... Lewis-Burks said she received 14 such e-mails and more than a dozen letters — including a half-pound package mailed from Alaska — making that claim despite Obama’s birth certificate showing that he was born in Hawaii. She said the anti-Obama messages might arise from racism among people who can’t accept a black president, but she believes it’s more likely the senders are misinformed. “I think it’s ignorance,” she said. “I understand ignorance and it’s not bliss — it’s sad.” ....

INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Indiana men filed a lawsuit claiming that President-elect Barack Obama is not eligible to serve as president. The suit questions whether Obama meets the constitutional requirement that the president must be a "natural born citizen." Obama's birth certificate says he was born in Hawaii, but his father was not a U.S. citizen and some have claimed the document is a fake. The U.S. Supreme Court this month refused without comment to hear a challenge to Obama's citizenship. The Indianapolis Star reports the Indiana suit was filed in Marion Superior Court in Indianapolis by Steve Ankeny, New Castle,...

Kevin Rader/Eyewitness News Indianapolis - Governor Mitch Daniels may be picking up more than he bargained for when he accepts an award in Washington D.C. Wednesday. The governor will be presented with the 2008 Public Official of the Year Award from Governing Magazine, as the Republican Party works to rebuild itself. If there was one thing Daniels has been adamant about, other than his campaign theme of change, it was in his determination to make his re-election campaign his last campaign. The biggest surprise one week after his re-election victory is that some Republicans now want Daniels to consider a...

If Barr's votes had gone to Palin and her running mate they would have won North Carolina and Indiana. North Carolina: Obama 49.9%, Palin 49.5%, Barr 0.6$ Indiana Obama 49.9%, Palin 49%, Barr 1.1% This would have been more important in a closer election, but it caught my interest when I looked the figures up.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- An American flag flown upside down is a signal of distress. At half-staff, the flag is a sign of mourning. Jeffrey Smith figures both dire conditions describe the United States now that Barack Obama has been elected president - which explains the intentionally startling appearance of the Stars and Stripes outside his house in rural Huntertown, Ind. "Ships fly their flags upside down when they're sinking, and I see that happening to our country," said the staunchly Republican Smith, 42, who considers his actions patriotic, not disrespectful. "I'm for the Bill of Rights, and I'm concerned...

Indianapolis - Lines were long and tempers flared Wednesday not to vote but to get paid for canvassing for Barack Obama. Several hundred people are still waiting to get their pay for last-minute campaigning. Police were called to the Obama campaign office on North Meridian Street downtown to control the crowd. The line was long and the crowd was angry at times. "I want my money today! It's my money. I want it right now!" yelled one former campaign worker. A former spokesman for the Obama campaign said 375 people were hired as part of the Vote Corps program and...

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin pledged to lower taxes and get big government out of the lives of everyday people in a stump speech Wednesday designed to shore up voters in the now hotly contested Indiana presidential race. Organizers were expecting 10,000 people to attend the rally at a private warehouse in Jeffersonville, a bedroom community to Louisville. Kentucky Republicans expected thousands of people from the Bluegrass state to cross the river to attend the rally. Traffic was backed up for miles on Interstate 65 going into the event — many people with tickets couldn't make...

INDIANAPOLIS -- Some Republicans are coming forward against a recent mailing by the state party linking Sen. Barack Obama to William Ayres. The flier, which was distributed this week, calls Ayres -- who was a member of the leftist radical group Weather Underground in the 1970s -- a terrorist, a radical and a friend of Obama's. It also features a 2001 quote from The New York Times from Ayres saying, "I don't regret setting the bombs. I feel we didn't do enough," directly next to a picture of Obama.

Oct. 18--NOBLESVILLE -- Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin received a warm welcome from Indiana Republicans on what is likely to be the only visit by the party's national ticket before Election Day. Approximately 20,000 people, some waiting long hours, packed Verizon Wireless Music Center to hear the Alaskan governor who has energized the party as it battles to maintain control of the White House. Palin said Hoosiers know the stakes in this election and added that the presidential debate on Wednesday between Democrat Barack Obama and her running mate, John McCain, showed voters the choice they have to make. She...

