Cop-turned-politician Eddie Diaz has faced tough odds before, including when he took eight bullets from an assailant's gun and struggled back from near death and partial paralysis. But with just three weeks before Election Day, Diaz's hopes of parlaying his well-publicized struggle into a congressional seat have never seemed dimmer.

<p>Cop-turned-candidate Eddie Diaz stormed U.S. Rep. Ric Keller's Orlando office with TV cameras in tow Wednesday and demanded that his opponent return contributions from beleaguered WorldCom.</p> <p>Diaz, a Democrat running against Keller in the 8th Congressional District, said Keller owes it to "working families" to give back $8,500 in campaign contributions he has accepted from WorldCom, which on Sunday became the largest corporation in U.S. history to file for bankruptcy.</p> <p>"It's a debacle," Diaz said. "It's thievery -- it's money that belongs to certain people, and it certainly doesn't belong to Ric."</p>
