On November 30th President Obama will join hordes of our ecological betters from around the world at the Paris Climate Summit. Weighty topics of how to save the planet will be discussed and agreements are expected which will further push the cause of eliminating carbon, fossil fuels and everything else we rely on to keep civilization chugging along. One of the leaders in the field of green energy and allegedly reduced carbon emissions has been Great Britain, which makes it all the more odd that just before the big confab kicks off, they’ve , preferring to focus on converting...

North Pole's Ancient Past Holds Lessons For Future Global Warming Detailed information on greenhouse gasses and a subtropical heat wave at the North Pole 55 million years ago is providing information about the Earth's past as well as a portent for its future, according to reports in the June 1 issue of Nature. An expedition to the Artic Ocean in 2004 by a team of scientists aboard a fleet of icebreakers collected samples by drilling into the floor of the ocean. The project was part of an international research effort, the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, which explores the Earth's history...

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Saturday called for Republicans to abandon the corrupting influence of the Koch brothers and other wealthy energy magnates. "This is a party that rejects science and refuses to understand that climate change is real," he said of GOP during the annual Blue Jamboree in North Charleston, S.C. "I understand if you stand up to the Koch brothers and the fossil fuel industry, that you'll lose your campaign contributions," the 2016 Democratic presidential candidate added. "[Climate change] is already causing devastating problems all over this world. To hell with the fossil fuel industry. Worry more about...

Summary: Over 100 cities have pledged to create bold climate action plans as President Obama & Secretary Kerry travel to Paris to negotiate an international climate agreement. In August, as part of an ambitious plan to expand renewable energy to households across America, President Obama called on all U.S. mayors to publicly commit to a local climate action plan. The President set a goal of at least 100 U.S. cities signing the Compact of Mayors prior to the Paris UN climate change meeting (“COPâ€). Today, that goal has not only been met, but surpassed. Why are U.S. cities so important...

Lehigh University engineering professor Yujie Ding and his wife, Yuliya Zotova, appeared to be talented researchers dedicated to advancing science, jurors in their federal fraud trial said. But the Upper Saucon Township couple's commitment to a $700,000 NASA research program turned fraudulent, jurors said, when Ding and Zotova failed to tell the space agency that Zotova's role in the project had ended. The jury Friday found Ding and Zotova guilty of six out of 10 counts of wire fraud for sending NASA fake invoices from the research company Ding owned and Zotova controlled.

Miami (AFP) - Last month was the hottest October in modern history and the first 10 months of the year have also set new records for worldwide warmth, US government scientists said Wednesday. The latest data means that 2015 is firmly on pace for being the most scorching since 1880, as global warming concerns mount ahead of key climate talks in Paris starting later this month. October marked the sixth month in a row that heat records were shattered across the planet, said the monthly report by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. "The globally averaged temperature over land...

Please, can we stop pandering to this suicidal ideology posing as a religion! Wait, what? You’re talking about Islam? I thought we were talking about Global Warming. I guess in the realm of relativism and moral equivalency they might both be considered the same. This could be the result of Radical Islam…or global warming. Whatever. Prominent Scientists Declare Climate Claims Ahead of UN Summit ‘Irrational’ – ‘Based On Nonsense’ – ‘Leading us down a false path’ - Climate Depot It would be hard to know which side to come down on in these debates because as Monty Python said, “it's such a...

MIT Climate Scientist Dr. Richard Lindzen: 'Demonization of CO2 is irrational at best and even modest warming is mostly beneficial.' - 'When someone says this is the warmest temperature on record. What are they talking about? It’s just nonsense. This is a very tiny change period.' Princeton Physicist Dr. Will Happer: 'Policies to slow CO2 emissions are really based on nonsense. We are being led down a false path. To call carbon dioxide a pollutant is really Orwellian. You are calling something a pollutant that we all produce. Where does that lead us eventually?' Greenpeace Co-Founder Dr. Patrick Moore: 'We...

The world is running out of storage facilities for surging supplies of oil and may soon exhaust tanker space offshore, raising the chances of a violent plunge in crude prices over coming weeks, experts have warned. Goldman Sachs told clients that the increasing glut of oil on the global market has combined with mild weather from a freak El Nino this winter. The twin-effect could send prices plummeting to $20 a barrel, the so-called ‘cash cost’ that forces drillers to abandon production. “Risks of a sharp leg lower remain elevated,†it said. Oil has fallen from $110 a barrel early...

