  • Internal Emails Show NCAA Questioned Authority to Sanction Penn State

To recap: these emails reveal that the NCAA knew it had no jurisdictional claim over an inherently criminal matter but chose to act anyway, banking on Penn State’s compliance. Of course, the rest is history — Penn State President Rodney Erickson, with the backing of Board of Trustees leadership, did comply to the NCAA’s extortion, despite it being characterized here as a “bluff.” The actual reasons for that decision are still hidden behind a wall of public relations flack — I tend to think it had something to do with the corporate “apologize and move on” method of management that...
  • No One In Los Angeles Appears To Know Who Joe Biden Is

    The Daily Caller ^ | October 7, 2014 | Jamie Weinstein
Joe Biden is in Los Angeles this week, but someone ought to tell him that he shouldn’t expect to be recognized by too many of the locals. During his ABC show Monday, late night host Jimmy Kimmel aired a rather funny video of one of his staff asking Angelenos to identify Biden. Not a single one of those interviewed (which, in fairness, was slightly less than the entire population of Los Angeles) knew Biden was the Vice President of the United States. We’re not sure if the segment is a testament to deceptive film-making, the irrelevance of Biden, the stupidity...

“Sen. Lamar Alexander has voted with President Barack Obama 62 percent of the time. I have voted with him 0 percent of the time,” U.S. Senate Candidate Gordon Ball said after learning that the TNGOP had launched a website and video attacking him as ‘another vote for Obama. “I have said consistently that Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell and Lamar Alexander should be replaced. If we want to change Washington, we have to change the people in Washington.” (SNIP) Ball, who has been campaigning this past week in Memphis and upper east Tennessee will be in Nashville this week for the...

IN HINDSIGHT, Joe Paterno wrote, the day after he got fired with a phone call, he wished he had done more. He had not committed a crime, he had not witnessed a crime, he had reported what sounded like a crime to his superiors. The haters jumped all over that sentence, like it was some kind of a confession that the legendary Penn State football coach had somehow enabled Jerry Sandusky to sexually abuse those kids, while he looked the other way. The haters spent a lot less time debating the note he scribbled on a pad before going to...

Authorities are investigating the deaths of 20 dogs at Green Acre Kennel, in Gilbert, Arizona. The place had billed itself as a "Doggie Disneyland" promising plenty of land for dogs to run free with no cages. To Ryan Ingraham and his wife, it sounded like a great place to board their two black Labradors while they took a vacation. Ingraham had contacted MaLeisa and Todd Hughes, owners of the business, two months ago. Then about a week ago, he decided to take the dogs to the Hughes' house for a trial run.

As the owners of 20 dogs wait for answers as to why their pets died at a Gilbert boarding service, Fox 10 News has learned that the son and daughter-in-law of US Senator Jeff Flake were tasked with caring for the dogs while the boarding house’s owners were out of town. It was originally believed there were 17 dogs, but Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says 20 dogs died at the facility. MCSO said it appears one of the dogs chewed through a wire that powered the air-conditioning in the section of the home where the dogs were kept.
  • Arpaio endorses Horne's re-election campaign

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has endorsed Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne's re-election campaign. The sheriff said Monday that he endorsed Horne because he's impressed with his record as attorney general, particular his efforts to confront illegal immigration. Horne faces former Arizona Department of Gaming director Mark Brnovich in the GOP primary.

Retiring Sen. Tom Coburn lashed out at outside groups’ ads attacking Rep. James Lankford in the Oklahoma GOP primary to replace him next year, calling them untruthful and representative of politics in its “very worst form.” Coburn singled out negative ads by Senate Conservatives Fund and Oklahomans for a Conservative Future aimed at boosting the candidacy of tea party darling T.W. Shannon, the former state House speaker who’s drawn the support of national conservatives like Sarah Palin and Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah).

