Failed 2004 Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John Kerry (Mass.) lashed out today at the most decorated living American serviceman, Col. Bud Day, who was awarded the Medal Honor for his heroism as a POW during the Vietnam War.Kerry attacked Day for his role in the McCain Truth Squad (a new effort by presumptive Republican presidential candidate John McCain to defend his military service from criticism) because of Day's participation in the Swift Vets and POWs for Truth (SBVT) 2004 campaign which criticized Kerry's service in Vietnam as a junior naval officer and his actions protesting the war when he returned...

LOWELL – Gloucester attorney Ed O’Reilly got enough support from party officials today to ensure that he will give US Senator John F. Kerry his first Democratic primary challenge in 24 years. At the state Democratic Party convention at the Paul E. Tsongas Arena, O’Reilly got 22.5 percent of the 2,574 ballots cast, more than the 15 percent he needed to secure a spot on the primary ballot. Kerry got the majority of votes, which means he'll get the party's endorsement. "Party officials said this campaign is a nuisance. And it is. It’s a total nuisance," O’Reilly said to the...

U.S. Sen. John Kerry - wary of a potential political embarrassment - has been calling in favors to top Bay State Democrats in a bid to block a Gloucester lawyer from getting on the ballot to challenge him, the Herald has learned. Several high-ranking Democrats said the senator has reached out in recent days seeking support and asking for help in preventing attorney Ed O’Reilly from getting the convention votes he needs to force a September primary race against Kerry. O’Reilly, a former firefighter, needs 15 percent support from the Democratic State Committee at the party’s convention Saturday in Lowell...

BOSTON — Gloucester attorney Edward O'Reilly has cleared an important hurdle in his bid to challenge U.S. Sen. John Kerry, filing with state officials nomination papers containing more than 11,636 signatures. O'Reilly, a Democrat, on Wednesday turned in more than the minimum 10,000 signatures required of U.S. Senate candidates and submitted them nearly a month before the June 3 deadline. "This shows I'm serious," O'Reilly said. Since announcing his candidacy last year, O'Reilly has crisscrossed the state, meeting voters in more than 110 communities and collecting signatures. He also hired Spoonworks, a Brookline firm that gathers signatures for political candidates....

Arizona senator says GOP rhetoric 'not helpful' WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Thursday he did not believe Democratic candidate John Kerry, a friend and Senate colleague, was weak on defense or would compromise national security if elected president. “This kind of rhetoric, I think, is not helpful in educating and helping the American people make a choice,” McCain said on “The Early Show” on CBS. “You know, it’s the most bitter and partisan campaign that I’ve ever observed. I think it’s because both parties are going to their bases rather than going to the middle. I regret it.”...

LEONE, American Samoa - In a sleepy village on the western shores of this remote and beautiful island, the Junior ROTC instructor asks his young cadets to step forward if they have decided what to do after graduating from high school in the spring. Of 12 seniors, half march ahead to say they already have committed to a branch of the U.S. military. Three more indicate they are considering it. The last three stay put. They're interested in the military, they say, but have failed the tests required for entry. Emosi Time, a lanky boy in perfectly pressed uniform, quietly...

This is the new era of bipartisanship. I know this because I hear it on TV all the time, so it’s got to be true. Therefore, I call on all patriotic Americans to seize this golden opportunity for real change by speaking with one clear voice to Washington. Don’t let John Kerry run again. Yes, yes, it’s true: I am biased. I have never been kind to the Brahmin Lurch. After his “botched” joke suggesting that American troops are uneducated losers, I wrote that Kerry “is an awful politician, a human toothache with the charisma of a 19th-century Oxford Latin...

Forget plummeting poll numbers, John Kerry's got a much bigger PR problem. The junior senator's been dropped from the menu at Bartley's Burger Cottage in Harvard Square. Bill Bartley, son of the famed burger joint's founder, Joe Bartley, says he wants a menu with more sizzle, and that means Barack Obama is in and Kerry is out. "How long has he been my senator, and what's he ever done except embarrass me?" Bartley said yesterday.

