(VIDEO-AT-LINK)Jim Gilchrist — one of the founders of the Minutemen Project — said he’s reaching out across America to recruit at least 3,500 volunteers who will go to the border to patrol and cover the “porous areas” between San Diego and Brownsville, Texas. The campaign is called “Operation Normandy,” and it’s set for May 1, 2015, Raw Story reported. “If you are familiar with the Normandy invasion of France in 1944, then you have an idea how large and logistically complicated this event will be,” Mr. Gilchrist said, Raw Story reported. “However, there is one difference. We are not going...
  • Drop in Illegal Immigration Numbers Inflames Activists

Feb. 12) -- The population of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has fallen by 1 million in the past two years due to a combination of the recession and increased law enforcement, according to the latest estimate by the Department of Homeland Security. While activists largely agree that the influx of illegal immigrants is at a welcome ebb, some vehemently contest the accuracy of the agency's figures and remain bitterly divided on what impact they should have on the country's immigration policy going forward.

<snip> Chris Simcox is the president of one of the largest Minuteman Project spin-off groups, the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC). Chris and MCDC split away from Jim Gilchrist's Minuteman Project over two years ago to become a "project" of Declaration Alliance. Chris hired a slick Washington Consulting company (Diener and Associates) to handle MCDC's finances and raise money for the organization. Before Simcox knew it was happening, he had lost control of his organization to a DC beltway insider's coalition. They took control of MCDC's parent corporation after Simcox was convicted of a weapons violation on Federal land. For the...

SAN FRANCISCO -- About a dozen members of the Minutemen, a group that patrols the U.S.-Mexican border in an effort to keep illegal immigrants out, stood on the steps of San Francisco's City Hall today to decry the city's sanctuary policy and demand that Mayor Gavin Newsom resign. They waved signs calling Newsom, District Attorney Kamala Harris and William Siffermann, head of the city's Juvenile Probation Department, "accessories to murder" for the city's now-reversed policy of not turning over illegal immigrant youths arrested for felonies to federal authorities for possible deportation. One Salvadoran immigrant who benefited from the policy, Edwin...

Anti-illegal immigration group struggling as chapters disband, donations slow "We've lost the battle," said Minuteman project founder Jim Gilchrist. "My intuition tells me … this entire movement will fizzle to nothing by the end of the year." Gilchrist, a former California accountant, founded the project in October 2004. In two years, the grass-roots border-control group had grown to boast more than 200 chapters across the country. Today, Gilchrist says, a host of internal problems are bringing the movement to its knees. More than 20 chapters, including the Skokie-based Illinois Minuteman project, have disbanded, leaving fewer than 180 in operation. Dozens...

... Yes, Bill Buckley was a true conservative leader. We will miss him as we miss Reagan. But no, the conservative movement is far from dead. It's just had some of its pseudo-conservative dead weight removed... There's a sifting going on, and the conservative movement is still being sifted as those who clamor for last-minute political favor have endorsed the candidate who stands for LESS of what they say they believe. People we trusted. People we loved. But as I've told Gov. Huckabee repeatedly as leader after leader turned their back on the only guy who embraced their beliefs: God...

Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) reintroduced the Secure Fence Act Wednesday, which requires the construction of double-layered fencing along America's Southern land border within six months. "Securing our Southern land border remains one of our nation's greatest priorities," said Hunter, who dropped out of the presidential race on Saturday. "When the Secure Fence Act was enacted more than one year ago, the American people were pleased to see that the necessary steps were finally being taken to secure the dangerous and problematic smuggling corridors that exist along our border with Mexico," he said. "Instead of adhering to the law and building...

COLUMBIA, S.C. --"I'm sad for my Dad," Tony Thompson was saying after plopping down in a booth at the bar of the downtown Hilton. I had been sitting there with Howie Morgan, a sometime campaign hand in Tennessee Republican campaigns and a supporter this time around of Mike Huckabee, who had just finished second to the now fully resurgent John McCain in the South Carolina Republican primary. Having spotted Thompson earlier on a cell phone outside the hotel, I had asked him to join us. It was only about 10 o'clock on Saturday night, but Tony's party was clearly over....
  • Tancredo's impact: GOP race, country more mean-spirited (Laughable barf alert)

I'll admit it. I underestimated Tom Tancredo. I underestimated the impact he could make as a presidential candidate, particularly as a candidate who was polling, as many of us had predicted, around 2 percent. And yet, I had no idea he could take one issue and, with it, help make the Republican presidential race - and the country itself - an uglier, nastier and more mean-spirited place to be. He didn't do it by himself, of course. He wasn't even the lead player. You have to give that role to Lou Dobbs and the huge audience on his team. Still,...

