When I heard this on the radio on the drive home the first thing I thought was, I’ll bet they’re democrats (socialist) and huge Obama supporters. Walter Kendall Myers, 72, aided by his wife Gwendolyn Myers, 71, used his Top Secret security clearance to pass on classified information to the Cuban government and at one point met with Cuban leader Fidel Castro, according to court documents. The two were charged with conspiracy to act as illegal agents of the Cuban government and to communicate classified information to Cuba, the Justice Department said. They were also charged with wire fraud and...

Here is audio of Democrat Rep. John Conyers revealing some discontent with President Obama from his Left as he talked to liberal Bill Press. Conyers said frankly, "I'm getting tired of saving Obama's can. He only won by five votes in the House, and this bill wasn't even anything to write home about." . . . (AUDIO)

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--Two top House Democrats requested Tuesday that the Congressional Research Service conduct an analysis into whether recent legislation to strip federal funds from community-organizing group Acorn is unconstitutional. U.S. Reps, John Conyers (D-Detroit) and Barney Frank (D-Mass.) on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Congressional Research Service requesting an investigation of ACORN, the anti-poverty group whose employees in Baltimore recently were caught on hidden camera offering questionable advice to conservative activists posing as a prostitute and pimp. In the letter, Conyers and Frank ask the nonpartisan research group to look into ACORN's alleged misbehavior, including funding violations and alleged voter registration irregularities. But they also question whether Congress' swift move to cut the group's funding was unconstitutional. Specifically, Conyers and Frank ask whether the funding cuts qualify as...

Oversight: As the Senate votes to de-fund Acorn, add pimping, tax evasion and human trafficking to voter fraud paid for with taxpayer dollars and you have an organized criminal enterprise. It's time to investigate. After Acorn workers were caught on tape in three cities allegedly abetting what they believed was a fraudulent-mortgage and sex-trafficking scheme, the Senate has voted overwhelmingly to strip the group of funding in the Transportation/Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill. The amendment, offered by Nebraska Republican Sen. Mike Johanns, passed by an 83-to-7 margin and marked the third time this year that Republicans have tried to block...

Here is video of House Democrat Rep. John Conyers flatly saying he will not support any Health Care Bill without a "Public Option." Conyers says he wants a "single-payer" system (euphemism for Total Government Take Over of Health Care), but he will compromise and take a "Public Option." Conyers was talking to Ed Schultz and went even further. Conyers cites the "math" in the House, and bluntly says Obama "cannot get to 218 in the House without a "Public Option." . . . (VIDEO)

For more than two years, House Judiciary Committee Democrats and the New York Times editorial board have argued that I personally arranged for Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman to be prosecuted in 2004 for corruption and ordered the removal of eight U.S. attorneys in 2006 for failing to investigate Democrats. The Washington Post editorial board also echoed this last charge. The Times and the Post have published a combined 18 editorials on these issues, which were also catnip to House Judiciary Committee Democrats. Politico's Ryan Grimm reported last year overhearing the Committee's chairman, John Conyers of Michigan, tell two others, "We're...

Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) said that he is a supporter of Sarah Palin's apparent leadership of the Republican Party. "As a supporter of Sarah Palin for taking over the Republican Party, I’m one of her great advocates," said Conyers. "I mean, what an attractive, young, neoconservative reactionary! Wow! There’s never been one like her." “She attracts crowds. She’s going to write a book,” he said. “She’s so busy she can’t – she doesn’t have enough time to govern Alaska. ‘Hey, let’s get ready for the big one when we go back in and take on Obama.’ I want to encourage...

“I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill.’ What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?” - U.S Representative John Conyers (D-MI, 14th District) I have to admit I have a soft spot in my heart for John Conyers, who in a now-famous video performance declared his hatred for reading, reading of bills proposed for consideration in the House and pretty much anything having to do with performing his job in the first...

Conyers missed an opportunity in this situation to both set an example and engage in little community outreach. With reading this particular bill becoming such a big issue, he could have joined with a literacy advocacy group such as RIF (Reading Is Fundamental), and gotten individuals or corporate entities to sponsor his reading of the Health Care bill. He could have even read selections from the bill on his wife’s local television show. All the money that could have been raised from this stunt could have gone to non-profits that help get kids excited about reading. He didn’t do this....

