People are putting their money where Conor McGregor’s mouth is. Though McGregor isn’t expected to leave his first professional boxing match a winner this weekend, if the brash UFC lightweight champ is somehow victorious, Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t be the biggest loser in Las Vegas. Despite the overwhelming consensus from experts that the 29-year-old Irishman has little chance to beat the undefeated boxing legend this weekend, bettors are overwhelmingly in McGregor’s corner — accounting for 89 percent of all action, according to BetOnline.ag — and could be setting the city’s sportsbooks up for one of its darkest days ever.

The Super Bowl is annually the biggest betting event of the year in the U.S. This year, though, it may be eclipsed by a boxing match. Kevin Bradley, the sports book manager of Bovada.lv, said betting on Mayweather-McGregor has been massive already. “We knew this fight would be big, potentially even bigger than the Super Bowl, but now we are almost certain it will be,” Bradley said. “The recent trash talking and promotional tour is only encouraging bets and at this rate we cannot even imagine how much we will take on it. One thing is for sure though, we...

Less than a year after famed (or infamous) media gossip site Gawker was forced to close by a eight-figure settlement in favor of wrestler Hulk Hogan, the successor to the former Gawker Media empire finds itself in the legal crosshairs. It's for another lawsuit seeking major damages — and it’s the same lawyer taking aim. I got a quick question for those who visit casinos. A while back I had the pleasure of watching an experienced gambler play craps at the Orleans Casino. He rolled the dice for nearly 60 minutes strait before "sevening out". After the dust had settled, he made off with 35k in chips. FYI: At that time the table was packed, I wasn't into craps because my favorite game is BlackJack...so no, I didn't get into the action..darn it. QUESTION: How does one do taxes in this situation? Do you have to fill out a tax form at the casino when...

Jaybird knew gambling can be addictive, and he made sure I never became a gambler by letting me gamble. Before long, I was handing over all of my hard-earned weekly allowance to him As a boy growing up on Dad’s Mississippi Delta farm in the 1950s, I looked forward to Saturdays, mainly because I didn’t have to go to school, but also because Friday’s paydays were always followed by Saturday’s dice games. I watched and listened, crouched beside Jaybird, my best friend and mentor. After I grasped the fundamentals of craps, as the old black man called the game, he...

The gambling industry here and football have been seeing each other secretly since the 1960s. But Monday’s 31-to-1 vote by league owners to permit the Oakland Raiders to move to Las Vegas with (for now) no stipulations about sports betting is a sign that the league’s and city’s status has changed from “it’s complicated” to “in a relationship.” The reason? Las Vegas has been sanitized a bit, and the National Football League isn’t as clean-cut as it once appeared. So what changed before Monday’s vote? Las Vegas is no longer a desert oasis dominated by gambling; it’s a major metropolitan...

Roger Goodell recently declared the NFL remained opposed to legalized sports wagering. The NFL commissioner’s reasons were trite, outdated and mocked by experts, but when has that ever stopped the NFL from doubling down (gambling term) on a policy? If Goodell says the league is opposed to sports wagering, then you rest assure that … … Welcome the Las Vegas Raiders … … Yeah, there is nothing that $750 million can’t buy. Whatever. Goodell is just the talking head for the league. His bosses voted Monday by the tune of 31-1 that the Raiders should move from Oakland to Las...

Most were ignored, some got replies say they do not offer odds on things like that. The Betfair...