While ABCÂ’s Chris Cuomo played softball with Columbia University president Lee Bollinger on the upcoming speech of Iranian president Ahmadinejad, CNNÂ’s John Roberts directed tough questions to John Coatsworth, dean for ColumbiaÂ’s School of International and Public Affairs. Roberts opened the interview with a question which summarized AhmadinejadÂ’s record. "Here's a leader who's advocated the destruction of Israel, denied the Holocaust, and is accused by our government, the United States government, of supplying both fighters and equipment to insurgents in Iraq, to kill U.S. troops. Why would you ever want him on your campus?" Coatsworth appeared during the 7 am...

Today I spoke to Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minuteman Project. The most striking part of the interview was how mild his views on immigration truly were. The man has been vilified by most of the Left and even much of the Right, including the White House. He’s supposed to be an immigrant-hating vigilante who dreams of dead Mexicans at night. Instead, he’s an intelligent, mild-mannered person with very reasonable proposals that include supporting a limited H1b temporary visa program for skilled workers and about 200,000 legal immigrants annually. We also covered the War of Terror, U.S. Presidential elections,...

Minuteman Project co-founder Jim Gilchrist was confronted by three associates who had been his closest allies when he arrived at his group's headquarters in Lake Forest in late January. "Jim," said Marvin Stewart, "the board has terminated you as president." Gilchrist recalled that it felt like his heart sank to his stomach, prompting him to instinctively yell, "You're all fired." "No, Jim, you are fired," Stewart said.

America's college campuses, once thought to be bastions of free speech, have become increasingly intolerant toward the practice. Visiting speakers whose views do not conform to the prevailing left-leaning political mind-set on most campuses are at particular risk of having their free speech rights infringed upon. While academia has its own crimes to atone for, it's the students who have become the bullies as of late. A disturbing number seem to feel that theirs is an inviolate world to which no one of differing opinion need apply. As a result, everything from pie throwing to disrupting speeches to attacks on...

To: The Columbia University administration and President Lee Bollinger On October 4, the College Republicans at Columbia University hosted Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist. The Minutemen are known for inciting racist violence against immigrants. In an exercise of free speech, students unfurled a banner on the stage reading "No One is Illegal", prompting audience members to join them on the stage with another banner with the message, "No to Racism". These peaceful protesters were violently assaulted. We fully support these students' courageous stand against racism and violence and demand that no reprisals are taken against them. To: President Lee Bollinger, Columbia University I thought of writing you a letter, but my experience with people as important as you is they seldom answer their mail. So I thought it better to make this a public letter. Those who agree with me can make copies of this and send them in. Let’s review. On 6 October, there was a planned speech by three representatives of the Minuteman Project, an organization which believes that immigration should be legal, and that illegal immigration should be stopped. They were invited by a recognized student group, and Columbia said it would take...

There is but one thing more disgusting than the video of campus officials and police standing by as student thugs viciously silenced Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrist and the Columbia University students who assembled to hear him speak. That is the unconscionable attempt by Columbia University administrators and the thugs to blame the blatant assault on the First Amendment on the victims whose rights were violated, Gilchrist and his associate Marvin Stewart, and the College Republicans who hosted the two men on campus. Quite simply, during Gilchrist’s speech, a group of chanting demonstrators suddenly leaped on the stage, unfurled a banner,...

The Minutemen border-watch group is coming to New York to demand that the federal government tighten security at our borders – and to promote an eye-opening new book co-authored by Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrist. President George Bush once referred to Minutemen volunteers as "vigilantes," but the book promises to give the group "a chance to respond, and to change the nature of the illegal immigration debate in the process,” according to a release from the group. "Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders" is written by Gilchrist and "Unfit for Command" co-author Jerome Corsi. The book hits stores nationwide on...

Here's a very good short video with Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist and Unfit for Command author Jerome Corsi at the US/Mexico border in CA. They're discussing their upcoming book Minutemen and the federal government's refusal to fund the Border Patrol. The film is shot in front of a run down fence that has a huge gap next to it. It's amazing to see how unguarded and accessible the border is in this footage. After viewing this it's a wonder that the poor Border Guard agents who are out there manage to catch anyone sneaking across.
