W. The ad that NBC refused to run for the Super Bowl: http://www.catholicvote.com/ In the little I watch of TV, I am more and more concerned with the quality of the commercials. I use the term 'quality' loosely. Many are pornographic. Some of the new ones for "male enhancement" with the lady talking about having more 'fun' are so incredibly immoral. To even watch a sporting event means a person will be subjected to these impure images and words. The commercials for viagra and cialis and all those for 'ED' have the children asking what is that, mom? This is only...

Malika Saada Saar, founder and executive director of the Rebecca Project for Human Rights, argued for “mothering with dignity”: “We see the reproductive rights discourse in the courtrooms where mothers lose their children because of maternal incarceration for non-violent, drug-related felonies,” she told an audience at the Center for American Progress (CAP). Like Saada Saar herself, CAP strongly supports abortion. “We see the reproductive rights language, vision, and discourse expanded into the slow corners...
