Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was 11 in 1991 when she was snatched ... ... The case broke after Garrido was spotted Tuesday with two children as he tried to enter the University of California, Berkeley, campus to hand out religious literature. The officers said he was acting suspiciously toward the children. They questioned him and did a background check, determining he was a parolee, and informed his parole officer. Garrido was ordered to appear for a parole meeting and arrived Wednesday with Dugard, his wife and two children. During questioning, corrections officials said he admitted kidnapping Dugard. It was not...

Finally American progressives can have a G.O.D. they can believe in. Banking on a wildly successful media coverage of its efforts to transform the backward, individualistic America into a nation of enlightened state-worshippers ruled by unelected czars, the administrative branch is preparing for a next radical reform that will further streamline the system and dispel the accusations of oligarchic rule by concentrating all the powers enumerated, extrapolated, and imagined under the constitution in the hands of only one man. Said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, "We must urgently streamline the decision-making process because the time for talk is over....

I grew up in a home where God was MIA. I don't remember religion being mentioned except occasional references to some sort of God and a heaven. While my family was proud of their ethnicity, they didn't practice the religion. Aside from the requisite Bar Mitvahs, they never set foot in a synagogue. My parents did worship at the altar of pleasure. They loved to party; they lived for the times they'd go out with their large, rowdy group, and dance and drink the night away. I'm not sure why my parents were such party animals. It was probably a...

In a conference call to over 1,000 religious leaders, President Barack Obama revealed what he called his “hole card” in the battle for passage of his health care reform. “Opponents of my legislation may have the rich, the racists, the evil-mongers, and the ‘unAmericans’ on their side,” Obama contended. “But I have God on my side.” The President asserted that “unlike our opponents who shy away from the tough issue of life and death, God and I have ‘partnered’ on this crucial issue. Who shall live and who shall die will be a joint decision.” Obama cautioned against “letting the...

Oh, to escape the daily grind, And yet right now that cannot be. I’ll close my eyes and use my mind To dream of what I long to see. Unlock imagination’s door And clear my mind of other things. Look forward to what is in store, To what my fantasizing brings. The grass so green, trees reaching high And wildflowers line the way Of path beneath the sunlit sky. Such beauty words cannot convey. So red and plump, I cannot pass, Delight in taste of berries sweet. Remove my shoes, the luscious grass Feels velvety beneath my feet.

Some people are just really good at giving gifts. My friend Tan is one of those people. Shortly before I left on vacation a few weeks ago, Tan and I were having a conversation about babies, which led to a discussion about Blake’s nighttime routine. To sleep soundly, she requires a noise machine and music. I was lamenting the fact that we did not have a viable gadget on which to play music while we were on vacation, and we were worried that she might regress in her sleeping habits. Tan listened and said he knew what I was talking...

"The questions [people are asking] have changed quite significantly in the past 30 years," he told me. "It used to be, 'Is there a God?' and now it's 'What I know about God I don't like.' Their biggest complaint is that God acts in morally inferior ways compared to us." Not only that, but the God who appears in the Bible is especially offensive. The God who gets communicated to the young sounds vengeful and angry and over-anxious to consign people to hell, plus he gets all wrought up about divorce, homosexuality and whether people sleep together before marriage --...

We are honoring a unique and creative patriot today, he is the President of Max Motors in Butler, MO. I first learned of Mr. Muller through my husband when he came home from work one day. He got me on the computer and told me to go to YouTube, saying there was something I had to see. There was Mark interviewing with a reporter on CNN. He was superb in his representation and extremely quick-witted. I would say he did an exceptional job and took over the interview, standing out far beyond the reporter. They interviewed him based on his...

If it's true that God is personal and has a personality, then a couple of thoughts strike me. - He can speak to different people in different ways. - You will have to cultivate/practice hearing His voice. Just like after a while you know the voice of your friends on the phone, after a while you just know the voice of God. It's a topic for another post, but I've had some terribly embarrassing experiences in the past when I thought I heard God's voice and didn't - but I won't go into that now (that's what's known as a...

It took a couple of pints of Shock Top ale, but eventually Danyelle Price knew what she wanted to ask her pastor about the book of Psalms...Price, 31, was sitting in the Tavern bar with about 20 members of an after-church gathering called Austin Inklings and hosted by Immanuel Church. Like several other groups in Austin, the Inklings pair drinking with spontaneous dialogue about faith. Price said she thinks such groups should be called "Christians like beer, too."

