A quick follow-up to our post this morning, featuring liberal 30-year-old Congressional wannabe Jon Ossoff's rocky interview on CNN today, in which he was pressed on the fact that he doesn't even live inside the district he wants to represent. No big deal, he says, explaining that he's supporting his girlfriend's medical education by residing 'down the road:' It's not an altogether terrible answer, although I'm not sure 'I'm living outside of the district to be with my girlfriend of 12 years' is an especially resonant explanation for suburban Georgians who may view him as under-experienced and too liberal.  He also refers to his...

On CNN this morning, Jon Ossoff – the Democratic frontrunner in the special election to replace Rep. Tom Price in Georgia’s sixth congressional district — was confronted with an amusing question: How does he feel about the fact that he can’t vote for himself today? This, of course, is because Ossoff is not a resident of the district he hopes to represent in Congress after today’s election. Ossoff quickly explained that he lives “down the street” from the district so that he can support his girlfriend while she finishes medical school. He noted that he grew up in the district...

Oh my! Leftist Democrat Tom Ossoff – trying to win the Georgia-CD-06 Special Election today to replace GOP Rep. Tom Price – didn’t plan on revealing to voters that he doesn’t even live in the district he wants to represent! But on CNN this morning he was asked about it (a random act of journalism from CNN!) and he admitted he lives outside the district with his girlfriend “of 12 years.” He says he grew up in the district and plans to move back to the district soon. . . .

Dearest Goddess Gaia, who art wherever, please deliver unto us just one lousy victory against the evil Trumpenreich..... The Democrats, and their mainstream media allies, are so desperate for just one electoral win to prove that President Donald Trump is on a downslide that they have even hailed no change in special elections since the November general election as some sort of moral victory. Below the surface, however, they know they need a victory in a special election. It wasn't delivered to them last week in Kansas in the special congressional election to fill the seat of Mike Pompeo who was...

State officials are investigating the theft last week of equipment from a Cobb County precinct manager’s car that could make every Georgia voters’ personal information vulnerable to theft. The equipment, used to check-in voters at the polls, was stolen Saturday evening, Secretary of State Brian Kemp said Monday.

The good news is that Jon Ossoff is succeeding in making the race for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District competitive. The bad news is that he’s probably not going to be going to the House of Representatives. According to a newly released poll, the 30-year-old Democrat will likely fall short of the 50 percent vote share in Tuesday’s election he needs to win the race outright. While Ossoff leads the crowded field of mostly Republicans vying to replace Republican Tom Price, who vacated the seat in February to serve as Trump’s Health and Human Services secretary, he is currently only polling...

It’s been 25 years since the 6th Congressional District was redrawn from rural west Georgia to the northern Atlanta suburbs, an area that was to become the launch pad for the Republican Revolution of 1994 and the political stronghold of House Speaker Newt Gingrich. Long the wealthiest district in the state, with more than its share of corporate headquarters, the 6th had spent nearly four decades under unchallenged GOP control when Congressman Tom Price left the seat vacant this February to become U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Democrats have turned to Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson to help get voter to rise up and flip Georgia’s 6th District on Tuesday. In a radio ad that launches Saturday, Jackson calls on voters to back a Democrat to send a message to Donald Trump. “Remember what happened the last time people stayed home: We got stuck with Trump,” he said. The ad, funded by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, does not mention Jon Ossoff’s name. But it’s clearly aimed at helping his candidacy as he tries to secure a majority of the vote Tuesday in the 18-candidate field to...

A little over a week ago, we saw that Red Racing Horses was trying to raise enough funds to conduct a poll in Georgia’s hotly contested Congressional contest. Public surveys have been rather scarce, with most releases having been sponsored by partisan sites or political organizations. We’ve whined in the past about a lack of more data points for special elections, so we decided to do something about it, and jumped in to help sponsor their work. For a full disclosure on their methodology and script, please contact them directly (a brief summary of their sample size, margin of error,...

@Nate_Cohn Day 14 of early voting in GA-6 is R 52, D 32--first day that Trump probably would have won. Over all, D 44, R 40 with 39419 votes counted

Republicans are becoming increasingly concerned about their ability to hang on to former Republican congressman Tom Price's seat here in a wealthy, suburban district where restive Democratic energy has been surging since November's election. Democratic hopes rest on Jon Ossoff, a 30-year-old former congressional staffer and preternaturally on-message candidate. He has raised a whopping $8.3 million for the special election to replace Price in Georgia's 6th Congressional District - more than anyone has ever collected to win this seat, which has not been represented by a Democrat for nearly four decades.

"As we learned from Scott Brown’s (R-MA) supermajority-breaking special election win in January of 2010, special elections can and sometimes do serve as harbingers for midterms. There are three upcoming special elections to replace House members who have joined President Trump’s cabinet, and each is turning out to be unexpectedly challenging for the GOP, who are expecting a low turnout in the wake of the Republicans gaining control of both Congress and the White House. Kansas, Georgia, and Montana will hold special elections this spring, and if the Democrats pick up one or more of these seats, their “resist we...

The Georgia Department of Transportation said it will take at least several months to repair Interstate 85, where an intense fire caused a section of the elevated northbound lanes to collapse during the Thursday evening rush hour.

Gov. Nathan Deal declared a state of emergency Thursday night after fire officials extinguished a massive fire on I-85 in Atlanta that led to the collapse of a bridge on the crowded interstate. The bridge on I-85 northbound just south of Ga. 400 near Piedmont Road collapsed about 7 p.m., Atlanta fire spokesman Sgt. Cortez Stafford confirmed. No injuries to motorists or first responders were reported. Officials said they still don't know how long it will take to fix the bridge, but they agree there is no underestimating the headache that awaits commuters. (snip) He said the cause of the...

Part of Interstate 85 collapsed north of downtown Atlanta Thursday night after a massive fire broke out under the busy highway during afternoon rush hour traffic. The fire broke out at around 6 p.m. Atlanta fire officials told Fox 5 the blaze caught giant spools of plastic utility conduits which were being stored under the overpass. No injuries to motorists or firefighters were reported. Georgia State Patrol Capt. Mark Perry told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that terrorism is not suspected. Prior to the collapse, structural engineers told FOX 5 they were worried about fire melting the metal under the bridge. Witnesses...

A oil or chemical fire, perhaps in a rail car under the I85 bridge in downtown Atlanta between I75 ,400, and I85 caused a section of I85 to collapse 1 hour ago. Traffic is expected to stopped for weeks until the elevated highway section is replaced.

The collapse of Republican efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare was bad news for Donald Trump’s HHS secretary, Tom Price, who will have to deal with bitter recriminations between his old friends in the House and his new boss in the White House. But you know what would make Price feel a whole lot worse? Being replaced in the House by a Democrat. For the first time, Democratic hopes of picking off this seat, once occupied by Senator Johnny Isakson, and before that by Newt Gingrich, are beginning to look like something more than wishful thinking. With the first round...
