House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has decided to try to strong-arm through her plan to destroy our health care system, even in the face of overwhelming signals that she is fighting a losing battle. In the process she has continued her annoying little habit of breaking promises to the American people. She had promised to not hold a vote on the “health care reform” legislation without posting the final language of the bill online at least 72 hours prior to the vote. Apparently she is afraid that the final version of her 2000 page behemoth will further outrage the voting public.

Congress recognizes no limits on its power. It doesn't care about the Constitution, it doesn't care about your inalienable rights. If this health care bill becomes law, America, life as you have known it, freedom as you have exercised it and privacy as you have enjoyed it will cease to be. [snip] We do not have two political parties in this country, America. We have one party; called the Big Government Party. The Republican wing likes deficits, war, and assaults on civil liberties. The Democratic wing likes wealth transfer, taxes, and assaults on commercial liberties. Both parties like power; and...

House Democrats have cleared an impasse over abortion that has been holding up a vote on sweeping health care legislation. A vote is expected on Saturday — after President Barack Obama makes a late morning trip to the Capitol to make one final pitch for the legislation. According to Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan, he and other abortion opponents will be given a chance to insert tougher abortion restrictions into the legislation during debate on the House floor.

Like many Americans, I’m very concerned about the efforts underway to rush through the 2,000 page Pelosi health care bill this weekend. Why the rush? That’s a lot of pages to read. Why not give everyone the chance to read it and debate it? How much will this bill cost us? It’s unclear because the figures coming out of Washington keep changing – and always in the direction of costing more, not less. The latest numbers show it will cost more than a trillion dollars over the decade, but when has a government program ever come in on or under...

I know you’re not going to believe this, but remember that recently released partial list of White House visitors? SEIU’s Andy Stern at 22 visits must have moved into the Lincoln Bedroom. Movie stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt (if this were still the Clinton White House, it would have been Jennifer Anniston and Angie Jolie); Oprah; GE and NBC’s Jeff Imelt; phony anti-capitalist capitalist, Michael Moore; patriot short-seller and Israel-hater and what many think is to Obama what Cheney was to Bush, George Soros. My phone rang at 3 a.m. Wednesday. Groggily answering, I heard Hillary’s scratchy voice. She...

The health bill that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is bringing to a vote (H.R. 3962) is 1,990 pages. Here are some of the details you need to know. What the government will require you to do: • Sec. 202 (p. 91-92) of the bill requires you to enroll in a "qualified plan." If you get your insurance at work, your employer will have a "grace period" to switch you to a "qualified plan," meaning a plan designed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If you buy your own insurance, there's no grace period. You'll have to enroll in...

Patriots from all over the Nation heeded Michele Bachmann's plea of less than a week ago to come to Washington to rally and lobby congress to vote no on Pelosi care. At Noon yesterday, Michelle Bachmann descended the steps of the US Capitol joined by leading Republicans to the thundering cheers of patriots, and their chants of "kill the bill." These Americans Patriots, who Nancy Pelosi, condescendignly called, "Astroturf" back in August, had eagerly waited for the press conference and rally to begin for over two hours. And they were not disappointed. "We are here today to bring focus and...

All are Out of Jail Another Fight Tomorrow - Is it the Final House Fight? Thanks be to God, Father Norman Weslin is out of jail, as are all of the pro-lifers who got arrested yesterday at Nancy Pelosi's office.Click this video -- which took place at Pelosi's on Thursday, November 5th -- to be taken to it. Special thanks to those of you who helped. Five of them have this completely behind them, with a "post and forfeit" arrangement with the prosecutor. Seven of them have future court dates. By 6:45, all of them were out, and back at...

Abortion opponents won a huge last-minute concession late Friday night after Democratic leaders agreed to grant them a vote on an amendment that would effectively bar insurers that participate in the exchanges from offering coverage for abortions. Members of the Rules Committee were expected to approve a vote on the amendment early Saturday morning after hours of negotiations in Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Capitol office. Leaders reluctantly made the decision after working for days to broker a truce that would garner a blessing from the Conference of Catholic Bishops. But the church, according to members and aides, wouldn't accept a compromise...

