I had the privilege of attending Ty Woods' funeral this morning at the North Island Naval Air Station Chapel in Coronado. It was learned late Tuesday night that Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever has died in a single vehicle rollover accident in Coconino County. Details of what occurred are sketchy as of this hour, but the news was confirmed by Cochise County Supervisor Pat Call at about 11 p.m. Dever was running unopposed in this fall’s election for what would have been his fifth term as sheriff. YUCAIPA (CBS) — The community of Yucaipa is rallying around a soldier’s family. Army Private First Class Nathan Tyler Davis is scheduled to be buried Friday. Members of the notorious Westboro Baptist Church says they will picket the funeral. The group is known for picketing the funerals of soldiers — gay and straight — to protest what they believe is a country headed in the wrong direction when it comes to acceptance of gay rights. The group — which has about 40 members and mostly from one Topeka-based family — is considered a hate group by many.

Dozens of Hevron area Arabs went on the rampage Saturday night during the funerals for four Arabs who died in a traffic accident earlier in the day. The funeral of a 28 year-old waiter in southern Egypt turned into a celebration when he woke up after being declared dead. Hospital officials had pronounced dead Hamdi Hafez al-Nubi, who came from the village of Naga al-Simman in the southern province of Luxor, after he suffered a heart attack while working. His family says grieving relatives took him home and, according to Islamic tradition, washed his body and prepared him for burial Friday evening.
