In the wake of Derrion Albert's death, I find myself increasingly disillusioned by the current state of Black America. While African Americans comprise 13.5 percent of the population, 43 percent of all murder victims in 2007 were African America. Of the 43 percent who were murdered, 93.1 percent were killed by African Americans. Was it always like this? The answer is Unequivocally: NO. The disproportionate crime rates, illegitimacy rates, divorce rates, drugs abuse, and disproportionate incarceration rates didn't begin until liberals took over the Black Community in the 60s. Before liberals came and negated the influence of the Black father...

This week I attended the Washington premiere of Michael Moore's "Capitalism: A Love Story." It was my first trip ever down the red carpet, and I was a bit disappointed that "Entertainment Tonight" wasn't there to comment on my wardrobe (black jacket over open-collared tattersall shirt) or get my reaction to the film ("Entertaining propaganda -- * *.") But, hey, it's not every day you get to watch a documentary about the housing crisis and Wall Street greed while sitting across the aisle from Frank Raines, the ousted chairman of Fannie Mae. Frank didn't stick around for the big after-party....

Which in this case is also the failure of progressivism: Are We Witnessing the Collapse of Liberalism? By J. Robert Smith American ThinkerLess than a year into his presidency, Barack Obama's world grows bleaker. Liberalism's world is bleaker. At home and abroad, liberalism, as advanced by the President, is failing. Are we witnessing the beginnings of another historic event, loosely comparable to the fall of communism twenty years ago? Now the fall of liberalism? Remember, at the beginning of the 1980s, no one would have predicted that by the decade's close the Berlin Wall would fall, communism would be discredited...

Late-night host David Letterman acknowledged on Thursday's show that he had sexual relationships with female employees and that someone tried to extort $2 million from him over the affairs. CBS says an employee has been charged with attempted grand larceny in the case. Letterman told his story during a taping of his show, mixing in jokes to an audience that seemed confused about what it was. He called it a "bizarre experience" that left him feeling disturbed and menaced.

Shocking! It’s simply shocking that a man who drugged, raped and sodomized a thirteen-year-old little girl—a man who plead guilty to statuary rape and was submitted for psychological evaluation for 43 days before sentencing—the man, Roman Polanski would be arrested in Switzerland on a U.S. warrant and is scheduled to be returned to the United States for his crimes of rape and fleeing sentencing. (see story) There are a lot of things going on between Switzerland and the U.S. right now and for the first time in history under Obama the U.S. is pressuring Swiss government to release information on...

I have a nightmare. I have a nightmare that sometime before the 2010 elections, the scales will fall from your eyes and you will see us as we really are. I have a nightmare that you will read C. S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters and realize that it is not fiction. I have a nightmare that you will read Plunkitt of Tammany Hall and get firsthand instruction in how we steal elections. I have a nightmare that you will read Machiavelli’s The Prince and realize that we got there way ahead of you. I have a nightmare that you will...

The public option was excised out of the Senate Finance Committee’s health care legislation just two days after the conclusion of a massive two-month effort from religious groups that lobbied for the controversial provision. The leaders of the 40 Days For Health Care Reform campaign emphasized that their effort was designed to promote increased access to health care no matter what the political flavor. But in the midst of intensive debate over the Democrats health care bills, the effort was seen largely as a religious push for Obamacare – specifically, universal coverage. “The purpose of 40 Days was just to...

If nothing else, the Obama eruption in American politics is steadily revealing the stark reality behind the progressive movement - the totalitarian temptation is always there and, for more than a few, possessing the official power to compel sooner or later becomes irresistible. Not everybody on the left, of course. Some of the folks I most admire in this town are liberals whose work on behalf of values like transparency in government and protecting civil liberties is remarkable and essential. Still, that this danger is real and growing becomes more obvious as public opposition grows to the president's across-the-board campaign...

If Zbigniew Brzezinski had his way, the US would go to war against Israel to defend Iran's nuclear installations. In an interview with the Daily Beast Web site last weekend, the man who served as former US president Jimmy Carter's national security adviser said, "They [IAF fighter jets] have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch? We have to be serious about denying them that right. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not." Brzezinski has long distinguished himself as...

My son who is 10 years old is going to the Montgomery County school system in Maryland this year to give him some wider experience after having all of his previous education in either Israeli or Jewish community schools. It certainly is an experience! In some ways, it seems like a parody of multiculturalism. My children are tough, well-informed and have strong characters, largely informed by an Israeli world view. But they also have a very American persona, though one that may be becoming increasingly rare among upper middle class elite counterparts. Here are some highlights of fourth-grade life in...