“ God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day. Rainbow colours, glorious, Melt into scenic views— Radiant through softened glow, Creating all things new. Freshness lingers past the rain, Embracing nature’s charm— God’s vibrant promises still proclaimed With tender hues of calm. Sunbeams gently stroke my face, And Heaven’s warmth abides— My spirit yearns for His embrace And peace His touch provides.

Spring has replaced the winter’s frosty dawn Birds return with sounds reclaimed Their brilliant colours grace the skies. Honey-suckle scent lingers in the air Buds burst open to reveal their hidden treasure Amid the shades of a rainbow, flowers flourish. What does it mean to be an idolater? Idolatry may seem like a sin that modern people do not commit. But idolatry is not just bowing down to idols; it is trusting in what one has made, and therefore, in one’s own power as creator or sustainer. If we say we worship God but put our trust in bank accounts, homes, businesses, and organizations, then we are idolaters “Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result,...

I posted the following statement to our front page in response to the criticism I'm receiving lately as to not being fair and balanced and perceived mistreatment of trolls and assorted malcontents. Got news for all, I'm NOT fair and balanced. I'm biased toward God, country, family, liberty and freedom and against liberalism, socialism, anarchism, wackoism, global balonyism and any other form of tyranny. Hope this helps. Statement by the founder of Free Republic: In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of...

Large portions of evilbible.com have been considered, dissected and declared fallacious on very many levels. Two examples of this fact are as follows: Whilst besmirching the Bible for allegedly commanding rape evilbible.com, for some odd reason, neglects to mention the most relevant biblical text related to the biblical view of and law about rape. Why this omission? Who knows, but it would certainly have gotten in the way of a good session of emotive expression of prejudice—it would have discredited evilbible.com to reference this most important text. Indeed, those annoying little facts have an annoying way of getting in the...

In these verses the Apostle Paul shows the reasons why he or anyone whose life is known, can be trusted, in the midst of those who are not only deceived but are deceiving others as well. This is a mark of the last days. 2 Timothy 3:10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, 1.”But thou hast fully known my…” a. Disproving the existence of Zeus (Round 1) My fan club of skeptics was not happy with my last post in which I explained the rational basis on which a Christian (or anybody else) can recognize the existence of one particular deity (e.g. Yahweh) whilst not being required to concede the existence of another (e.g. Zeus). Thus, recognizing the existence of one particular god does not commit a person to recognizing innumerable other gods. There is a fully rational stopping point in place. Nonetheless, the fan club was not satisfied with this outcome, and it insists that I disprove the existence...

Does the earth belong to the Lord or does it belong to Satan? If one simply takes a superficial look at all the evil that is in the world one might be tempted to say that the earth belongs to Satan. But that is not true. The earth has been invaded by the forces of evil, subjecting creation to futility (Romans 8:20), but ownership of the earth remains in the hands of the Lord. I know this because the Bible tells us that He holds the title deed to the earth. Where does the Bible tell us that? In Revelation....

Observation: Is There A Pro Israel Mole In White House Or The Radical American Jewish Groups? Dr. Aaron Lerner Date: 19 July 2009 There are two possible explanations for the gift the Obama team gave to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu when, by specifically raising their objection to Jewish ownership of a building in the heart of Jerusalem, they succeeded in rallying all but the radical Israeli politicians to support Netanyahu's stance. We’re never going to have an atheist president, are we? Besides the one we have now, I mean. OH YES. The Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Wisconsin-based church-state watchdog group, claimed the engravings are unconstitutional and would exclude the 15% of Americans who identify themselves as non-religious… Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., who sponsored the bill in the Senate, said historical references to God should not be censored for political correctness. “The Founders based the Constitution and our laws on religious faith and principles that clear the way for individual freedom,” he said in a statement. “Our true motto, ‘In God...

Anyone who knows the history of ancient Israel also knows God’s people didn’t take His warning seriously. And it cost them dearly. When you cross over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, then you shall . . . destroy all their figured stones, and destroy all their molten images and demolish all their high places. . . But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall come about that those whom you let remain of them will become as pricks in your eyes and as thorns in your sides, and...

Well I must say, I had a great time reading the comments, critiques and insults that came in after my last post with its modest attempt to define "atheism". In particular, many self-described atheists took umbrage to my claim that atheism is denial of the proposition that God exists. (Apparently my smarmy attitude was also ripe for verbal assault.) One of my most spirited opponents drew comparisons between belief in God and unicorns as he/she asked: "do you believe in unicorns? Can you disprove the existence of unicorns?" The idea, presumably, is that belief in unicorns and God are equivalent....

