Scientists plumbing the Pacific Ocean off the Hawaii coast have discovered a Second World War era Japanese submarine, a technological marvel that had been preparing to attack the Panama Canal before being scuttled by U.S. forces. The 122-metre "Sen-Toku" class vessel — among the largest pre-nuclear submarines ever built — was found in August off the southwest coast of Oahu and had been missing since 1946, scientists at the University of Hawaii at Manoa said. The I-400 and its sister ship, the I-401, which was found off Oahu in 2005, were able to travel one and a half times around...

A Japanese submarine that was preparing to attack the Panama Canal during World War Two has been discovered off the coast of Hawaii. The 400-foot (122-meter) ‘Sen-Toku’ class vessel - among the largest pre-nuclear submarines ever built - was found by chance in August off the southwest coast of Oahu. It has been missing since 1946 according to scientists at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The I-400 and its sister ship, the I-401, which was found off Oahu in 2005, were able to travel one and a half times around the world without refuelling.

CHICAGO — People who live in Chicago know a few things to be true about their city. Winters are brutal. The architecture is first-rate. The Cubs will lose. In the last few years, they have confidently added another: The Barack Obama Presidential Library will be built here, Mr. Obama’s adopted hometown. But as the Obamas and their foundation near a decision on the location of the library — after narrowing the options down to Hawaii, Chicago and New York City — someone in their camp recently let it slip that they are not so pleased with Chicago’s bids.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said Friday that Islamic extremists were at war with the United States, and urged the Obama administration to adopt the same view. "I'm upset that the president and the White House...is not actually saying this is a war that the Islamic extremists are posing against the United States and against the West," she said during an appearance on CNN’s “The Situation Room” Friday. In the same interview, Gabbard referred to the threat posed by “this radical Islamic extremist agenda." The White House has tried to avoid using the...

    – President Barack Obama and his family just spent their Christmas and New Year’s holidays in Kailua. Now it’s time for taxpayers to pick up the tab. While the Obamas and friends who accompany them pay for their own private vacation home rentals on or near Kailua Beach, taxpayers foot a multimillion dollar tab for everything from a stand-by ambulance to the fuel for Air Force One.

During his seventh Hawaii vacation last month, HPD reported $277,585 in overtime costs in addition to the police officers' regular salaries. Guest Post by Willis EschenbachFollowing up on my previous investigations into the oceanic pH dataset, I’ve taken a deeper look at what the 2.5 million pH data points from the oceanographic data can tell us. Let me start with an overview of oceanic pH (the measure of alkalinity/acidity, with neutral being a pH of 7.0). Many people think that the ocean has only one pH  everywhere. Other people think that the oceanic pH is different in different places, but is constant over time. Neither view is correct.First, here is a view of a transect of the north Pacific ocean...

I cannot believe it: the Wons’ 16 day vacation is over and they’re on their way back to the Big White already. It seems like they just left. Butt if the Wons’ vacation is over, so is everyone else’s.So you’re up to speed, let’s review how Big Guy spent his winter vacation. It’s really amazing how much Big Guy can squeeze into a mere 16 days: 9 rounds of golf (54 for the year, 214 since taking office, if anyone’s still keeping score. Of course no scores were released as they, like college grades, could prove to be embarrassing) And...

Just 24 hours after President Obama sat down for five-star dinner with the first lady, he was back in another renowned Hawaii restaurant for a luxury meal. He took his family to Nobu, a Japanese restaurant inside the hip Waikiki Parc Hotel where meals cost around $180 per person. Images showed his motorcade parked outside the stylish eatery as hundreds crowded to get a glimpse of the Commander-in-Chief, Michelle Obama and their two children. The president first ate at the upmarket restaurant in 2012 on New Year's Day, enjoying a three-hour meal of butter-poached lobster, roasted duck, and seared foie...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)President Barack Hussein Obama is an American, born in Hawaii, Christian and a loyal, law abiding citizen of the United States. This is the official line of every mainstream source of information on the president. However, the writer of this article suggests an alternative perspective. Rather than relying on what people say, the writer of this article suggests we should look at what people do to determine who they truly are.Obama is an American citizen in good standing, a Christian and a law abiding citizen with a clean criminal background, for this is what all the records tell us. President Obama’s golf game on Sunday forced a pair of Army captains to move their nuptials to a different location, Bloomberg reports. Edward Mallue Jr. and Natalie Heimel had planned to tie the knot on the 16th tee at Kaneohe Klipper golf course when management informed them that they would have to wait a day so the president could hit the links. Kaneohe Klipper is an 18-hole championship course on the military base that offers views of the Ko’olau Mountains and Pacific coastline. • Is there a hole in the earth?

I'm browsing Google Earth around Kauai Hawaii and I noticed a really deep spot in the water just off the coast( 21°57'19.39"N 159°20'21.30"W). The surrounding water depth is about 50 feet, but the depth of the hole is over 6,000 feet. So I decided to dive in and take a look. Next thing I know, I am in South Africa. Pretty weird, so I try it again. Same result. Every time I try it, I end up in or near South Africa. Does this happen for anyone else?
