  • Congress to Vote on $1.2 Trillion Spending Bill Hours After 3:00 A.M. Release

Congress will vote Friday on a $1.2 trillion, 1,000-plus page spending bill revealed Thursday just before 3:00 a.m. The bill will start in the House, where Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will move the bill under “suspension of the rules.” Johnson repeatedly has used suspension of the rules — which requires two-thirds support but bypasses procedural opposition from conservatives — to advance legislation lacking broad Republican support. Suspension of the rules also enables Johnson to bypass a requirement that Congress receive at least 72 hours to review legislation before voting on it.

Rep. Kay Granger has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, her office says. Granger received her first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in December, Both vaccines currently being administered in the U.S. require two doses. The Republican, whose district includes Fort Worth, was tested upon returning to Washington D.C. for the 117th Congress. She began quarantining as soon as she heard of her positive result. Her office says Granger is asymptomatic and feeling great. Granger won her bid for re-election in November. The highest-ranking Republican woman in the House won her toughest primary in 20 years by abandoning her pro-choice positions for pro-life votes. Less than two decades ago, President Donald Trump described himself as “pro-choice in every respect.” He’s now the most pro-life president in modern history, rolling back Obama-era abortion funding, and nominating conservative Supreme Court justices. Critics and conservatives alike remain skeptical that he is personally pro-life, yet pro-lifers offer him fervent support due to his policies. However transactional his evolution on the issue seems, it may be having a broader effect down the ballot. Rep. Kay Granger is...

Ben Sasse and the rest of the GOP elite claim Trump is a menace who must be stopped “on principle.” Sasse and others have criticized Trump for not disavowing racists quickly enough (even though Trump disavowed racists repeatedly). Sasse has a bigger problem – he supported a pedophile. Some suspect he used his position of authority to enable abuse. Ben Sasse was in charge of supervising underage boys, who were later abused by members of Congress. Ben Sasse was a tutor in the Congressional page program from 1996 to 1998. The Congressional page program brings underage boys to Congress to...

This week, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz joined an amicus brief on behalf of 22 members of the Texas congressional delegation in support of private landowners along the Red River. The Bureau of Land Management has recently made waves by claiming thousands of acres of privately owned Texas land along the Red River. It has done so by utilizing — in apparent violation of a nearly 100-year-old Supreme Court precedent and tradition — an arbitrary and bizarre gradient boundary survey method that has adversely impacted private landowners. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) joined Cruz in the brief...

Ted Cruz continued his campaign against the national healthcare law Friday, calling on Texans to rise up and join a grassroots movement to try to repeal the program. This time, he took his argument to a group of local businesspeople, saying it’s time for change.“How do we repeal Obamacare?” he asked a crowd of nearly 300 people gathered for a Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Petroleum Club. “It will come from millions and millions of people rising up and saying” that it doesn’t work.He likened such a movement to a late 1970s push that ultimately ushered in the...

Dear Friend, With all that is going in Washington these days some things don’t make the news the way they should. Fourteen days ago President Obama issued an Executive Order that you should know about. This order gives an unprecedented level of authority to the President and the federal government to take over all the fundamental parts of our economy - in the name of national security - in times of national emergency. This means all of our water resources, construction services and materials (steel, concrete, etc.), our civil transportation system, food and health resources, our energy supplies including oil...

The huge federal transportation bill was in tatters in early March when Representative Mike Rogers of Alabama posed a heretical idea for breaking through gridlock in the House. In a closed-door meeting with fellow Republicans, Rogers recommended reviving a proven legislative sweetener that became politically toxic a year ago. Bring back earmarks, Rogers, who was first elected to Congress in 2002, told his colleagues. … New Republican members backed by the Tea Party movement have railed against earmarks as a symbol of out-of-control government spending and unaccountable lawmakers. Congress has another nine months to operate under an earmark ban, so...

WASHINGTON -- A Fort Worth congresswoman wants manufactured and mobile homes to come equipped with weather radios. Congresswoman Kay Granger's proposal comes after this week's deaths of at least six people in flooding in North Texas. The Fort Worth Republican is co-sponsoring legislation requiring that every manufactured home be supplied with a weather radio. The radio would automatically carry emergency broadcasts of the National Weather Service. The requirement would be part of the federal manufactured home construction and safety standards. The bill is named after CJ Martin, a two-year-old boy killed in a 2005 tornado. His mother helped get a...

Libertarians could rock the Texas vote Nov. 2. Thursday, October 14, 2004 DALLAS — If you thought more Republicans are running in Texas' 32 congressional districts this year than Democrats, you'd be right. There are 29, versus 28 Democrats. If you thought Republicans had the most of any party, you'd be wrong. That's the Libertarians, with 30. They left unchallenged only Republicans Ron Paul of Surfside in the 14th District, the Libertarians' presidential candidate in 1988, and former Fort Worth Mayor Kay Granger in the 12th. The significance of this show of candidates is not that even one Texas Libertarian...

WASHINGTON – House Majority Leader Dick Armey has attempted to slip language into a military appropriations bill that would force Belo, parent company of The Dallas Morning News, to divest itself of one of its Dallas-area media properties. Congressional and company officials said Mr. Armey's office asked Republicans to insert the provision as House and Senate aides completed work Friday on the military construction appropriations conference report that awaits final congressional action. Though the provision was not included in the working draft after objections were raised, House and Senate conferees could add it when they meet early this week to...
