“This is the first time that such a large structure has been identified at such a high redshift, just over 2 billion years after the Big Bang [~13.7 billion],” said lead author Dr. Olga Cucciati, an astronomer at the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Italy.“Normally these kinds of structures are known at lower redshifts, which means when the Universe has had much more time to evolve and construct such huge things. It was a surprise to see something this evolved when the Universe was relatively young!”Located in the COSMOS field in the constellation of Sextans, Hyperion was identified by analyzing the...
  • Hyperion is an ancient cosmic beast formed 2.3B years after Big Bang

Astronomers have discovered a massive proto-supercluster of galaxies -- bigger than even one million billion Suns. Scientists have called the ancient colossal structure Hyperion, the European Southern Observatory announced Wednesday. It is reported to have appeared just 2.3 billion years after the Big Bang, which took place about 13.7 billion years ago. The cluster's namesake is one of 12 titans born to the gods Gaia and Uranus in Greek mythology.

Explanation: Why does this moon look like a sponge? To better investigate, NASA and ESA sent the Saturn-orbiting robotic spacecraft Cassini zooming past Saturn's moon Hyperion, once again, earlier this week. One of the images beamed back to Earth is featured above, raw and unprocessed. Visible, as expected, are many unusually shaped craters with an unusual dark material at the bottom. Although Hyperion spans about 250 kilometers, its small gravitational tug on Cassini indicates that it is mostly empty space and so has very low surface gravity. Therefore, the odd shapes of many of Hyperion's craters are thought to result...
  • Cassini Gets Final, Stunning View of Saturn's Moon Hyperion

On Sunday, May 31, 2015, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft made its latest and final flyby of Hyperion, Saturn’s spongy moon. At around 9:36 a.m. EDT Cassini came within 21,000 miles (34,000 km) of Hyperion’s surface — not its closest approach ever but certainly close enough to grab some fantastic images of this porous and punched-in world. ... At 255 x 163 x 137 miles (410 x 262 x 220 kilometers), Hyperion is the largest of Saturn’s irregularly-shaped moons and its eighth-largest overall. Scientists think it could be what’s left over from a larger moon that was blown apart in the distant...

Mission scientists have hopes of seeing different terrain on Hyperion than the mission has previously explored in detail during the encounter, but this is not guaranteed. Hyperion (168 miles, 270 kilometres across) rotates chaotically, essentially tumbling unpredictably through space as it orbits Saturn. Because of this, it’s challenging to target a specific region of the moon's surface, and most of Cassini's previous close approaches have encountered more or less the same familiar side of the craggy moon.

Explanation: What lies at the bottom of Hyperion's strange craters? Nobody's sure. To help find out, the robot Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn swooped past the sponge-textured moon in 2005 and 2010 and took images of unprecedented detail. An image from the 2005 pass, shown above in false color, shows a remarkable world strewn with strange craters and a generally odd surface. The slight differences in color likely show differences in surface composition. At the bottom of most craters lies some type of unknown dark material. Inspection of the image shows bright features indicating that the dark material might be...
  • Andrea Rossi on Defkalion [Says its a Scam - LOL]

It seems that Dr Rossi and Defkalion agree about something. The Greek company is at pains to say that Hyperion is absolutely their technology and nothing to do with the eCat. While some may find this an Alice-in-Wonderland statement, the Italian inventor does not. He accuses them – without naming – of operating a scam. Andrea Rossi December 1st, 2011 at 12:44 AM WARNING: SOMEBODY IS ON THE ROAD SAYING THEY HAVE SUCCEEDED IN STEALING OUR TECHNOLOGY ( WHOSE PATENT HAS BEEN GRANTED IN ITALY AND IS PENDING IN THE WORLD) AND ARE TRYING TO SELL A MOCK UP SAYING...

PASADENA , Calif. - NASA's Cassini spacecraft has revealed for the first time surface details of Saturn's moon Hyperion, including cup-like craters filled with hydrocarbons that may indicate more widespread presence in our solar system of basic chemicals necessary for life.

Exclusive: Meghan McCain Writes that Palin Brought 'Drama, Stress... Panic' to Campaign Sen. John McCain's Daughter: Sarah Palin's Rise Was 'Too Fast,' 'Too Easy' Aug. 31, 2010— For the first time since the end of her father's 2008 presidential bid, Sen. John McCain's daughter Meghan McCain spoke out about Sarah Palin, writing in a new book that Palin brought "drama, stress, complications, panic and loads of uncertainty" to the losing campaign. Though she writes that during the campaign she wondered if the loss "was Sarah Palin's fault," McCain told "Good Morning America" today in an exclusive interview that Palin was...

ABC News' Huma Khan reports: Meghan McCain, the daughter of former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and a self-described “progressive Republican,” today assailed the tea party movement. Sitting in as co-host on “The View” today, McCain said she has ideological differences with the movement. She specifically took aim at remarks by former Congressman Tom Tancredo, who suggested that people who voted for President Obama could not pass a basic civics literacy test. “People who would not even spell the word vote or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House... named Barack Hussein...

PIERRE, S.D. - The South Dakota Board of Minerals and Environment voted unanimously Thursday to approve an air quality permit for the proposed Hyperion Center, which would be the first new oil refinery built in the United States since 1976. The long-awaited decision moves the Dallas, Texas-based Hyperion a major step closer to starting construction in rural Union County. The location is in extreme southeast South Dakota, across the Missouri River from Nebraska and near the border with Iowa. The nearest Nebraska towns are Newcastle and Ponca. Hyperion executive Preston Phillips said the permit allows the firm to proceed with...

Nuclear Energy on Demand by: Lance Nation, October 24, 2008 Considered by many to be the most important issue facing America after the economy and the War on Terror, the energy “crisis” is in full motion. And, what happens when a capitalist society determines that a problem needs a solution? Someone invents it. Then someone else commercializes it of course. This is precisely what Hyperion Power Generation, Inc. did. Recently, Hyperion Power Generation, Inc. acquired the exclusive rights to commercialize Dr. Otis “Pete” Peterson’s Hyperion Power Module (HPM). Dubbed “nuclear in a box,” the Hyperion Power Module is a hot...

Oracle announced a deal today to acquire Hyperion Solutions, which makes software that allows corporations to analyze and track their performance, for about $3.3 billion. The deal is the latest trophy in a long string of acquisitions by Oracle, the database software giant that has been struggling to grow from within. In December, Oracle posted strong earnings growth for its second fiscal quarter, but its growth in license sales disappointed investors. The company said at the time that it had failed to close some crucial licensing deals during the quarter. License sales rose 28 percent in the quarter, but that...
