Schrödinger's cat is the poster child for quantum weirdness. Now it has been immortalised in a portrait created by one of the theory's strangest consequences: quantum entanglement. These images were generated using a cat stencil and entangled photons. The really spooky part is that the photons used to generate the image never interacted with the stencil, while the photons that illuminated the stencil were never seen by the camera.

Opie and Spilka’s partner, James Roode, were on a walk around their neighborhood in Ontario, Canada, last August when Opie heard a squeak coming from the bushes. Opie led Roode to a newborn kitten pinned underneath a log, and the dog continued to cry and whine until his owner took the shirt off of his back to pick up the kitten and carry the injured animal inside. A year later, Opie and Roscoe now lead adorable lives as the best of animal friends.

If you're partial to black and white "tuxedo" cats, an animal shelter in Novato, Calif., would like to talk. It seems someone has dropped off more than 100 of the cats over the last 18 months. The last dropoff occurred Monday, when a car pulled up to the Marin Humane Society and left behind three boxes with 24 cats. It was the fourth such occurrence in the last 18 months. This Sunday, Aug. 17, is National Black Cat Appreciation Day, a time to recognize the fine features of these felines and to encourage the adoption of black cats. A black cat is not a specific breed. The Cat Fanciers Association allows solid black coloring in 22 of its recognized breeds.
