Dallas lawyer Fred Baron told The Dallas Morning News today that he made regular payments to the woman that former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards has confessed to having an affair with. Mr. Baron, who was chairman of Mr. Edwards’ presidential campaign finance committee, said he paid money to Rielle Hunter to move from North Carolina to another location. He said she and another campaign aide, Andrew Young, who claimed paternity of Ms. Hunter’s child, were being dogged by tabloid reporters who believed she had an affair with Mr. Edwards and fathered his child. Mr. Baron would not say how...

Just now listening to Roger Hedgecock's KOGO AM radio show. Hedgecock is interviewing Congressman Brian Bilbray and former Presidential hopeful and Congressman Duncan Hunter about the vote for drilling in Washington, D.C. and Pelosi shuting down the House.Hunter and Bilbray are reporting that regular citizens are now being invited to sit in the actual chairs of the no-show Democrats of the House--an action that may never have happened in American history. Congressman Hunter wants to get a number of our nation's Truckers to come to D.C. and have their voices heard, too! After all...he says, it's the people's House!!!

Okay Freepers, I promised "a beatstreet report" from the Hill and here it is. First Brazo Zulu to all the House GOP Lawmakers who did not simply rail on a dark House Floor, but invited the American Public in to take a seat in the empty Democrat Chairs as each Congressional Member raised their voice in demanding that Democrat Leaders grant a simple up or down vote on drilling for oil. Passionate Speeches by several Congressmenmbers were meet with standing O's from visitors and several visitors shared their personal stories on how high gas prices are effecting their lifestyles. I'm a lifelong Republican - a supply-side conservative. I worked in the Reagan White House. I was the chief economist at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for five years. In 1994, I helped write the Republican Contract with America. I served on Bob Dole's presidential campaign team and was chief economist for Jack Kemp's Empower America. This November, I'm voting for Barack Obama. When I first made this decision, many colleagues were shocked. How could I support a candidate with a domestic policy platform that's antithetical to almost everything I believe in? The answer is simple: Unjustified war and unconstitutional...

President Bush weighed in as well at a White House meeting Wednesday with Republicans. But Hunter’s stance reflects what has been a steady undercurrent of criticism on the right. In trying to pull together the wartime spending bill and still meet other budget priorities, Democrats argue that it is unrealistic for Rice to expect the full $500 million at this time. In his letter to Bush, for example, Hunter argues that the $500 million has no place in the bill “much like other programs not intended to support military operations in the combat theaters of the global war on terrorism.”...

More than two years after a precedent-setting move by the federal government cleared a path around environmental laws and legal challenges, the construction of a stretch of border fence across a deep canyon known as Smuggler's Gulch is set to begin next month. The project will require cutting earth from surrounding hills and filling in the canyon with more than 2 million cubic yards of dirt, an operation so large that critics fear disastrous environmental consequences. According to the latest plans from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the project will consist of constructing an earthen berm across the canyon...

The Belle Plaine man who fatally shot his 8-year-old son while turkey hunting last month had alcohol and marijuana in his system at the time of the incident, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Sibley County. Anthony Klaseus mistook his son, Hunter, for a wild turkey last month and shot him in the chest with a 12-gauge shotgun, according to police. When officials arrived at the scene, they smelled alcohol and asked Klaseus if he had been drinking. Klaseus stated he had consumed one beer several hours earlier in the day and agreed to take a preliminary breath...

CNSNews.com) - Two years after President George W. Bush signed the Secure Fence Act into law, requiring 700 miles of double-layer fencing to be constructed along five stretches of the southern U.S. border by May 2008, only 90 miles of fencing have been built -- and just 12 miles of it is double-layered. "By eliminating the double-fence requirement, the Democratic Congress is going to make it easier for drug and human smugglers to cross our Southern land border," Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), who wrote the original fencing specification in the Secure Fence Act, said when the U.S. House passed a...

