A retired Marine One helicopter frequently used during George H.W. Bush’s presidency completed the trip to its final destination Tuesday, when it was delivered to College Station to be put on display at Bush’s presidential library and museum. The massive aircraft — it weighs 4.65 tons and is 72 feet long — was trucked to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum grounds on Texas A&M University’s west campus. The sight of the helicopter being lifted off the truck and moved into its permanent home in the soon-to-open Marine One/4141 Locomotive Pavilion drew a small crowd of onlookers, as...

Five U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) members aboard a helicopter that went missing on a flight from Nevada to California were confirmed dead Thursday morning. A search-and-rescue operation was launched for the CH-53E Super Stallion after it was “reported overdue” on Wednesday, as Breitbart News reported. The heavy-lift cargo helicopter was on a training flight from a Nevada Air Force base to an air station near San Diego. The crew was flying in an historic storm that dumped snow and rain across California, conditions that also hampered search and rescue efforts. It was later found in the snow-covered California mountains –...

Chinese intelligence officials offered a Taiwanese army pilot millions of dollars to steal a US-made transport helicopter and land on a Chinese aircraft carrier. Lieutenant Colonel "Hsieh" was offered $15 million by Chinese spies to steal a Boeing CH-47 Chinook and land on a People's Liberation Army Navy aircraft carrier during a military drill near the self-ruled island. The plan to steal the Chinook came to an abrupt end when Taiwanese authorities arrested Hsieh in August for allegedly spying for Beijing. In an indictment revealed by the Taiwan High Court Prosecutors Office on Monday, "Lieutenant Colonel Hsieh was asked to...

Two of these passed over our house a few min ago. Very slowly and the motor sound was very loud. Obviously they were big. I live near the Arizona National Guard Papago Park Military Reservation and so I'm sure it came from there. We do get some interesting craft from there overhead at times. I'm just curious. What is it carrying? It looks like a bomb but I am guessing that it isn't. ?

Robin Roberts visited Rotorua on an expedition of a lifetime and shared a first-hand look at the shrinking ice. First, she suited up to hop in a helicopter for a bird's-eye view of the dangerously thin ice, which scientists call a critical part of the climate crisis.

NASA's Mars helicopter Ingenuity has performed its shortest-ever flight, the first after a major software update that will allow the little chopper to land more safely and navigate over rugged terrain. Ingenuity's 34th flight, which took place on Tuesday (Nov. 22), lasted only 18 seconds and saw the helicopter briefly hover after takeoff above Mars' surface before landing just 16 feet (5 meters) away from its starting point. The flight, the first since Sept. 29, was the first try-out of a new software system that was beamed to Ingenuity from Earth to improve its ability to operate in the rugged...

Ingenuity aced its "Wright Brothers moment" a year ago — and it's still going strong. One year ago today (April 19), an aircraft flew on a world beyond Earth for the first time ever. That history-making vehicle is NASA's Ingenuity Mars helicopter, which landed inside the Red Planet's Jezero Crater with the life-hunting, sample-caching Perseverance rover on Feb. 18, 2021. Just over two months later, the 4-pound (1.8 kilograms) Ingenuity made its first foray into the Martian skies, hovering about 10 feet (3 meters) above the red dirt of a site named, appropriately enough, Wright Brothers Field. With that 39-second...