Nothing is ever simple when it comes to John Kerry. The senator from Massachusetts and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, sent out 75,000 Christmas cards with pictures of trees at each season. The Kerrys gushed over their "gratitude for the beauty of these trees and the life they represent." But it didn't end there. The card came in an odd-looking envelope, one of those with a return-mail flap and instructions to send it to . . . well, to a recycling company, so "it can be made into new carpet tile." Carpet tile? We want a "world without waste ....

Priceless photo and post at PowerLine today: On his visit to Iraq, Senator Kerry apparently got something like the silent treatment from the troops who are "stuck" there. WDAY's Scott Hennen quotes a message from a friend serving in Iraq: This is a true story....Check out this photo from our mess hall at the US Embassy yesterday morning. Sen. Kerry found himself all alone while he was over here. He cancelled his press conference because no one came, he worked out alone in the gym w/o any soldiers even going up to say hi or ask for an autograph (I...

"This is a true story.....Check out this photo from our mess hall at the US Embassy yesterday morning. Sen. Kerry found himself all alone while he was over here. He cancelled his press conference because no one came, he worked out alone in the gym w/o any soldiers even going up to say hi or ask for an autograph (I was one of those who was in the gym at the same time), and he found himself eating breakfast with only a couple of folks who are obviously not troops. What is amazing is Bill O'Reilly came to visit with...

BAGHDAD, Iraq: U.S. Sen. John Kerry said Saturday his visit with American and British troops had helped in "crystallizing" his views about the situation in Iraq and he was looking forward to hearing Iraqi ideas about political steps to restore stability here.Kerry, the Democratic nominee for president in 2004 and possibly a future contender, conferred Saturday with U.S. and British officers in the southern city of Basra and with American troops in Diyala province during a nine-day Middle East tour. "Today was very informative and very helpful in crystallizing some of my thoughts insofar as what we can negotiate ......

SENATOR JOHN KERRY 304 RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING WASHINGTON DC 20510 DEAR SENATOR KERRY: WE ARE STILL LAUGHING OVER HERE IN IRAQ AT YOUR JOKE ABOUT THE TROOPS BEING DUMB. WE DO RECOGNIZE THAT YOU ARE A LOT SMARTER THAN WE ARE BECAUSE YOU WERE ABLE TO GET OUT OF COMBAT IN THREE MONTHS. THIS IS WHY WE ARE SEEKING YOUR ADVICE. PLEASE GIVE US GUIDANCE. 1.) WHERE IS THE LEAST PAINFUL AREA ON THE BODY TO INFLICT A WOUND? 2.) DOES IT HAVE TO BLEED OR WILL A SCRATCH DO? 3.) WHERE DO YOU GET THE FORMS TO FILL...

Recently, I was re-reading one of P.J. O’Rourke’s books, and this happened to be while John Kerry was on Larry King Live. As Kerry was trying to dig his way out of a hole with such vigor that he was about to reach China, I ran across the chapter title, “Commies: Dead but too dumb to lie down.” I looked up at John Francois Kerry, and it was as if the gods of fortuitous timing were with me that evening. The chapter title, most of it anyway, was the perfect description of what has become of John Kerry’s presidential aspirations....

I recently went to google to do a search for the image of the soldiers in Iraq hold the sign "Halp us Jon Carry..." I entered the following variations in the search box: 1. Halp us Jon Carry 2. Help us Jon Carry 3. Halp us John Kerry 4. Help us John Kerry Google did not come up with the requested image, even though it was recently all over the internet. Even when I asked for a search of John Kerry, it did not come up with the image. This is just more evidence to the often stated position that...

My face time with John Kerry has been brief but choice. In 2003, I was at a campaign event in New Hampshire chatting with two old coots in plaid. The senator approached and stopped in front of us. The etiquette in primary season is that the candidate defers to the cranky Granite Stater's churlish indifference to status and initiates the conversation: "Hi, I'm John Kerry. Good to see ya. Cold enough for ya? How 'bout them Sox?" Etc. Instead, Kerry just stood there nose to nose, staring at us with an inscrutable semi-glare on his face. After an eternity, an...