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — One of Congress' strongest border fence proponents received a hostile reception Monday in the city that has become the epicenter of fence opposition. Boos and hisses emanated from the audience for a congressional field hearing when Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado dismissed residents' concerns that the effort to build 670 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border by year's end would damage the environment and destroy a centuries-old bond between residents on both sides of the Rio Grande. Late in the five-hour hearing, Tancredo returned to a comment made earlier by panelist Betty Perez, a...

Duncan D. Hunter is getting a boost from a national pro-life group in his bid to succeed his father, retiring Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.). The National Right to Life PAC endorsed the younger Hunter on Thursday. "The countless Americans who respect the sanctity of innocent human life appreciate your willingness to serve," said the PAC's executive director, David O'Steen, in a statement. Hunter's father, a staunch conservative, has represented the San Diego-area district for 27 years. Hunter, a 31-year-old veteran of the Iraq war, will face three other Republicans in a June 3 primary. He has raised about $501,000 for...

The father of late television star Steve Irwin said he quit the family's Australian conservation park because he had become a "disrupting influence," although the widow of the khaki-clad "Crocodile Hunter" denies a rift in the clan. Australian media have speculated for months that Terri Irwin, the U.S.-born wife of the television host and mother of his two children, had fallen out with Bob Irwin following his son's death in a 2006 stingray attack. In brief excerpts released Thursday of Bob Irwin's first interview since he left the park earlier this year, he told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. he "was...

The Bush administration plans to cut through the bureaucratic red tape and bypass environmental laws hindering the building of 670 miles of fence along the border with Mexico and finish the section authorized by Congress by the end of this year. Federal officials said the administration will invoke two legal waivers sanctioned by Congress to overcome obstacles holding up construction in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, the Associated Press reported. Officials have said the "virtual fence" along a 28-mile section of the border in Arizona has been delayed by technical problems, and opposition from landowners along the border has...

The subject I want to discuss with you, peace and national security, is both timely and important. Timely, because I've reached a decision which offers a new hope for our children in the 21st century, a decision I'll tell you about in a few minutes. And important because there's a very big decision that you must make for yourselves. This subject involves the most basic duty that any President and any people share, the duty to protect and strengthen the peace.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Air Force on Friday announced one of the largest military acquisition programs in U.S. history, saying the service had chosen Northrop Grumman over Boeing to replace its aging air refueling tanker fleet. (SNIP) Boeing proposed a tanker based on its 767 commercial airliner, while Northrop -- working with Boeing arch-rival Airbus and its parent company, European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS) -- offered a model based on the Airbus A330 airliner, which is larger than the 767. (SNIP) But one lawmaker called the decision to award the contract to Northrop Grumman a blow to...

PHOENIX, AZ —The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC) calls upon our Washington lawmakers to follow Congressman Duncan Hunter’s leadership by reinstating the funding for construction of the double-layered border fence along our Southern border with Mexico that Congress stripped from the budget of the Homeland Security Department last month. MCDC praises Congressman Hunter’s introduction of H.R. 5124 and demands President Bush set the national policy priorities in his last State of the Union that will compel Congress to implement the 2008 Minuteman Border Security Agenda, in order to protect America from the worsening illegal alien invasion—before Congress takes action on...

Republicans had better rush to come to grips with the reality that all of our smart options for the 2008 election cycle are already off the table. Unlike past elections, Republicans actually had two very strong conservatives to unite behind in the 2008 primaries, Thompson and Hunter, and they failed to unite behind either of them. The time to stand up for a true traditional conservative Republican has passed. The chance to do something smart no longer exists. Now we have one last shot and less than one week to do something that is at least half-smart. John McCain is...

