To the Editor: Re "Directions for the Democrats" (Op-Ed, Dec. 8): We Democrats should start by recommitting ourselves to the party and what it stands for. Rather than connect his campaign with the record of the Democratic Party, John Kerry constantly said that he and John Edwards "had a plan." Voters need to be reminded that the Democratic Party brought them Social Security, Medicare, environmental protection and civil rights. Because of these successes, the party can be counted on to deliver a foreign policy that develops peaceful relations with the international community, a domestic platform nurturing families young and old...

Dan got smeared The ordeal of Dan Rather goes far beyond the man himself. It speaks to the presumption of guilt that now rules the day in America. Because of a ruthless and callow media, no citizen, much less one who achieves fame, is given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to allegations or personal attacks. The smearing of America is in full bloom. Weeks before the election, Kitty Kelley put out a book defaming the entire Bush family. The allegations were primarily made by anonymous people, but that didn't stop the media from gleefully recounting all the...

Editorial: Anglosphere's leadership is singing in tune IN an analysis of George W. Bush's election victory in the current issue of The Economist, the magazine's acerbic US commentator, "Lexington", warns the Democrats against the self-serving view that the US President won by appealing to base instincts such as fear and hatred. The Republicans "clobbered them on hope". Mr Bush was better than John Kerry at "exuding optimism" and "addressing the aspirations of an aspirational people". This is always the winning strategy in a pro-growth culture such as the US, and shows the Republicans have turned themselves into the "party of...

Thank goodness for pollster Brad Coker and his Mason-Dixon research organization. Their late polls may rescue us from a wrong-headed interpretation of the 2004 election results. Coker offers an alternative to Warren Mitofsky’s flawed exit-poll-driven conclusion that moral values were the driving force behind this election. Yes, the fact that moral values were more frequently mentioned in this year’s exit poll is significant, but it’s not as significant as it’s being touted to be. Although morality was a plurality winner in the exit poll’s “most important issue” sweepstakes, barely one in five voters (22 percent) said values were the top...

THE POLLING The new $10 million polling system used by many news organizations to predict the outcome of the presidential race had a number of problems that led to the early erroneous impression that John Kerry was heading for victory, according to a report prepared by the system's architects. The report, written by Joe Lenski and Warren Mitofsky and obtained by The New York Times, details systemic glitches that skewed the data in ways of which several news organizations, who paid tens of thousands of dollars for the service, were not aware. In some cases, the report said, survey takers...

Disclaimer: this talkshow has no transcripts available and it was broadcasted entirely in Chinese (Cantonese). I'm summarizing the important points here for Freepers to know what this famous HK talkshow host is saying. Some of the mainpoints in the programme include: On Michael Moore and Osama bin Laden: Michael Moore is either incredibly dumb or an undercover campaigner for Bush. He (along with OBL) has unwittingly helped Bush thinking his pseudo-documentary Fahrenheit 9/11. There was a scene when Bush learned the attacks in New York on 9/11 and he was frozen and pondering. Moore remarked in the film that Bush...

The exit polling data has created a distinct misimpression in the media. Only dumb rednecks who hate gays voted for Bush. However a close examination of the data shows otherwise. Look at the results via educational background. 49% of the people who didn't graduate high school voted for Bush versus 44% of the people with a post graduate degree. In other words, there are more morons who have earned graduate degrees than have dropped out of high school. It should be noted, Bush did consistently well with people who are h.s. grads, have some college and are college graduates (around...

George Bush won a decisive victory, and the largest popular vote of any president in history. Despite the fact that he had significant leads in the remaining undeclared states like New Mexico and Iowa, for a long time the major media prognosticators wouldn’t declare a victory--which would have pushed his 269 electoral count into victory lane. They couldn’t come to accept the fact that John Kerry--with all of his money, the money of George Soros and other major contributors, the support of the major print and television media, the support of the Hollywood left, and every negative issue that could...

Election 2004 Fraud Recon Party When is electoral fraud not a fraud? When it’s an attempt to get caught in the act, of course. That expectation and more are all part of a Democrat Party plan to poison the nation’s electoral process, survey the weaknesses and strengths of the system and sow the seeds for another half-century of racial discontent. And that, my friends, is exactly what’s being going on from absentee ballot grifting to zealous registrars from day one. In baseball, a batter who is “on deck”, will swing a weighted bat to “loosen up”; when he steps to...

Senator John Kerry is pushing the concept, and so are some Senate Republicans. That is why lawmakers and lobbyists say that regardless of who wins the presidential election, Congress will soon take up the idea of fighting high health insurance costs by shielding employers from the most expensive medical cases. In seeking to rein in the costs of the runaway insurance premiums paid by employers and their workers - nearly $520 billion this year and rising - politicians of both parties and some business groups are pushing an idea known as reinsurance. Such an approach might take its place alongside...

From those who know him best - "Don't vote for Kerry..." "...only one (candidate) would never sacrifice principle for political advantage." "One of these men says he craves the respect of the world. The other by his words and deeds commands it." "The attacks of Sept. 11 changed all that, but they didn't change the character of this country. Rather, that day we were reminded of who we are and what our nation must be in the world. And a president narrowly elected on a platform of reinvigorating a smaller yet compassionate government, averse to ``nation-building,'' immediately adapted to this...

SANTA FE, N.M., Oct. 16 - In one of President Bush's latest advertisements, a clock ticks menacingly as a young mother pulls a quart of milk out of a refrigerator in slow motion, a young father loads toddlers into a minivan and an announcer intones ominously, "Weakness invites those who would do us harm." In one of Senator John Kerry's recent commercials, a man shoots a machine gun into the air, a car bursts into a huge orange fireball and a group of Iraqi men carry what appears to be an injured person on a stretcher as an announcer says,...