Last month the Obama administration's Labor Department issued Interpretive Bulletin 2015-01, which tells pension funds what factors to use when choosing investments, including climate change. Only a few tax lawyers noticed, but with U.S. pensions at $9 trillion, this is a gross power grab that will hurt the retirees it claims to protect. This government is essentially saying: Don't you dare invest in anything that causes or is hurt by climate change, or you'll be sued for failing your fiduciary responsibilities. Energy, utilities and industrials are 20% of the market. How can pension funds now own any of them? Pushing...

Climate change advocates are optimistic that last Friday's terror attacks in Paris have improved the chances of an international climate deal being agreed upon at the upcoming United Nations talks being held in the French capital in less than two weeks. Andrew Steer, president of the World Resources Institute, said on a call with reporters on Wednesday that while there is no way to know for certain what the impact of the attacks will be on the Paris conference, the current spirit of global solidarity bodes well for cooperation.

Iraq may increase oil output further in 2016, although less dramatically than this year, intensifying a battle for market share between OPEC members and non-OPEC rivals that has forced Baghdad to sell some crude grades for as little as $30 a barrel. Iraq's output in 2015 has jumped almost 500,000 barrels per day (bpd), or 13 percent, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). That has made Iraq the world's fastest source of supply growth and a key driver of surging OPEC production. At most, that growth is likely to give way to a modest rise next year, easing downward...

Discord in Congress highlights the challenge for the U.S. of confronting global warming. Diplomats will descend on Paris at the end of November for United Nations climate talks that could prove pivotal in the fight against global warming. President Obama has labored to show that the U.S. is serious about taking action to stave off the worst impacts of rising temperatures. But Republican critics, led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, are warning the world that the president’s environmental promises are built on shaky ground—and could easily crumble. Republican opponents lack the votes to block the central pillars of the...

It is Margaret Atwood's 76th birthday, and her 2009 novel 'The Year of the Flood' seems an appropriate way to sum up the crude market this year. We await the weekly EIA inventory report this morning, with oil inventories less than 4 million barrels shy of the record of 490.9 mn bbls seen earlier in the year (...in itself an 80-year high). While a near-2 million barrel build is expected from today's report, last night's API report has put the putty cat among the pigeons by yielding a surprise draw of 0.4 mn bbls. The API report also showed a...

The horrific attacks in Paris prompted a swift response from French President Francois Hollande, as he dispatched an aircraft carrier to the Eastern Mediterranean a day after airstrikes hit the key city ISIS stronghold of Raqqa. The United States responded with airstrikes on Monday, November 16, targeting hundreds of trucks that the U.S. military believes are used for smuggling oil. The NYT reported that 116 trucks were destroyed in American airstrikes by A-10 planes and AC-130 gunships in eastern Syria. ISIS generates millions of dollars per day by smuggling oil from Syrian oil fields, a source of revenue that has...

The Daily Caller (11/17, Follett) reports that according to Representative Lamar Smith, chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, NASA's dedication toward climate research has reduced the funding available for its planetary science and exploration efforts. In an email to the Daily Caller News Foundation, Smith stated, "The Obama administration has consistently tried to cut NASA's space exploration budgets in order to fund increases for Earth science programs," adding, "Just this year, the president proposed drastically cutting NASA's exploration systems by more than $440 million dollars while Earth Science accounts have increased by 63 percent over the...

Rochester Gas & Electric filed with the New York State Public Service Commission on Nov. 10 a heavily-redacted copy of an Oct. 27 report on what it is doing, and plans to do, in case the Ginna nuclear plant of Exelon (NYSE: EXC) is retired later this decade. Since last year, Exelon has been working at the New York PSC and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to extend the life of Ginna, which the company says is not economic to operate in the current power market following the expiration last year of a long-term contract to supply power to...

Environmental activism among college students has recently been channeled into a movement to pressure college endowments to divest their holdings of stock in companies that extract fossil fuels. Beginning at Swarthmore College, the fossil fuel divestment movement (FFDM) has already had an impact on some colleges and universities, including Stanford, Georgetown, and Oxford. Many activists hope the FFDM will help persuade governments to restrict the extraction and use of fossil fuels. Whatever the economic consequences for colleges and universities, widespread divestment, particularly if it leads to restrictions on fossil fuels, will do a great deal of harm without much benefit...

On November 13, the same day as the terrorist attacks in Paris, USA Today ran a full-page ad from billionaire Tom Steyer’s group NextGen Climate highlighting the alleged global threat from climate change. As hundreds of people were being injured or killed in Paris, the ad featured these quotes about the “climate crisis:†Hillary Clinton: “An existential threat†Bernie Sanders: “The greatest threat facing the planet†Martin O’Malley: “Critical threat to our economy†In a new development, we have just learned from Judicial Watch that Hillary Clinton was characterized by her Muslim-connected aide, Huma Abedin, as being “very confused†about...