(INDIANAPOLIS) Just two weeks ago, she accused him of palling around with a terrorist, but Sarah Palin left no doubt at an impromptu press conference on Friday that she believes the Democratic nominee is acting in what he thinks is in the best interest of the country he loves. “I know Obama loves America,” Palin said on the short flight from Cincinnati to Indianapolis when asked by CBS News whether she thinks the Democratic nominee loves his country as much as she does. “I’m sure that is why he’s running for president. Claims of voter harassment in Vanderburgh County — hard to prove, possibly politically motivated and guaranteed to stir partisan passions — are starting to roll in. County Clerk Susan Kirk said Tuesday that several people have called her to report being hounded by campaign workers at their doorsteps and over the telephone. She said one man reported he was offered 25 cents to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Although none of the roughly half-dozen callers can name who allegedly harassed them, Kirk said all have said it was a person or persons who identified themselves as supporters of...

In Lake County, Indiana, ACORN turned in 5,000 new registrations. The authorities there started reviewing them, and quit after they found that the first 2,100 were all fraudulent. The mind boggles: ACORN turns in thousands of new registrations, and not a single one represents a legitimate voter.

Indiana's voter registration law, which requires a photo identification at the polls, is considered to be perhaps the strictest such law in the nation. Now, it also may prove to be the one that is the most reassuring to Hoosiers. Indeed, if there is any attempt at voter identity theft in Indiana, as is being alleged in multiple states, the Hoosier registration law may prove to be the strongest counter measure anywhere. In short, Indiana's registration law, often criticized by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Indiana Democratic Party, requires that the voter have a photo identification issued by...

Thousands of voter registration cards are in the middle of a national investigation. Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita says there's significance evidence that voter registration recruiting group ACORN submitted fraudulent voter registration cards. But this alleged voter fraud isn't expected to affect the upcoming election. "I don't like it. They need to get to the bottom of it," said registered voter Phyllis Kinard. That's what Phyllis Kinard said when she heard that allegedly the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now and other activists groups fraudulently submitted voter registration cards. "They've made up names before turning them in. They've...

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin plans to hold a rally in the Indianapolis area on Friday. Campaign officials say details are still being worked out for the rally with the Alaska governor. The visit will be Palin's first campaign stop in Indiana. GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain last visited Indiana on July 1. Palin's visit comes a little more than a week after Democratic Sen. Barack Obama held a rally at the state fairgrounds in Indianapolis. Obama has made six trips to Indiana since the May primary, and his running mate, Sen. Joseph Biden, was in southern Indiana...

KOKOMO, Ind. -- Last month, in this once-sturdy auto town of 60,000, two white women sounded off at a union hall when talk turned to politics. "I feel like a white female or a white male has fewer opportunities than the black man or the black woman because of all the special treatment and special programs they have gotten," said Marla Hightower. "If Obama is elected, what's going to happen?" "That is just stupid," Ginny McMillin, the head of her local, shot back. "People are saying 'we don't want a black man.' Shame on America for thinking that!" The exchange...

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - An investigation into voter registration fraud is under way in Lake County. Thousands of applications are in serious doubt. The activist group ACORN turned in 5,000 new registrations. But the Lake County Election Board said they've already discounted at least 2100 of them. Many had the exact same handwriting and signatures on them. One listed a person by the name of Jimmy Johns. But that turned out to be a restaurant. An attorney for ACORN said the group believes the allegations are an effort to discourage ACORN from doing their work, and to suppress votes.

A new Obama ad that will air statewide in Indiana features Barney Smith. Smith claims to be a lifelong Republican who supports Obama, in part, because he was laid off by Thomson in Marion. He blames GOP policies for his job loss. Smith is best known now for delivering a memorable line during a short speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. “We need a President who puts Barney Smith before Smith Barney,” he said, prompting cheers. As you might expect, the line is in the new commercial. It has more meaning now than when he first delivered it.

