A harrowing police chase lasting nearly an hour ensued in South Florida on Thursday, ending in gunfire and as many as four people shot dead, according to law enforcement. The dead included two robbers, a UPS driver whose truck they hijacked and a fourth person in a nearby vehicle, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The high-speed pursuit was highlighted by the Texas man, identified as Samuel Aguirre-Vasquez, tossing beer bottles out of his company’s pickup while he was driving. At one point police say Aguirre-Vasquez tossed a bottle that hit a deputy’s vehicle. The chase ended about three hours after his wild ride began. A Colorado Department of Transportation camera showed police pointing guns at Aguirre-Vasquez. “He threw out about six bottles and there’s a bunch of empty beer bottles in there so he didn’t chuck them all out,” Lincoln County Undersheriff Gordon Nall said. Drug smugglers are turning to a sharp law enforcement tactic as they try to stop Texas law officers from chasing them.... Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Joe Trevino says agents in south Texas have had spikes thrown at their vehicles at least five times this year. Trevino told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that at least 15 incidents were reported in 2009, in which 33 vehicles were damaged, including 13 civilian cars and trucks. A Mexican man was apprehended by Border Patrol agents Wednesday after he fled from authorities and rolled his truck spilling marijuana across a roadway south of Amado near Interstate 19, an official said. The man, whose identity was not released, could face multiple charges including transportation of narcotics, said Gustavo Soto, a spokesman for the U.S. Border Patrol Tucson Sector. Police in the Town of Highlands, New York, say Siragusa broke just about every rule of the road. He was finally stopped by military police after a chase that topped more than 90 miles an hour. Siragusa was also cited for passing on the right, failure to stay in lane, drunk driving and possession of marijuana. Siragusa might have been celebrating. BAY POINT - A Concord man struggled with a police dog in a knee-deep marsh, and at one point tried to drown it at the end of a high-speed police pursuit, the California Highway Patrol reported Friday. The dog bit Justin Sorg, 21, several times during the tussle late Thursday, said CHP spokesman Scott Yox.