About one out of every three scientists in the United States professed believing in God, a recent survey found. That figure is strikingly lower than the proportion of the general American public that say they believe in God (83 percent), according to the report by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. However, a Christian biochemist after examining the report said the comparably small number of scientists who believe in God is nothing to be alarmed over. Dr. Fazale Rana, vice president of research and apologetics at Reasons...

I got this in an email and it inspired me to register so I could share it. ---------------------------------------- The Conservative Creed. For a long time liberals in the media have been crowing that the Conservative movement has lost its way and needs "a new direction". I don't see what was wrong with our old one. I believe in the free market, competition, and entrepreneurship. I believe no small number of government programs don't work as advertised (or just don't work!) I believe this country would be a better place if we had fewer lawyers and more engineers. I believe America...

Remember the scene near the end of It's a Wonderful Life, where Jimmy Stewart, playing the role of George Bailey, breaks down in a pub, crying out to God in utter despair? (Watch the scene here; fast-forward to the 5:30 mark.) Apparently Stewart wasn't really acting; those tears were real. In this 1977 article that Stewart wrote for Guideposts, the actor recalls that George "is unaware that most of the people in town are arduously praying for him. In this scene, at the lowest point in George Bailey's life, Frank Capra was shooting a long shot of me slumped in...

As the birthday of our country draws near and we get ready to celebrate the independence we have enjoyed for 233 years, it is crucial we examine what we have had. Do we want to keep these freedoms or are we willing to let them slide out of existence? President Reagan once remarked, "If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under." Does that ring a bell? It is high time we make up our minds as we review this paragraph in the Declaration of Independence that was signed July...

'Keep God out of football' - Fifa tells Brazil's soccer superstars DANIEL KING 12th July 2009 Football’s governing body has sparked controversy after disciplining the Brazilian team for overt displays of Christianity during a match. Stars including £56million Real Madrid forward Kaka and captain Lucio revealed T-shirts with devout slogans such as ‘I Belong to Jesus’ and ‘I Love God’ during the Confederations Cup final last month. Now Fifa has risked accusations of being ‘anti-religious’ by reminding Brazil of its guidelines banning players from making displays of a personal, religious or political nature on the football pitch. AC Milan star...

With the election of abortion-friendly President Obama, abortion advocates have been praising the return of “science” to issues of reproductive health. Conversely, I am an advocate for the health of the unborn and question what “science” has to do with abortion on demand. Attempts to rationalize the morality of the abortion issue with abortion advocates is a losing proposition when they believe in subjective morality, i.e. morality is defined by the majority or, in this case, by the loudest contingent of the population. Therefore, let’s evaluate the issue on a more scientific basis...

Many conservatives have meditated upon the level of and the source of the left’s absolute hatred toward Sarah Palin. I have no quarrel with their perceptions; I have to say that David Letterman’s crass attempt at humor was the epitome of the supposedly presentable liberal exhibiting his skunky nether regions. I would add though that I think George W. Bush attracted just as much insane, slanderous foaming at the mouth. Perhaps with Sarah, due to some lingering notions of chivalry, the repeated eviscerations just seemed worse. But since both of them came in (and still do) for such malignant personal...

While filling up our car today, the guy in the lane next to us saw my "1-20-2013...or sooner God willing..." bumper sticker. I'm sitting in the car while my hubbie is pumping gas. In light of contemporay political and and social and religious conditions in the United States, I want to look at Psalm 2. rom Richard Dawkin’s God Delusion to Bill Maher’s Religulous, the media is filled with half-truths and whole lies about what it means to be a believer in God, and more often than not, Christian. Dawkin’s argues that there is contradictory evidence to the existence of God while Maher pokes fun at the members of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, while simultaneously asking the usual theological questions. For example: Do you think that, if when you were a kid, they transposed the Bible stories with fairy tales, that you would know the difference as an adult? Yes Mr. Maher, I would. It...

Our small group of twelve (some may not consider that quite a “small” group) met back in April for our semi-monthly Bible study. We delved into what honestly struck me at first as a slightly odd question; but as the research and discussion progressed, I felt we all discovered two things. First, it’s easy to get tangled up in specific words and the perception and meaning we each infer/attach to them. Second, we don’t understand prayer as well as we thought.