BIRMINGHAM | More than 2,000 people gathered at Samford University's Jane Hollock Brock Hall on Saturday afternoon to hear the 44th governor of Arkansas, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, speak about why he should be the 44th president of the United States. (Video at bottom of story) 'I still believe that this is a country that's an amazing place to live, and I'll tell you why,' Huckabee said to a large crowd in Brock Hall's main auditorium while about another 1,000 people listened to his speech over a speaker system in an overflow room. 'We can still dream our dreams...

America is in the midst of an all-important electoral campaign. But, talking to Europeans, I've discovered that there is puzzlement and misinformation on your continent about what's happening on ours. Europeans feel an understandable confusion when faced with a political system consisting of two houses of Congress and a White House, and nobody is home in any of them. Also, America's political parties are indistinguishable to the European eye. A British journalist once described the situation thus: "America is a one-party state, but just like Americans they've got two of them." (I forget which British journalist said that. But there...

The 2008 primary election process has clearly been unfair to conservative candidates, and here's why. Several liberal and moderate/independent states chose to hold their primary elections and caucuses early, all wanting to be first — so they said. But look at what has happened as a result. Conservative candidates like Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter have been drummed out of the race by breaking their bank accounts in non conservative states before the rest of the country ever had a chance to vote for them. Is this what we call "fair and democratic elections"? These are supposed to be national...

A quick note from the road. I'm honored to have the support of Duncan Hunter. Over the past year on the campaign trail, I have come to admire him on a personal and professional level. We share many of the same positions on the military and immigration, and I look forward to having his support as our campaign continues to surge ahead to Super Tuesday.

Fort Lauderdale, FL- Mike Huckabee got a welcomed endorsement today from one of his former rivals for the GOP nod to the White House. Rep.Duncan Hunter (R-CA) endorsed Huckabee, citing his”outstanding character and integrity.” ” I got to know Governor Hukcabee well on the campaign trail, “said Hunter in a press statement.” Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower.” Hunter said one other quality compelled him to endorse the Iowa caucus winner. “Mike Huckabee is a man...

California Rep. Duncan Hunter endorsed Mike Huckabee on Wednesday, four days after dropping his own presidential bid. “I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” said Hunter. “Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base,” he said in a statement. Huckabee said that the other quality compelling his endorsement is that Huckabee “is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the...

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement: "I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base." "Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Governor Romney needs Congressman Hunter to publicly agree, by January 31, to be his vice presidential running mate. If he has to make compromises to get him, he ought to make them. Congressman Hunter happens to be right about our industrial base and fair trade. [See also links in post #2.] That ticket would give Governor Romney instant credibility both among defense conservatives inclined to support Senator McCain and among core evangelicals inclined to support Governor Huckabee. It might be the party's best chance to avoid a brokered convention. Of course, if Governor Huckabee pulls off one more dazzling debate...

Thirty-five years ago today, seven of nine Supreme Court justices voted to make abortion a legal right in this country. In the landmark case of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court dramatically changed our nation, ushering in an era that disrespects human life and fails to acknowledge our responsibility to value and protect life from the moment of conception. Every year since the Supreme Court pronounced its verdict in Roe v. Wade, a courageous and dedicated group of individuals have traveled to Washington to remind us of this unfortunate decision. The March for Life brings together pro-life activists from across...

Treasure hunters find Bronze Age axes Last Updated: 2:06am GMT 22/01/2008 An amateur treasure hunter has unearthed a hoard of bronze age axe heads thought to be worth about £80,000. Tom Peirce started combing a field with his metal detector after dropping off a school coach party at a farm. Within a few minutes it began beeping and he found the first axe head fragment 10in into the soil. When he dug deeper, Mr Peirce found dozens more and, over the following two days, he and a colleague, Les Keith, uncovered nearly 500 bronze artefacts dating back 3,000 years. The...

The things I could say to the Hunter detractors will give the Mods and JimRob massive heart attacks. But I won’t do that. I do hope you’re all happy now. You, along with the others and the lame-stream media, have succeeded in forcing Hunter to drop out. After him, there isn’t any other Conservative in the race. No, Thompson doesn’t come close as he’s supported amnesty, campaign-finance reform and voted to give China permanent MFN status. You all have succeeded in forcing our absolute best chance of turning this country around to drop out. The one man who won’t sell...