(CNSNews.com) - At a recent National Press Club luncheon, House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) sarcastically said he is “a supporter of Sarah Palin” and “one of her great advocates.” Palin, the GOP vice presidential candidate in 2008, recently resigned as governor of Alaska. “As a supporter of Sarah Palin for taking over the Republican Party, I’m one of her great advocates,” said Conyers. “I mean, what an attractive, young, neoconservative reactionary! Wow! There’s never been one like her.”

President Obama is pushing Congress to pass health care legislation that could nationalize as much as 10 percent of the economy. Most members of Congress will vote on this bill with no idea what's in it. Rep. John Conyers Jr., Michigan Democrat, disparaged lawmakers for even pretending to read the laws they pass. "I love these members, they get up and say, 'Read the bill,' " he said last week at the National Press Club. "What good is reading the bill if it's a thousand pages and you don't have two days and two lawyers to find out what it...

Conyers Sees No Point in Members Reading 1,000-Page Health Care Bill--Unless They Have 2 Lawyers to Interpret It for Them Monday, July 27, 2009 By Nicholas Ballasy, Video Reporter (CNSNews.com) - During his speech at a National Press Club luncheon, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Democratic Congressman John Conyers (D-Mich.), questioned the point of lawmakers reading the health care bill. “I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill,’” said Conyers. “What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what...

DETROIT (AP) - A former aide to U.S. Rep. John Conyers has been arrested in Africa after skipping his sentencing on a federal fraud conviction, federal authorities said. DeWayne Boyd, 49, formerly of Detroit, was arrested Friday in Accra, Ghana, said Daniel D. Roberts, special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit Field Office. Boyd is a former aide to Willie Brown when he was the speaker of the California Assembly. Boyd was arrested on a warrant for failing to appear at the April sentencing hearing on convictions of mail fraud, making false declarations under oath, making false statements to...

Congressman John Conyers Jr has had a very rough week, his wife, a member of the Detroit City Council pleaded guilty Friday to a felony charge of conspiracy to commit bribery, not only did she have to resign her office but she faces up to five years in prison. She was also implicated in another potential bribery case involving a controversial deep injection waste well near Romulus. Here is the coincidence, in 2003 and 2004, before Monica Conyers was elected, John Conyers and his staff raised environmental concerns about the well project. Monica Conyers' former aide, Sam Riddle, told The...

Well, we have a couple Democrat scandals coming across the plate courtesy of John Conyers and John Edwards. Oh, and in case you were distracted by all the Michael Jackson music video tributes, terrorists are still killing people and the Iranians are still dying on the streets. Beyond that, our one-party "democratic" system is taking huge strides to shove universal healthcare and Cap and Tax legislation down the unwilling throats of Americans. Here are your Sunday digg suggestions. If we missed anything you think should be on the list, let us know! http://diggsandburies.blogspot.com/

DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Synagro investigation involving Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers may be starting to cause trouble for Conyers' husband, John, who heads the House Judiciary Committee in Washington. A government watchdog group says it is "ironic and unseemly" that Rep. Conyers is leading impeachment action on the House floor against a federal judge while his wife is under federal investigation in connection with bribes allegedly paid to her for a $1.2 billion sewage sludge contract. Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, says Conyers shouldn't have oversight over the Justice Department, which reportedly is engaged in plea bargaining...

Conyers to hold hearings on 'torture' memos By Jared Allen Posted: 04/21/09 06:07 PM [ET] House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) on Tuesday announced that he will soon hold hearings on the Bush administration’s legal memos justifying the use of numerous enhanced interrogation techniques. Conyers and other Democrats have labeled as torture the techniques explained in the memos, which provide a legal framework for the use of controversial interrogation practices such as waterboarding. President Obama recently declassified the memos written by Bush administration lawyers, which also detail for the first time a number of additional interrogation techniques approved for...

Even if Democrats don’t agree with Barack Obama on everything, who among them would challenge a president with a 73 percent approval rating? He’ll soon find out. Sooner or later, the bonhomie of Obama’s Inauguration will dissipate — and the novelty of having a soul mate in the Oval Office will give way to intense internal debates over the extent and substance of Democratic change. Either that, or some people will just get on Obama’s nerves. The president’s friends might not become his enemies. But here are 10 Democrats — and some runners-up — who could soon find themselves on...