Polls: Surge for GOP in Montana, Rhode Island, Tennessee Republicans are seeing a last minute surge, according to a series of Mason-Dixon polls for McClatchy Newspapers-MSNBC. "Twelve new state-by-state polls show a surprise shift in the political battleground to the north as Republican incumbents clawed their way back in two states frequently written off as lost to them — Montana and Rhode Island," McClatchy newspapers reported early Sunday. Republican Sen. Conrad Burns is now in a dead heat with Democrat Jon Tester, both tied with 47 percent of the vote. Burns had been trailing badly just weeks ago. And another...

Halping Private Carry by Edward Wronka Typically its not wise for political parties to dwell on the gaffes of their opponents, as a gaffe by its very nature doesn’t typically contain much in the way of substance in the more important battle of ideas that really make a difference between two political parties competing for votes in our democracy. But the recent "botched joke" of Senator John Kerry may deserve an even deeper inspection, especially in light of the fact that this was the opposition party’s top choice to replace the President two short years ago. That’s right! This was...

A West Point Cadet sends this along with the photo below: I'm a cadet at West Point, and tonight at our game against the Air Force Academy, a big sign emerged, and it was shown to the Corps of Cadets, who cheered wildly, and then shown to the Air Force cadets, who also cheered.

WASHINGTON -- As the furor widened over Sen. John Kerry's insulting remarks about U.S. troops in Iraq, his website pulled down a listing of $4.2 million worth of contributions he had sent this year to 36 candidates for Congress. Kerry, eyeing another presidential candidacy in 2008, has traveled the country raising funds for key contests in Tuesday's midterm elections. The now deleted information on the Kerry website displayed the photos of his beneficiaries: 18 Senate candidates receiving $3.2 million and 18 House candidates getting $1 million. The largest Kerry contribution was $586,000 to Pennsylvania State Treasurer Bob Casey, who is...

It's the first time any independent poll has Mike Sodrel ahead in the 9th district congressional race in southern Indiana. And it looks like the Libertarian candidate could be a big factor in that race. The WHAS11/Survey USA poll shows Sodrel and Hill are just as close as their last two elections. The Republican Sodrel is leading Hill 46 to 44, well within the margin of error. It's Eric Schansberg, the Libertarian candidate, who could decide that race. The poll shows Schansberg with five percent with most of his support coming from liberals, apparently pulling support from the Democrat Hill....

"Mission Accomplished" vs. "Halp us jon carry - we r stuck hear n irak" (media bias) Compare the coverage in the liberal media of the "Halp us jon carry - we r stuck hear n irak" banner by our troops in Iraq this week vs. the feeding frenzy over the "Mission Accomplished" banner from the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln returning from an extended deployment so they could participate in Iraqi Freedom back in March 2003. This morning ONE major newspaper decided to run a picture of the banner along with a cover story... The New York Post, ironically the only...

We've been inundated with media requests about the source of the now-famous "HALP US JON CARRY" banner. (I've already done a live shot on Fox News, and given interviews for John Gibson's show and "Inside Edition," which should air later today.) **UPDATE The MSM catches up. Even CNN is reporting Troops respond to 'Jon Carry' with plea for 'halp'; while CBS is reporting "Minnesota Guard Members Mock Kerry In 'Irak' Photo", The AP has put a story on the wire, and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is also catching up: The photo initially was posted on the website of Milwaukee talk radio...

John Kerry says that only dopes are fighting in Iraq. Kerry is both a snob and a fool, and his presidential prospects are nil, and yet some good can still come from his ill-chosen and insensitive remarks. Here's what the Massachusetts Democratic senator said to a college audience on Monday: "If ... you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." Ha ha. Kerry lamely tried to claim that he was referring to George W. Bush, not the GIs, but few were buying his spin. ...Break... ABC's George Stephanopoulos, another...
