Why has no one asked President Obama what “common sense” gun control measures in addition to those already at work in Chicago he would like to see? Why has no one asked him about the disparity in his concern over a handful of white victims in Orgeon versus his complete ignoring of hundreds of black murder victims in his hometown? Chicago, the town Obama adopted as his own and where his mansion still sits, puts the lie to the vague gun control nostrums he is selling. A highly amusing site called heyjackass.com (“Illustrating Chicago Values”) graphically illustrates the ongoing carnage...

A group of sheriffs from different Colorado counties are moving forward with their fight to repeal stricter state gun laws put in place three years ago. Those laws limit the capacity of ammunition magazines and expand background checks on gun purchases in Colorado. Sheriffs like Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario say they are committed to fighting to protect what they say is citizens’ Second Amendment rights. Dozens of current and former sheriffs gathered in Denver on Monday along with gun rights groups at the Byron White Courthouse. Many of those individuals are named in a lawsuit which challenges Colorado’s new...

The White House conceded Friday that new gun regulations probably wouldn’t have prevented the gunman who murdered two television journalists in southwestern Virginia this week. White House press secretary Josh Earnest said it appears that a proposal championed by President Obama to require background checks on purchases at gun shows “would not have applied in this particular case.”

Elizabeth Elderli is not your typical felon. The 31-year-old Houstonian is a wife, a stay-at-home mom, an honorably discharged Iraq War veteran (U.S. Marine Corps) — and now the latest tourist to run afoul of New York State’s unforgiving gun laws. Elderli is the legal owner of a 9-mm and a .380-caliber handgun, both of which she was carrying, loaded, as she queued in the security line at the September 11 Memorial in lower Manhattan last Saturday. Noticing a sign prohibiting firearms, she announced her two weapons to security personnel. She was arrested by the NYPD, and the next day...

President Obama on Thursday pledged to use his last 18 months in office to work on gun control, calling it “the one area where I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied.” “If you ask me where has been the one area where I feel that I’ve been most frustrated and most stymied, it is the fact that the United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient, common-sense gun safety laws – even in the face of repeated mass killings,” he told the BBC in an interview. “And...

One of President Barack Obama's greatest frustrations is his inability to pass stricter gun laws, he told the BBC Thursday just hours before a mass shooting in a Louisiana theater. "If you ask me where is the one area where I feel that I have been most frustrated and most stymied, it is the fact that the United States of America is the one advanced nation on earth in which we do not have sufficient, common sense, gun safety laws," Obama said. "Even in the face of repeated mass killings." The comments are especially notable because later on Thursday, an...

Communities outside the Denver-metro area are peeved that Gov. John Hickenlooper’s latest appointment to the Colorado Supreme Court wasn’t someone who lives outside the state’s capital city. ... We have seven Supreme Court justices and not even one from outside the governor’s adoptive hometown, where professional cliques decide what’s best for the rest of the state. This isn’t the first time Hick has been slammed for ignoring constituents who live outside Denver. A few years ago, he was accused of launching a war on rural Colorado by passing stricter gun laws and a renewable energy mandate that unfairly targeted rural...

.......“This community has to face the reality that the gun laws that this state has put forward over the last few years – as proud as it makes the governor and legislature feel – has resulted in more guns on the streets of the City of Milwaukee,” Barrett said. Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said that the gun laws Barrett referenced actually deal with concealed carry permits. “There is zero evidence that concealed carry permits [have] led to an increase in guns on the streets,” Clarke said.

61 percent of Floridians oppose requiring colleges and universities to allow concealed weapons on their campuses. 61 percent of Floridians oppose changing Florida law to allow guns in K-12 schools. When a 72-year-old retired school teacher faces a 10 year felony sentence (a likely life sentence) for possession of an unloaded 18th century flintlock pistol, one knows immediately that we can only be talking about a handful of states in which such a travesty can happen. In this case, not surprisingly, it’s the “Garden State” of New Jersey. Gordon Van Gilder, who taught in the New Jersey school system for 34 years, is a collector of 18th century memorabilia. He acquired a genuine antique flintlock pistol from that era, and had it unloaded and wrapped in a cloth in his...

The NRA has filed suit against three Pennsylvania cities claiming their gun laws are illegal. Washington, DC — Newly available data for 2013 reveals that states with weak gun violence prevention laws and higher rates of gun ownership have the highest overall gun death rates in the nation, according to a Violence Policy Center (VPC) analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. Meanwhile, states with the lowest overall gun death rates have lower rates of gun ownership and some of the strongest gun violence prevention laws in the nation. However, even in these states the human toll of gun violence is far above the...

The rifle pictured above is completely legal. Take off the stock and the barrel, and replace them with the two inch shorter barrel and the pistol grip, and it is completely legal. Leave the stock on, and put on the shorter barrel, and you have just committed a Federal felony with a potential five year jail sentence. The rifle pictured above is a single shot. The two semiautomatic handguns and the revolver have more power, more capacity, and are easier to conceal, but their possession is constitutionally protected. The National Firearms Act of 1934 might have made...

A federal judge upheld gun laws on Thursday introduced by Colorado in the wake of deadly shooting rampages there and in Connecticut, dismissing a lawsuit brought by sheriffs, gun shops, outfitters and shooting ranges. The two laws, passed in 2013 by Colorado's Democratic-controlled legislature with scant Republican support, banned ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds and required background checks for all private gun sales and transfers. After a two-week civil trial, U.S. District Chief Judge Marcia Krieger ruled the lawsuit lacked standing and said no evidence had been produced which showed limiting magazines to 15 rounds seriously diminished...

I have an idea about clearing up confusion about interpreting the 2nd amendment. Suppose some state (like Texas, for example) created a group called "the militia". Anyone could join for free from any state. There would be no duties, just a database proving membership. Members would then be protected from onerous gun control laws.

An exasperated President Barack Obama on Tuesday expressed new surprise and dismay at the lack of congressional action on stemming gun violence, hours after yet another American community was jolted by a deadly school shooting. Without congressional support, Obama signed dozens of unilateral executive actions meant to quell gun violence. Though broad action, like banning assault weapons or high capacity magazines, still require congressional approval.

Rhode Island state senator Josh Miller (D-Cranston, Warwick) and his apparent cameraman — though henchman may be more appropriate in this case — told Dan Bidondo of Truth Radio Show to “go f*ck” himself after the conservative talk-show host asked for comment on Second-Amendment rights, according to a video posted to YouTube Monday.