The shock waves from the defeat of the second highest-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives in a primary election will be felt far beyond the US political epicentre in Washington. (SNIP)This all comes a week before Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore lands in Washington to lead the latest Government lobbying efforts on behalf of the so-called undocumented Irish. He is scheduled to meet Republican congressman Mick Mulvaney and Mark Amodei, who have strong Tea Party leanings, and Mario Díaz-Balart, who has tried for years to push his party into taking on the immigration issue. Have you seen the front page of the Las Vegas Sun website today? Erin Bilbray’s liberal activist friends over at Occupy CIR have literally covered it with attack ads against Dr. Joe Heck over his stance on immigration reform. Joe has been clear that we need real solutions to improve our broken immigration system – but he will NOT be bullied into amnesty by Erin Bilbray and her liberal activist friends. We cannot let Erin Bilbray and her liberal activist friends get away with these purely partisan attacks!
  • 2016 Contenders Flock to Nebraska’s Open Governor’s Race

One small governor's race has turned into a cattle call for potential 2016 presidential candidates: Nebraska. Specifically, one candidate in the Cornhusker State is getting outsized attention from talked-about Republican presidential contenders. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, 2012 vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas have all endorsed Omaha businessman Pete Ricketts ahead of Tuesday's primary. As potential candidates work to woo Republican mega-donors, the contest offers presidential contenders entrée with a billionaire sugar daddy of the most literal variety: Joe Ricketts, the TD Ameritrade-founding, Chicago Cubs-owning billionaire who also happens to be...

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, at once hailed and reviled as America’s toughest sheriff, sauntered into famously liberal Hollywood on Wednesday, traveling hundreds of miles from his home turf and disconcerting legal problems in Arizona to promote a documentary that offers, at best, an unflattering portrayal of his troubled 21 years in office. Mr. Arpaio took the filmmaker’s invitation to attend the documentary’s screening at the Beverly Hills Film Festival as a chance for vindication, his shot at setting straight a record he only selectively embraces. Pink underwear for inmates held in the jails he oversees in Maricopa County? “There’s nothing degrading...

On Wednesday the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition hosted a discussion about immigration reform at the Chicago Club. Republican leaders shared their support for reform, including former U.S. House Speaker Denny Hastert, former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, State Senator Christine Radogno, State Representative Jim Durkin, State Comptroller Judy Barr Topinka, State Rep. Tom Cross, State Senator Jim Oberweis, and ILGOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner. Outside, a group opposing amnesty, protested the meeting. One of the protesters was radio personality Joe Walsh, who criticized the event at "that fancy club across the street," saying those who would be speaking are the "elite...

Remembering Joe Paterno’s 1983 Board of Trustees Speech “Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?” When I visit Joe Paterno’s gravesite, as I have done on occasion over the last two years when I’m in need of some ethereal inspiration or peace, I’m always struck by the above line from Robert Browning on his headstone. The message speaks to the profound impact of Paterno as an academic visionary, and there’s a specific moment that comes to mind when I think of it. It was just days after the school’s first football National Championship,...

The White House, in damage control after a blistering memoir by former Defense Secretary Robert Gates went public, insisted that a full slate of events between President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden was not meant to prop up Biden. In a rare move, the White House opened up the weekly lunch between Obama and Biden to photographers Wednesday, prompting speculation that the administration was trying to gloss over a brutal 24 hours for Obama’s number two. “You can decide for yourself what you want to believe,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said Wednesday, calling the timing of the...

The family of Joe Paterno had a partial victory today as Judge John Leete, ruling over its lawsuit against the NCAA, permitted parts of it to move forward. The family, along with various former coaches, trustees, and players, brought forth a lawsuit challenging various aspects of the NCAA’s sanctions against Penn State and their effects on the community. The judge ruled that the plaintiffs couldn’t pursue breach-of-contract claims over the NCAA because of Penn State’s binding agreement with the NCAA. Penn State has shown it wants nothing to do with this lawsuit and is not a party, and the judge...