Why are Democrats such liars? I know that sounds harsh, but this penchant for labeling a law, act, or bill with a lie as a title is gallingly Orwellian and it's getting tiresome. We have the "Employee Free Choice Act" that takes away employee choice, the "Freedom of Choice Act" that takes away the freedom NOT to chose abortion, and now we have the "Fair Copyright in Research Works Act" that takes away the public's fair access to scientific research papers without having to first spend a ton of money to access it. In all the three laws above noted,...

In my opinion, the cultural war between secular-progressives and traditional Americans will become a violent, bloody war if the Democrats in Congress try to criminalize policy differences by trying to punish members of the Bush Administration for attempting (and succeeding) to protect American lives. Obama isn’t saying much, although he appointed Holder, but Pelosi, Conyers, Reid, Holder and others are mouthing some very dangerous thoughts. As a minimum, practices that were originated by Carter and Clinton and merely continued by the Bush Administration (such as rendition and warrantless wiretapping) will be given much publicity, and, beyond that, some of us...

Judiciary Chairman Conyers Issues Report Documenting Bush Abuses, Calling For Further Committee Investigation, Blue-Ribbon Panel, and Criminal Probes For Immediate Release January 13, 2009 Contact: Jonathan Godfrey, Lillian German (Washington, D.C.) -- Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. released a nearly-500 page report documenting numerous abuses and excesses of the Bush administration. Recommendations include calls for continued committee investigation, a blue ribbon commission...

Citing a lack of experience, Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) is leading an effort to thwart Barack Obama’s expected nomination of CNN’s Sanjay Gupta to become surgeon general. But there are also indications that Conyers’s opposition is linked to a 2007 public clash between Gupta and the liberal filmmaker Michael Moore. The House Judiciary Committee chairman doesn’t have a vote, or a formal role, in the anticipated Gupta nomination. Yet, he is lobbying the Senate and the incoming president to reject Gupta. In a “Dear Colleague” letter on Wednesday, Conyers — a major proponent of universal healthcare — denounced Gupta...

Karl Rove, President Bush's longtime political guru, refused to obey an order to testify before a House Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday. Rove's lawyer asserted that Rove was "immune" from the subpoena the committee had issued, arguing that the committee could not compel him to testify due to "executive privilege." The panel is investigating allegations that Rove and his White House allies dismissed U.S. attorneys and prosecuted officials who they saw as political opponents. The panel subpoenaed Rove in May after his lawyer, Robert D. Luskin, made clear the former White House deputy chief of staff would not appear voluntarily. Luskin...

Add Monica Conyers's name to that list of Dems run afoul of the law whose party affiliation the MSM fails to mention. The Detroit City Council President Pro Tem, a Democrat and an Obama supporter, has made unwelcome headlines before, from getting into an argument with an eight-grader to allegedly threatening to shoot an aide to the Detroit mayor. Little-Known But Exploited Loophole Allows Politicians To Drive, Maintain Expensive Cars, SUVs On Taxpayer Money. Rep. Charles Rangel: 'My Constituents Appreciate It'. They just can't help themselves. Despite the fact that even many on the Left have acknowledged that Kucinich is Wrecking the Dem 2008 Strategy, they just can't keep themselves from marching like Leftwing Lemmings towards the Impeachment Cliff. The embarrassed House leadership sent the Dennis Kucinich resolution to the House Judiciary Committee rather than have open debate on it on the House floor. At first it was thought that the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, John Conyers, would ease Kookcinich's Dick Cheney impeachment resolution into obscurity but now it appears that might not be the case as you...

House Republicans, changing course midway through a vote, tried to force Democrats into a debate on a resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney on the grounds he purposely led the country into war against Iraq. The GOP tactics reversed what had been expected to an overwhelming vote to table, or kill, the resolution by longshot Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich. Midway through the vote, with instructions from the GOP leadership, Republicans one by one changed their votes from yes — to kill the resolution — to no, trying to force the chamber into a debate and an up-or-down vote...

(AP) WASHINGTON Democratic lawmakers said Tuesday the Jena Six case shows the government needs to do more to combat racism far beyond a small Louisiana town where charges filed after a school fight garnered national attention. "Racial discrimination in the criminal justice system is not unique to any one place, but is found in cities and towns north and south throughout our nation," House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers said as he opened a hearing into the Jena case. In Jena, six black teenagers were charged with the beating of a white student. The incident happened after nooses were hung...