Since 1969, when young Americans scurried off to Woodstock to have sex, smoke grass, and burn their draft cards, it has become somehow ingrained in American society that liberalism is some cool, hip, renegade, individualist movement that separates and distinguishes oneself from the rest of stale, conservative, traditional, and unintelligent America. The modern, institutionalized ideal that “rebelling” is some noble mark of individual achievement can be tethered to this time, no matter how much an oxymoron to modern reality. And it is this same ideal upon which the modern plethora of uninformed and largely un-educated mass of American adult-adolescents now...

When I marked the recent anniversary of Peter Jennings's passing with a column about an embarrassing incident in the ABC newsman's career, a couple of readers chastised your gentle correspondent for speaking ill of the dead. So when Edward Kennedy died not long after, I decided to err on the side of decency and keep mum for an appropriate interval. OK, interval's up. The whitewashing and lionizing of Ted Kennedy was nauseating - though hardly unexpected from a media establishment that for decades has been in such embarrassing thrall to the Kennedys. Back in 2003, Kennedy - whose behavior during...

The left says Glenn Beck must be stopped. Beck, a media giant who commanders not just the radio but television, books and even comedy halls nationwide, is starting to collect liberal scalps. And the left, along with their chums in the mainstream media, won’t stand for it. Witness Time magazine’s latest cover story -- “Mad Man: Is Glenn Beck Bad for America” -- merely the most visible attempt to destroy/silence/marginalize the populist talker. For the last few years the left and the press would take shots at Beck, but never in a concerted fashion. He simply could be ignored, and...

The bars were sponsored by liquor companies, the kitchen by Lufthansa. One room had marble walls, another, cashmere. Hundreds of guests plucked hors d'oeuvres from Plexiglas trays, but when I reached for a passing tray of pigs in blankets, the waitress tried to stop me. "These are for Michael," she said. That would be Michael Moore, filmmaker, who was enthroned nearby on a crowded sofa nibbling from a skewer, which did seem less in harmony with his everyman sneakers and populist persona than a sausage wrapped in fried bread. The Monday night party in Manhattan, which spread over two luxurious...

The American university is the anti-Disneyland, the saddest place on Earth. Today's colleges can make MSNBC seem fair and balanced and give the term "clinical depression" a sunny and joyful flavor. It's no wonder so many prominent liberal intellectuals are angry, begrudging, and gloomy. They imbibe four to ten years of it during their college studies. And their brethren in the media give them a consistent platform for their gloom. A few years ago, the Washington Post discovered that over 72 percent of college professors classify themselves as liberal. The study showed that the most left-leaning departments are in the...

Here is video of conservative comedian Steven Crowder going undercover as a liberal student in ultra-liberal Berkeley, California. Crowder asks students on campus several questions, including "Who is your favorite President?" He also asked a question about slavery inside a classroom. Perhaps the best moment is when Crowder approaches a table set up to promote the Health Care Public Option with a sign saying it was "in memory of Ted Kennedy." Crowder asked those manning the table, "Does Mary Jo Kopechne support this too?" The students responded, "I'm not sure," and "I think so." Crowder certainly exposes the liberal bias...

During an economic recession the recipe for an economic recovery is openly demonstrated by history. Lowering corporate taxes, lowering individual income taxes, lowering capital gains taxes and lessening government regulations and restrictions on business and industry is the repeatedly proven method to restore an ailing economy. Presidents Kennedy, Reagan and George W. Bush all successfully implemented tax cuts to improve this nations economy. Coming into office while the economy was slowing toward recession, even after the 9-11 attacks Presidents Bush's tax cuts and economic policies helped spur 50 consecutive months of economic growth, more than 8 million new jobs, real...

Liberal Professor Mr. Tugan-Baranovsky is on the war path against socialism. This time he has approached the question, not from the political and economic angle, but from that of an abstract discussion on equality (perhaps the professor thought such an abstract discussion more suitable for the religious and philosophical gatherings which he has addressed?). "If we take socialism, not as an economic theory, but as a living ideal," Mr. Tugan declared, "then, undoubtedly, it is associated with the ideal of equality, but equality is a concept . . . that cannot be deduced from experience and reason." This is the...

