An analysis by the Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan fiscal watchdog, estimates that President Biden’s $1.75 trillion expansion of the federal safety net could kill more than 103,000 jobs over the next decade and add $750 billion to the federal deficit. The estimate is based on a thorough analysis of the White House’s spending “framework” and the corresponding 1,684-page bill text released by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat. Experts from the Tax Foundation say the proposal will fall far short of White House promises. “We estimate that the House bill would reduce long-run economic output by nearly 0.4% and eliminate...

Joe Biden mumbled through two masks during a meeting in the Oval Office with labor leaders on Wednesday. .... Snip.... Biden met with labor leaders to discuss Covid relief and infrastructure. Joe Biden is going to produce the “shovel ready jobs” that Barack Obama promised many years ago which actually turned out to be a “shovel-ready” swindle. "I think we have an incredible opportunity to make some enormous progress in creating jobs, good-paying jobs,” Biden said after killing more than 60,000 jobs his first day in office. WATCH:

Twenty states are raising their minimum wage rates — some by pennies, others by a dollar or more — as part of previously-scheduled efforts to adjust for cost-of-living gains or to ratchet up toward goals like $15-an-hour minimum pay.In New Mexico, the minimum wage will increase to $10.50, up $1.50 from the current $9 wage. And in California, the rate for employers with 26 workers or more will rise from $13 to $14 an hour, the highest state-wide baseline in the country. In Minnesota, the gain is just 8 cents, to a $10.08 hourly rate for large employers.

Gov. Jerry Brown says he has a message for Republican governors planning to visit California to woo business from the state: Welcome. Florida Gov. Rick Scott is the latest governor to say he’s planning a recruiting trip to California. A letter he sent to shipping companies in California takes shots at Brown’s “tax and spend administration.” […] Brown says California has done the opposite of what Republicans advocate. He says the state is tackling climate change, immigration reform and taxing high-income people, and the state is prospering. …

Tens of thousands of Minnesota workers have big raises coming their way, courtesy of a new minimum wage law that Gov. Mark Dayton signed Monday, which will take the state from one of the nation’s lowest rates to among the highest. At a ceremony in the Capitol’s Rotunda, Dayton hailed the hourly jump of more than $3 spread over the next few years as providing “what’s fair” for hard work put in. He said he has been stunned by GOP resistance—it passed the Legislature with only Democratic votes—to increasing the guaranteed wage from $6.15 per hour now to $9.50 by...

‘They said this would be a disaster in terms of jobs,” President Obama shouted on Thursday. “There is no widespread evidence that the Affordable Care Act is hurting jobs.” At least 30,377 Americans would beg to differ. Amid their new, Obamacare-generated non-working hours, they might observe that “no widespread evidence” is hardly a categorical denial. Either Obama flat-out yelled lies at a rally in Largo, Md., or he occupies a bubble as airtight as the International Space Station. Perhaps Obama is encircled by yes persons who insulate him from evidence — “widespread” or otherwise — of the increasing cruelty that...

Big business sees California's global-warming law as a job killer, a $1 billion tax that could force some of the state's heaviest industries to flee. ..state regulators, trying to ease the burden, are studying whether to give hardship breaks to dozens of companies. ....the state would dole out extra carbon credits – the precious allowances that will give industries the license to emit greenhouse gases starting in January.... could save companies millions of dollars. Like practically everything connected with..the Global Warming Solutions Act, the idea is controversial. ..."We're … concerned about the system being gamed," said Kathryn Phillips, director of...

Gasoline was selling for $3.33 a gallon, Jerry Brown was attorney general, and California was bracing for a budget crisis when the state's hourly minimum wage rose to $8 in early 2008. Fast forward to now, and much has changed: Gas is almost a dollar higher, Brown is governor, and the state is reeling from years of red ink. But the minimum wage hasn't budged a cent. New legislation would change that, ensuring future increases for the state's lowest-wage workers while letting lawmakers evade political heat by taking the hot-button issue out of their hands. Assembly Bill 1439 by Assemblyman...

