Patricia Lightner, a conservative Republican and former state representative, is campaigning for a position in the Third Congressional District, and has formally launched a campaign web site. The seat is held by Rep. Dennis Moore, a Democrat, who has been under public scrutiny lately for what critics say is his lack of accountability and availability to his constituents. Lightner said she was motivated to enter the race out of a desire to promote liberty in individualism, freedom of economic choice and the right to life. Lightner said these rights have been compromised by the Democratic majority in Washington, including Moore.

Terry Goodman, an Overland Park city councilman, said today he's considering a campaign next year for the 3rd Congressional District seat currently held by Democrat Dennis Moore of Lenexa. In the latest Rasmussen Reports election poll of the Kansas gubernatorial race, Democratic Governor Kathleen Sebelius continues to enjoy healthy leads over the two Republicans with the best chance of facing her this fall. Sebelius now leads former state House Speaker Robin Jennison 51% to 31%, a slight improvement for the governor since our last survey. Sebelius leads State Senator Jim Barnett 49% to 36%. Again, close to what we saw last time.

Republican gubenatorial candidate Robin Jennison named a Johnson County senator as his running mate. The selection of Senator Dennis Wilson, R-Overland Park, gives the ticket some geographical balance. Jennison, a former House speaker, is from Healy in west-central Kansas.

Although Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D) does not currently attract more than 50% support when matched up with her Republican opponents, she is maintaining strong but slightly narrower leads over them. Sebelius now leads former state House Speaker Robin Jennison 50% to 33%, a two-point shaving of the gap between them. The governor leads State Senator Jim Barnett 49% to 37%. Last month, Sebelius led Barnett 50% to 37%.

Last night, I was told that a report was recently published by some DC think-tank. This report ranked members of congress in order of taxpayer-friendliness, i.e. it examined their votes on tax-related bills and determined where any particular member of congress came in on higher or lower taxes for their constituents. The reason for my apology was that throughout this primary season we have been hearing about the record turnout of voters participating in Democrat caucuses and primaries. I bought the lie. The truth is that, except for Iowa and New Hampshire, there has not been any sort of record turnout for the Democrats.