A San Francisco sex group's four-year strategic plan, aimed to "change the way Americans think about sex" by desensitizing mainstream American culture to aberrant sexual practices, has been leaked. The document reveals a well thought out strategy to acclimatize the American public to everything from the practice of sadomasochism to orgies and every other "consensual" sexual behavior besides. "CSC will be taking the lead in framing the sex positive discourse in our culture," writes the Center for Sex and Culture in its 2007-2011 strategic plan. "In this ambitious vision of the future, certainly more than five years distant, CSC will...

A million or so people gathered on Washington to protest recently and were accused of -being a small, insignificant yet dangerous group of -racists, -rednecks, -and haters. They came from all across the country, many driving themselves rather than being bused in. Most carried home-made signs protesting profligate government spending, government intrusion into their lives and the breakneck lurch to the left being led by Team Obama. But in a more general way they were protesting a mindset. They were tired of being abused verbally, emotionally, spiritually. They were protesting a group of people who believe they are the smartest,...

WASHINGTON -- In her maiden Supreme Court appearance last week, Justice Sonia Sotomayor made a provocative comment that probed the foundations of corporate law. During arguments in a campaign-finance case, the court's majority conservatives seemed persuaded that corporations have broad First Amendment rights and that recent precedents upholding limits on corporate political spending should be overruled. But Justice Sotomayor suggested the majority might have it all wrong -- and that instead the court should reconsider the 19th century rulings that first afforded corporations the same rights flesh-and-blood people have. Judges "created corporations as persons, gave birth to corporations as persons,"...

The liberals were crazy angry while George W. Bush was president. Part of it was that for a time after 9/11, they were made completely irrelevant — when people are dying, who is going to listen to a liberal? But another part of it is that it’s much easier to hate a person than to hate a concept — like conservatism. So they were able to channel all their hate into President Bush. And they were jumping-around-pooh-flinging-biting-each-other angry. I think a number of conservatives were secretly looking forward to the Obama presidency in hopes that liberals might just calm down...

Take Peter Singer, author of "Animal Liberation." This publication has been the inspiration for PETA; featured in the movie "Legally Blonde" and is the animal rights bible to which animal rights activists turn for guidance the same way Christians reference the actual bible. Beyond rights for animals (see if you catch the irony here) Singer believes that abortion should be available for any reason, up to and beyond birth. That's right - if you eat a hamburger, he'll call you a murder, but if you kill a baby he'll say you're doing the right thing. He believes that killing a...

It would be foolhardy to attempt to describe all of human stupidity. So I will try to describe only two examples that are relevant today: (1) I can’t manage my own affairs, but I want to manage yours. (2) If I imagine it, it must be true. Einstein was correct. There is no limit to human stupidity. But even he could not predict how much damage would be done by self-anointed elitists living in their own fantasy world.

The Laffer Curve is a simple idea: a government can’t raise taxes forever and expect to increase revenue along the way. Eventually you’re taking so much in taxes that people don’t have any reason to earn income. The argument is simple (and correct): if you have zero tax rate you get zero tax revenue. If you raise taxes just a bit, nobody will be discouraged from working, and you will collect some amount of revenue; therefore, the curve of revenue versus tax rate starts at zero and initially rises. But if the tax rate is 100%, nobody has any reason...

Just when you thought Jimmy Carter could not disgrace the office he once held any further, he goes out and tops himself. The former president avers that "an overwhelming proportion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, he's African-American," Carter, 84, told NBC television. "I live in the South, and I have seen the South come a long way," Carter added. "But that racism inclination still exists, and I think it has bubbled up to the surface because of a belief among many white people, not just...

Those anticipating leadership and clarity from President Obama in last week’s address to Congress on health care reform were disappointed. He could have shown us that he had at last started listening to what most Americans were telling him and the Congress to do, and outlined proposals to address the weaknesses of the current health care system, the one that provides the highest level of care in the world. He could have endorsed several needed reforms, ones that Republicans support, which would change this Democrat crusade into a bi-partisan effort, changes like tort reform to lower malpractice and health insurance...

The message began to pop-up all over my Facebook page: “No one should die because they cannot afford health care or insurance and no one should go broke or bankrupt because they get sick.” Let us set aside the fact that no one in need of emergency life-saving medical care is denied because they do not have insurance and that there are state and federal programs already in existence that provide medical coverage for those of lesser means. I agree with the sentiment. I dare say I know of no one that doesn’t agree. There is simply no questioning the...