On September 19, Congressman Ron Paul introduced a bill, outlawing restrictive ballot access laws for minor party and independent candidates for the U.S. House. He had previously introduced this bill in past sessions of Congress. Before he had done so, a somewhat more comprehensive bill had been introduced by Congressman John Conyers (D-Michigan), in 1985, 1987 and 1989. Also during the early 1990’s, the bill had been introduced by Congressman Tim Penny (D-Minnesota, no longer in Congress). Article One of the U.S. Constitution explicitly gives Congress the authority to override state election laws pertaining to Congressional elections. Ron Paul’s bill...

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan (SHEE'-han) is scheduled to be in Philadelphia today (Tuesday) at a rally calling for the impeachment of President Bush. Yesterday (Monday), she spent an hour trying to get Congressman John Conyers to launch impeachment proceedings against Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Conyers chairs the House Judiciary Committee, where any impeachment effort would have to begin. She says Conyers told her there aren't enough votes for impeachment to move forward on the issue. Sheehan says with the Democrats not holding the administration accountable, she's planning to run for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's seat. She was 1...

The impeachment movement is gaining traction, and now - over the next two weeks - is the time to push it all the way to success. Over the weekend, supporters of impeachment made "Impeach Cheney" the number 1 video on Youtube. On Friday, for the first time, a polling company asked Americans if they want Cheney impeached. A majority of 54% said Yes, and the poll was reported in the media. Congressman John Conyers even cited it on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday. On July 4, the day of throwing off King Georges, an Impeach Bush and Cheney petition passed...

Reps. Charles Rangel (D., N.Y.) and John Conyers (D., Mich.) have pushed some bad ideas before, but their new proposal--to bring back the Vietnam era in the form of a military draft--is far and away the worst. Attempting to play both the race and class-warfare cards, the congressmen said the U.S. "must debate whether it should continue with a fighting force comprised disproportionately of people from low-income families and minorities." In another burst of unconscionable demagoguery, they also say that the burden of defending the country is resting too heavily on the shoulders of the poor and minorities.

Meeting Assembled By Conyers Mulls Seeking Bush's Impeachment Over Iraq Thu Mar 13 2003 10:30:03 ET House Judiciary ranking member John Conyers (D-Mich.) assembled more than two-dozen prominent liberal attorneys and legal scholars on Tuesday to mull over articles of impeachment drafted against President Bush by activists seeking to block military action against Saddam Hussein. Some congressional leaders will push for President Bush's impeachment now that the Democrats have taken control of the House and possibly the Senate, former New York Mayor Ed Koch predicts. "I expect that [Rep. John] Conyers as chairman [of the House Judiciary Committee], now with great freedom, will do anything he can to commence such impeachment or investigatory activity, and we'll see whether Pelosi will prevent it," Koch says. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in line to become the first female speaker of the House of Representatives in U.S. history, has said that impeachment proceedings against Bush are "off the table," according...

A House Judiciary Committee Web page asking former and current Justice Department officials to offer their stories on politicization of the department "launched prematurely," but is still legitimate, Democratic Chairman John Conyers said Thursday. The response came after Texas Rep. Lamar Smith demanded the new page be removed from the committee Web site, and called it a partisan attempt to persecute the Bush administration and misuse taxpayer dollars for a witch-hunt. Conyers said the attacks by House Republicans over the page are creating a "sideshow and a distraction" from the real issue — the firings of eight U.S. attorneys last...

The Senate Democrats’ failure to push through a simple vote of no-confidence in Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, following on the heels of the Democratic Congress’s abject surrender on the issue of continued funding of the Iraq War and occupation, make it clear that the only appropriate course of action for the balance of 110th Congress is impeachment. The vaunted hearings that incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid promised when they took control of Congress after the November election have come to nothing, as the president and his cabinet officers stonewall and ignore subpoenas. Moreover, it...

Conyers' 'Hate Grandma' bill introduced in House Posted: March 27, 20071:00 a.m. Eastern It's all about hate. And judging by the introduction of H.R. 1592, Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., must hate free speech. He must hate equality. And he must hate…grandma. And I think it's a crime. You see, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee just introduced the "Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act" which would not only restrict our speech and remove equal justice, but it would give senior citizens (and the rest of us) less protection than homosexual activists. So, if you're going to mug someone,...