Media Shouldn't Make Our ChoicesThursday, January 17 A letter writer complained recently about how Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich is being overlooked by the mainstream media. Mr. Kucinich is being snubbed, and not necessarily because of his leftward leaning. I was in Manchester, N.H. last week working with another candidate, Duncan Hunter, who is being similarly snubbed by the media, and saw quite a bit of Mr. Kucinich doing the best he could at radio row to get some of the media to listen to his stance. I did manage to listen in while Mr. Kucinich gave a very convincing...

FERNLEY - Republican Presidential candidate Rep. Duncan Hunter visited Fernley for about an hour Thursday afternoon to view damage caused by the Jan. 5 flood that ran through a good part of the city. The California congressman, who did not take any questions, drove with Fernley Mayor Todd Cutler to the Truckee Canal - where the breach occurred - and to two affected residential neighborhoods. Cutler took Hunter to a home on Cotton Road, before heading over to Shadow Mountain Road, where the damaged furnishings of the homes were discarded in large piles of debris. Cutler indicated to Hunter how...

Congressman and Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter is in Reno today to prove to the people of Nevada that he is a force to be reckoned with. With his military experience and political background in Washington, Hunter feels that he is someone that the people of Nevada should support. Hunter is a Vietnam veteran who represents San Diego. He says since he first was elected to...

Flip-Floppers Need Not Apply By Thor H. Asgardson January 16, 2008 If you use drugs--especially the illicit drug of cheap Mexican slavery--don't bother to apply for employment as President of the United States of America. Flip-floppers, such as John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani, are known users of Mexican slaves, and cannot be trusted to have kicked their addiction, just because each candidate wants to become president. The current crop of amnesty heads, who continue to plan for their future private fix of the so-called "Comprehensive" Immigration Reform," are all known users. They have disqualified themselves from leading...

As a conservative Baptist Christian, I often hear that I "should" be supporting Mike Huckabee. Yet, I do not, and indeed I CANNOT in good conscience, as a Christian, support Mike Huckabee for the Republican nomination. Here are four of the reasons why, from a moral perspective, Mike Huckabee will NEVER get my vote. His dishonesty: "Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight." (Proverbs 12:22) Mike Huckabee has repeatedly been caught being fast and loose with the truth. After the Iowa caucus, he was caught lying about having a theology degree which...

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council Action in an Update today wrote, “The lesson that some are drawing from the results of the Republican presidential voting to date is that the race for the party's nomination is wide open. The deeper lesson is that the race for the GOP agenda is anything but wide open... “The simple truth is that the conservative coalition--a three-legged stool--stands when social, economic and defense conservatives work together on an interlocking agenda. The coalition collapses when any of the legs is missing. (Dick) Armey and others, especially the early enthusiasts for Rudy Giuliani, suggested...

Duncan Hunter is a slice of true classic Americana. His continued pride in America is evident in everything he has done, which is quite a bit over his life and career. After serving in Vietnam as an Army Ranger, Hunter went to college on the GI bill. Later he ran for congress in a previously democrat controlled district of California at the same time his friend Ronald Reagan was preparing to become President. Hunter won and so did his friend. Duncan Hunter is the candidate that even Reagan’s son Michael Reagan has said best reflects and embodies the true Reagan...

Good for you, Duncan Hunter! California Congressman Duncan Hunter, who borders on being something of a nutcase in his enmity toward immigrants and unflinching support of the war in Iraq, never really had a shot at the Republican presidential nomination this year. But when he called a press conference earlier today in which CNN confidently predicted he would drop out of the race, it came as a refreshing surprise to see Hunter really put the hay down where the goats can get it when it comes to media manipulation of the presidential race.....