The passing of Senator Edward Kennedy was truly the end of an era. He had been extolled as the "lion of the Senate." Understandably, given the impact of his life, the news media were filled with stories about Kennedy, his family, his trials and tribulations and his contributions. I was most surprised to read that a month before his death Senator Kennedy had written a letter to Pope Benedict XVI, which was delivered to him by President Obama. As a practicing Catholic, I took great interest in Kennedy's thoughts about his Catholicism at the end of his life.

Van Jones’ sins are well known at this point: He called conservatives a vulgar name, to the cheers of his radical audience. He accused white people of deliberately polluting black neighborhoods and he signed on to a movement that accused the US government of being behind the 9-11 attacks, or that at least it knew of them in advance. And, most significantly, he is/was an avowed communist. But what were the “inside baseball” reasons to hire him?

Statistics, even at their best, don't tell a whole story. A variety of people employ medical statistics dubiously to push pet causes. A perfect example: infant mortality statistics. The officially reported U.S. infant mortality rate has been indisputably high compared with similarly industrialized countries since at least the 1920s. That fact has led to public health officials in the U.S. to conclude the rates are "caused" by poorly distributed health care resources and can be "solved" with a socialized, government-run health care system. However, there's a basic problem with the numbers: Different countries count differently. According to the World Health...

Ever find yourself in a discussion with a liberal who claims that they, not you, agree with the founding fathers because the founding fathers were liberal? Liberals have twisted the meanings of things to the point that they are convinced that they are right. It is kind of like their claim that the constitution or the Bible are living documents. By doing so, they can feel justified in their immoralistic destructive behavior as they support policies that will ultimately destroy this once great country. However, I digress from my point for this post. I would like to make my...

THR: What's the last movie you saw? The last book you read? Moore: A Norwegian film called "Troubled Water." Best drama I've seen this year. The last book was "The Coming Insurrection" (a French leftist call-to-arms manifesto that has been labeled a "manual for terrorism" by the French government). I'm also reading the daily newspaper religiously, considering how there won't be any to read a year from now.

BOSTON, Mass. (CNN) - She was called "the littlest refusenik," one of the many Soviet Jews denied permission to leave the Soviet Union because her father had been exposed to government secrets. But the case of Jessica Katz was special because she was a baby born with a nutritional deficiency that stopped her from growing. She was a tiny baby dying in a Moscow hospital, getting weaker by the day. It was U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy who, her parents say, eventually saved her life. Jessica was born in Moscow in 1977 with malabsorption syndrome, which prevented her from digesting food...

In the Politico today, Secretary Gates admonishes the AP for publishing a photo of Lance Corporal Joshua Bernard dying in Afghanistan: Defense Secretary Robert Gates is objecting “in the strongest terms” to an Associated Press decision to transmit a photograph showing a mortally wounded 21-year-old Marine in his final moments of life, calling the decision “appalling” and a breach of “common decency.” The AP reported that the Marine’s father had asked – in an interview and in a follow-up phone call — that the image, taken by an embedded photographer, not be published. AP reported in a story that it...

The Democrats, whose presidential administration previously condemned as "potential terrorists" those who oppose same-sex marriage and are offended by restrictions on firearms, all based on Internet chatter, has suggested blasting those who oppose Obamacare as "right-wing domestic terrorists" on 9/11 of this year. According to an "Organizing for America" campaign document unveiled by the Heritage Foundation the plan involves having activists telephone their "State Senators" on Sept. 11, 2009, to demand a "public option" which essentially would involve a government-funded and government-run monopoly on health care.

I grew up in a storybook family. My parents, refugees from the urban jungle, felt like royalty in our little suburban home. They even referred to our lives as a fable, with a happily ever after ending. The problem for me was the disconnect between what my parents said and what I experienced. As a kid my life felt more like a Greek tragedy than a fairy tale. While my parents partied hardy, I was bored out of my gourd at home. When what you're told doesn't jive with your own eyes, you proceed in one of two directions. One...

Obama adviser: Republicans are "a**holes" By Tony Romm - 09/02/09 09:59 AM ET A video in which White House green jobs adviser Van Jones calls Congressional Republicans (and himself) "a**holes" is quickly making the rounds on the Internet this morning. Jones made the off-the-cuff remark in February, during his lecture at a Berkeley Energy and Resources Collaborative (BERC) event on the green economy. At the time, the Obama administration had not yet tapped Jones to serve as a special adviser on the White House's Council on Environmental Quality. The slip happened in response to a question about the Democratic Party's...