Will Preventive Care Control Costs? (or Will Free Health Care pay for itself?) Mises Institute ^ | November 04, 2009 | Eric M. Staib Posted on Thursday, November 05, 2009 11:01:46 PM by sickoflibs In an attempt to control the aggregate healthcare costs that will be shouldered by taxpayers under his proposed system, President Obama has pushed increased reliance on preventive care for all eligible Americans. His argument is that, because preventive care is normally much less expensive than later surgeries, increased use of these earlier, preemptive treatments will entail radical cost savings. As with many of the president's healthcare...

Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years. According to the Congressional Budget Office the lowest cost family non-group plan under the Speaker’s bill would cost $15,000 in 2016.

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Could the health care bill be in real trouble in the House? The Democratic defections are starting to pile up in advance of a vote scheduled for tomorrow on sweeping health reform efforts. (That schedule could slip to Sunday or beyond, if the votes aren’t there.) According to the National Republican Congressional Committee -- which, of course, has an interest in watching this vote particularly closely -- 15 House Democrats and counting are saying publicly that they’ll oppose the measure when it reaches a vote. Democrats can afford only 40 such defections to squeak the...

During the campaign, Obama made a definitive promise not to raise any taxes on families making less than $250,000 per year: “I can make a firm pledge. Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes” (September 12, 2008, Dover, NH) "No one making less than $250,000 under Barack Obama's plan will see one single penny of their tax raised," Joe Biden said, "whether it's their capital gains tax, their income tax, investment...

The House of Representatives, its members and its leaders have not gotten the message. They still are bent on enacting health care reform that is everything but health care reform. It is the most egregious act ever undertaken by any Congress in the history of the republic. It is the most substantial step toward statism and socialistic government yet attempted by anyone. It is, many say, a step toward government control from which the country cannot recover. It is intolerable and unacceptable, and if it passes we are no longer any of the things that have made this country exceptional...

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000...

... Buried in Nancy Pelosi's health-care bill is a provision that will partially repeal tax indexing for inflation, meaning that as their earnings rise over a lifetime these youngsters can look forward to paying higher rates even if their income gains aren't real. In order to raise enough money to make their plan look like it won't add to the deficit, House Democrats have deliberately not indexed two main tax features of their plan: the $500,000 threshold for the 5.4-percentage-point income tax surcharge; and the payroll level at which small businesses must pay a new 8% tax penalty for not...

Just got this writing in an e from Rep. Marsha Blackburn: As I write this, Members are being informed that the health care debate is likely to extend through the weekend. A final vote may not come until Tuesday. The Rules Committee, the body that decides what amendments will and not be considered on H.R. 3962 is meeting now. I am waiting my turn to offer a series of amendments that would make H.R. 3962 a better bill.

The voters be damned: That seems to be Speaker Nancy Pelosi's attitude in the wake of big Democratic losses on Tuesday. "House Democratic leaders, undeterred by delays in the Senate or this week's Republican electoral triumphs, plan to call a vote Saturday on the most sweeping overhaul of U.S. health-care policy in four decades," Bloomberg reports: The House will move on the $1.05 trillion legislation that would cover 36 million uninsured people and create a government plan to compete with private insurers even after the election of Republican governors in New Jersey and Virginia. President Barack Obama will go to...

There is a provision (section 532 on page 325) of the house bill that will increase taxes on lots of people. The provision places a $2,500 cap on qualifiying benefits in Flexible Spending Accounts (so called "Cafeteria Plans"). Currently there is no cap. Here's a real example. I own a small business and I provide up to $10,000 a year, per employee, into an FSA. If an employee making $50,000 a year uses the entire $10,000 for family health care coverage, it's all tax-free. Under the health care plan (both Pelosi's and the Senate Finance Committee version), only the first...