As many states move forward with pro-growth spending and tax reforms, a couple of state legislatures are taking steps in the opposite direction. Legislators in Virginia and Kansas are advancing bills that seek to dissolve the physical nexus standard in their respective states and implement an Internet sales tax on out-of-state companies. This type of tax will not only kill jobs and close down businesses, as it has done in other states, but it is also entirely unconstitutional. In Kansas, SB 371 moves to push the long arm of the tax collector past its appropriate state boundary and count third-party...

In the Republican presidential candidate debates this weekend, Mitt Romney repeated his claim that he is an effective leader who created a "net net" of 100,000 jobs while he was working in the private sector. But three recent reports, by the Los Angeles Times, the Associated Press and by Fact Check.org, the nonprofit nonpartisan project run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania say that the Romney campaign has yet to offer convincing proof to back up the claim. ... It hardly seems plausible to suggest that he created the positions that make up the current...

(CNN) -- President Barack Obama signed legislation Friday that will overhaul the U.S. patent system for the first time since 1952. "We have to do everything we can to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit wherever we find it," Obama said at a signing ceremony at a high school in Arlington, Virginia. This measure "cuts away the red tape that slows down our inventors and entrepreneurs." Obama used the occasion to promote his $447 billion jobs plan, calling patent reform a "part of our (larger) agenda for making us competitive over the long term." Among other things, the measure, dubbed the America...

Texas energy company Luminant announced on Monday new burdensome Environmental Protection Agency regulations are forcing it to close several facilities, which will result in about 500 job losses. The company will be idling — stopping the usage of — two energy generating units. It will also cease extracting lignite from three different Texas mines. The EPA regulation Luminant cites as too burdensome is the new Cross-State Air Pollution rule, which requires Texas power generators to make “dramatic reductions” in emissions beginning on January 1, 2012. “We have hundreds of employees who have spent their entire professional careers at Luminant and...

Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg has made the California Chamber of Commerce's "job killer" bill list five years running. So it was little surprise that the Sacramento Democrat couldn't recall Thursday ever having stood next to chamber President and CEO Allan Zaremberg at a Capitol news conference before. "I think that was the first time," Steinberg said afterward. "Hopefully it won't be the last." With one week left in the legislative session, Democrats rolled out a last-minute proposal that requires additional review of new state regulations, backed by the chamber and the California Manufacturers and Technology Association. The fact...

Since day one of the Obama administration, I’ve chronicled Loathsome Cowboy Ken Salazar’s War on the West, War on Jobs, and War on Science/ Rule of Law as head of the Interior Department. His eco-radical sidekick Carol Browner is gone, yet Salazar remains in place. Federal judge after federal judge has spanked Salazar and Obama’s job-destroying eco-nitwits for lawlessly and fraudulently imposing their junk-science drilling ban . Salazar spearheaded the pulling of scores of oil leases by invoking bogus eco-claims and has presided over an expansive land grab through administrative fiat. Yesterday, yet another federal judge smacked Obama/Salazar and the...

Each year, the state Chamber of Commerce publishes a list of bills it calls "job killers," saying they will place onerous burdens on employers and discourage hiring -- and has run up a very strong record in killing or neutralizing measures on its list. Last year, for instance, the list contained 43 bills, of which just 12 made it to then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's desk, and he vetoed all but two of them. Republican Schwarzenegger rarely signed "job killer" bills, although his predecessor, Democrat Gray Davis, signed most that reached him. The targeted bills are mostly sponsored by labor unions, environmental...

California, which is still mired in its worst recession since the Great Depression, has the nation's third-worst job market, ...These states continue to suffer from the housing crash and financial debacle that was part of the recession." ...The Gallup report is another dose of bad economic news for California, which has shed well over a million jobs since the recession began, has a stubborn 12-plus percent unemployment rate, owes the federal government more than $10 billion for unemployment insurance loans, and faces a state budget deficit or more than $25 billion.

> What a moron! Who is that grinning fool on the left (clapping his hands)? President Barack Obama made some concessions to the business community in his State of the Union address Tuesday, saying he'd like to lower the corporate tax rate and foster U.S. job growth and innovation. Many chief executives reacted skeptically to President Barack Obama's offer to lower the corporate-tax rate and foster U.S. job growth, but some said they appreciated the president's changed tone toward business during his State of the Union address. President Obama was applauded by Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker John Boehner...
