With just over two weeks until Election Day, several Minnesota newspapers are endorsing the Independence Party's Tom Horner for governor. The Star Tribune's editorial board says Horner has the best chance to overcome partisan gridlock in St. Paul. The Forum of Fargo, the Duluth News Tribune and the Bemidji Pioneer also endorsed Horner Sunday. Polls have shown Horner well-behind both Democrat Mark Dayton and Republican Tom Emmer.

The West Central Tribune is the latest daily newspaper in Minnesota to endorse the Independence Party candidate for governor. Tom Horner is in a three-way race with Democrat Mark Dayton and Republican Tom Emmer. The West Central Tribune said Monday that Horner is a moderate, much like the majority of Minnesotans. Several other Forum Communications Co., newspapers have also endorsed Horner, including The Forum of Fargo, N.D., the Duluth News Tribune and the Bemidji Pioneer. The state's largest newspaper, the Star Tribune of Minneapolis, endorsed Horner Sunday in an editorial.

ST. PAUL — With bruising campaign ads already looping on Minnesota TV, Democratic nominee Mark Dayton urged a "cease-fire" Thursday on independently run attack ads in the Minnesota governor's race. Two days after winning his party's nod, Dayton said he wants to keep the race with Republican Tom Emmer and the Independence Party's Tom Horner from falling into the "political sewer."

ST. PAUL, Minn.—As Minnesota governor, Independence Party candidate Tom Horner says he would "take a hard look" at tax exemptions and deductions, including mortgage interest for homeowners. Horner said Thursday he favors capping the deduction homeowners can claim, although he didn't set an amount. "I don't think we ought to eliminate the mortgage deduction.