There is a bloc of voters that may easily decide the forthcoming election. A little over a million Serbian-Americans—their exact number is uncertain but this is a conservative estimate—are likely to vote this year in greater numbers than ever before. The significance of this group becomes obvious if we look at its geographic distribution. After Chicago, the main Serbian-American centers are Pittsburgh, PA; Cleveland, OH; and Milwaukee, WI. There are thousands of retirees in Florida and sizeable pockets in St. Louis (MO) and suburban New Jersey. In each of those states the size of the community exceeds the likely margin...

“I Was an Altar Boy” By: Keith A. Fournier © Third Millennium, LLC Last Friday night, along with millions of Americans and many others throughout the world, I watched the Presidential debate It was toward the end of this debate that a question was raised about the fundamental human rights issue of our age, the right to life, and the first freedom, the freedom to be born. When I heard candidate Kerry’s answer, I groaned with deep disappointment. “I was an altar boy…” the candidate proclaimed. He then went on to commit an act of sophistry, continuing his efforts to...

Interesting post on trentonrevolution today. Linkage between last week's debate, Kerry on Terror, the 9/11 mentality ...There was a comment over the weekend by the presidential candidate for the Democrat Party, Senator John F. Kerry, which insulted the memory and sacrifice of those who made the supreme sacrifice in terrorist attacks on American and Allied targets. Senator Kerry described terrorism as a nuisance, an inconvenience. [snip] The second presidential debate between President George W. Bush and Senator John F. Kerry, was not even cold when the cadre of media opinion makers and image molders began to portray President Bush as...

Saturday, October 09, 2004 Pro-Life Witness: How It HappenedLast evening a group of seminarians dressed in clerical attire and the sweatshirts you see to the left, and laity gathered to offer a pro-life witness at the Kerry/Edwards Debate Watch Party and Rally held at the America 's Center downtown St. Louis . The group, which was about 25 in number, gathered at 5:30 pm for prayer and instructions, after that we walked to the America 's Center while praying the Stations of the Cross. When we arrived we got in line to enter the event like everyone else. Two of...

Best and Worst of the Debate Best Kerry Line of the Debate: "From the looks of the people in this audience, the only ones in this room who will be affected by the president's tax cut for the rich will be myself, the president, and Charles Gibson." Kerry's inner snob made an appearance last night at the debate. How could he tell the annual income of the audience? I guess no one was wearing Prada. One must have a trained eye for spotting designer clothes. Maybe there were no five hundred dollar haircuts like the one Kerry sports. There might...

In weak moments, I think the best ticket for this country would be Bush-Kerry. The two men balance each other out so well. Kerry can't make a decision; Bush makes them too quickly. Kerry changes his mind by the month; Bush almost never changes his mind. Kerry thinks obsessively about process questions, but can't seem to come up with a core conviction; Bush is great at coming up with clear goals, but is not so great about coming up with the process to get there. That was the striking thing about the debate on Thursday night. It wasn't so much...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 - The presidential campaign is entering a pivotal two-week period at a boil, with Senator John Kerry and President Bush battling over the Iraq war and the threat of another domestic terrorist attack, making emotion-charged arguments to set the groundwork for their first debate, on Thursday. The intensity of television advertisements broadcast this weekend - a blur of images of Osama bin Laden, Mohamed Atta and explosions on the streets of Iraq - signaled the campaigns' new phase and the importance that both sides attach to the debates, aides to the campaigns said. Mr. Kerry, arriving in...

"DEMOCRAT DELIGHT as Kerry comes out fighting" read a headline over a report from Andrew Gumbel reporting from Florida in this paper on Thursday. No doubt some democrats were delighted, but the report itself didn't show that they had much to be delighted about. The report shows that the speech made little impact on the Florida population which has at the moment somewhat more urgent personal concerns on its mind. "Nobody knows exactly where the candidates stand in Florida, since Hurricanes Charlie, Frances and Ivan have made meaningful canvassing next to impossible and have pushed politics far down the media's,...

President Bush and his surrogates are taking their re-election campaign into dangerous territory. Mr. Bush is running as the man best equipped to keep America safe from terrorists - that was to be expected. We did not, however, anticipate that those on the Bush team would dare to argue that a vote for John Kerry would be a vote for Al Qaeda. Yet that is the message they are delivering - with a repetition that makes it clear this is an organized effort to paint the Democratic candidate as a friend to terrorists. When Vice President Dick Cheney declared that...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 - It was no accident that John Kerry appeared Tuesday on "Live With Regis and Kelly'' and recalled his days as a young prosecutor in a rape case. Or that he then flew from New York to Jacksonville, Fla., to promote his health care proposals. Or that on Thursday in Davenport, Iowa, he will preside over a forum on national security with an audience solely of women. These appearances are part of an energetic drive by the Kerry campaign to win back voters that Democrats think are rightfully theirs: women. In the last few weeks, Kerry campaign...

Entertainment Weekly did a thing of fox news at both conventions, obviously mad about their success. They quoted Alan Colmes saying "We're in an entertainment medium. We're not doing rules of debate. We're putting on a show." This is what liberal critics of fox news have been saying about it. Someone should try to inform Sean Hannity of this.

At my latest campaign stop, somewhere near Lambert Field or (was it Houlihan's Stadium?), Steve Winwood's seminal anthem of the disgruntled left "Roll With It, Baby" played on the loud speaker. All of sudden I was remembered 1988, which reminded me of the Dukakis campaign. Now I can't get the Dukakis campaign out of my head. There's no rhyme or reason for it either. I am really not sure why I can't stop thinking of the Dukakis campaign. I hadn't thought of it in years but now it's all I can think about. There doesn't seem to be any real...