Just 26 days until the presidential election; allegations of voter registration fraud in at least 12 states, including Michigan. ACORN is known for helping lower income families get homes and aiding minorities. Now the organization is being accused of falsely registering voters. In Nevada, the Secretary of State said members from the Dallas Cowboys were falsely registered; reports say it happened in Michigan too. The probe into voter registration fraud started Tuesday in Nevada as state agents searched the office of ACORN. Traditionally the organization registers those who are economically disadvantaged and minorities. For this year’s presidential election in Michigan...

ACORN Submits 2,000 to 5,000 Fake Registration Forms in Indiana? ACORN Watch: More than 2,000 voter registration forms filed in northern Indiana's Lake County by a liberal activist group this week have turned out to be bogus, election officials said Thursday. The group — the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN — already faces allegations of filing fraudulent voter registrations in Nevada and faces investigations in other states. And in Lake County, home to the long-depressed steel town of Gary, the bipartisan Elections Board has stopped processing a stack of about 5,000 applications delivered just before the...

ACORN is making headlines again for filing voter registrations for the dead, the underage and some showing fictitious signatures in Indiana. Suggestions of a criminal investigation are coming out for ACORN groups getting the vote out for Obama. ACORN otherwise known as Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now has been in the news in multiple cities across America lately for filing voter registrations for people that were dead, underage and in some cases duplicate filings. The latest report from The Times, NWI.com, is from Lake County Indiana. Lake County elections officials have confirmed that a "large portion" of 5,000...

If Barack Obama wins this election, there will be absolutely no dobt whatsoever that one of the things that will help push him over the top is massive Democrat vote fraud. It'll make the Democrats that stole the 1960 JFK/Nixon election for Kennedy look like Pikers. One example of this massive vote fraud is in the amazing fact that there are now more registered voters in Indianapolis than are actually eligible to vote. News at 11? How about no news at all. Oh, sure, there have been stories in the media in Indiana covering the vote fraud issue. But almost...

Jane Pauley, one-time co-host of NBC's Today and Dateline NBC programs, is actively campaigning for Barack Obama. A couple of weeks ago, I wrote of one such appearance in Portage, Indiana that attracted only eight people. That event also featured Steve Skvara, the retired steelworker who in August of last year tearfully asked Democratic presidential candidates at a debate, "What's wrong with America? And what will you do to change it?" It's only fair that I follow up by reporting that Pauley's current efforts are being met with much more enthusiasm. Maybe it's because she's now campaigning at Democratic headquarters...

CROWN POINT | Lake County Republican Chairman John Curley wants a federal investigation into hundreds of voter registrations bearing fictitious signatures or the names of dead and underage people. But I want a clean election," Curley said at a Wednesday news conference. Lake County elections officials acknowledged they have found problems and had to reject a large portion of the 5,000 registration forms turned in recently by the...

There's no doubt the upcoming election is having a big impact on people. But places? A local farm market owner is losing business because of a political sign put up by his brother. Sweet corn is their specialty. But lately Bullard's Farm Market is getting some not-so-sweet attention. "Over the Labor Day weekend my brother painted a barn," explained Bullard's Farm Market owner Kevin Bullard. An Obama Barn that is. It's part of a grassroots campaign called "Barns for Obama." Supporters paint an "O" on their barns to show their support.

Obama made his first direct criticism of Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin on Saturday, saying she pretends to oppose spending earmarks when she actually has embraced them. Speaking to 800 people at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute, Ind., the Democratic presidential nominee ridiculed McCain and his running mate, the Alaska governor, for describing themselves as agents of change at last week's GOP convention. "Don't be fooled," Obama told the crowd surrounding him in a large barn. "John McCain's party, with the help of John McCain, has been in charge" for nearly eight years. McCain has vowed to wipe...