November 5, 2009MEMORANDUMTo: Congressional staff From: Richard Doerflinger Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities U.S. Conference of Catholic BishopsRe: The Ellsworth amendment to H.R. 3962 on abortion: Initial observationsThe House leadership is asking members for reactions to new abortion language proposed by Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-IN) for H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. The Ellsworth amendment (henceforth “the amendment”) is said to be a “compromise” addressing pro-life concerns raised against the current bill. However, on examination it is not a meaningful compromise. It addresses none of the substantial criticisms offered by the Catholic bishops’ conference and other pro-life...

Bumper stickers with the message "Abortion is Not Health Care" have started appearing around the country. They could also say infanticide and euthanasia are not health care. Our first child, Therese Marie, was born on September 29th the Feast of the Archangels. ...If I were trying to develop a strategy to pass a bill that most Americans oppose, I would consciously plan for exactly what happened during the banking bailout bill in 2008. I would let them scream, let them march, let them carry signs and write letters, and even let the bill fail to pass. And once the citizenry was sufficiently exhausted or had turned their attention to something else, I would put it up for another vote. Personally, I would be surprised if this were truly a conscious strategy by most of our representatives, although I am sure that the...

(Washington, D.C.) -- Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) predicted on Thursday that there will be a constitutional challenge to the provision in the health care bill under consideration in Congress that would require all Americans to buy health insurance. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the federal government has never before mandated that Americans purchase any good or service. When asked by CNSNews.com on Thursday where in the Constitution is Congress given the authority to mandate that people buy health insurance, McCain said, “That is an excellent question and I’m sure that if they pass health care legislation, I think there...

As Tuesday’s vote revealed, Americans are strongly devoted to individualism, one happy aspect of which is that they are possessed of an abhorrence to being told what to think, a truth that explains why people are drawing their own conclusions regarding this question: Which Americans are behaving with anti-intellectual, hateful ignorance in the debate regarding the Obama/Pelosi/Reid healthcare bills making their way through Congress? To answer that question, common sense folks begin by stipulating some of what is currently known about the bills, for example — The final version will be advertised as costing $1 trillion over the next decade....

WASHINGTON – A House leader says Democrats haven't yet lined up enough votes to pass their health care overhaul bill and may push the vote set for Saturday back one day or more. Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland says the vote that House Democrats had scheduled for Saturday could slip to Sunday or early next week. Hoyer acknowledged to reporters Friday that Democratic leaders don't yet have the 218 votes needed. He said he still expects passage Saturday night. But he added that some Democrats are still "looking to get a comfort level" with the bill.

I have have a Canadian friend who keeps telling me that Canada's healthcare system is better because it caters to ANYONE regardless of pre-existing condition. In other words, the Canadian system has a safety net for people ( who through no fault of their own ) were born unhealthy ( asthma, diabetes, etc. ). In the USA, people who have these conditions cannot be insured because they are a drain on insurance companies and most of them are not poor enough to qualify for medicaid. The result is it drains the family's budget and makes the middle class actually poorer....

Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD that the speaker will not allow the final language of the health care to be posted online for 72 hours before bringing the bill to a vote on the House floor, despite her September 24 statement that she was "absolutely" committed to doing so. House members are still negotiating important issues in the bill--whether it will provide taxpayer-funding for abortions, for example. Pelosi is pushing for a Saturday House vote, and a number of big changes will be introduced, likely less than 24 hours before the vote takes place (if in fact...

Don’t get sick after June” is a well known saying in Indian Country. It refers to the month when the federally managed Indian Health Service (IHS) program runs out of money. It’s “a pretty accurate mantra,” according to Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees the program. IHS is a shameful example of how patients suffer when their care is relegated to a government bureaucracy that rations care. IHS, in fact, characterizes the service it provides as a “rationed health care system.” As many in Congress continue to push for a public option...

There are lies, there are damned lies, and there are the statistics that Democrats have ginned up to try to sell ObamaCare. The most recent example comes from statistics, bandied about by their media mouthpieces this week, purporting that infant mortality rates in the U.S. are proof that the healthcare system is sick and needs Drs. Obama, Pelosi and Reid to cure it. Big Media reportedly breathlessly this week that the U.S. ranks 30th in infant mortality rates. They preached that that standing reflects the quality of the country's healthcare system, that we fall short of other countries and need...
