-snip- 24. Power Line From practically the day they sprang into existence, blogs have been denigrated as trivial, inaccurate, and derivative. Untrained writers could never match the accuracy and depth of newspapers and network news. Power Line, a scrappy right-wing blog, turned that perception on its ear when it took down one of old media’s most venerable figures: Dan Rather. In September 2004, Rather and CBS News aired an explosive story about George W. Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard. The report used military documents to show that Bush had received preferential treatment and performed poorly while failing...

I received an unusual email from FR today: On Mon Sep 16 12:23:52 2013 somebody at the Internet address 138.162.0.42 requested this information to be sent to you. Upon request, I have collected links to many of the earliest threads from September 11, 2001 below. Feel free to add other significant threads, including photo archives. Bumping this thread periodically instead of the original threads will also avoid scaring people with the headlines. Bookmark this thread, and bump it from time to time when the nation and the press seems to forget why we need resolve in the face of evil. Forgive some of the early misinformation and broken photo links, and recall the horror and fury.

The vast majority of stories posted here that support conservative positions or trash liberals/progressives are from publications that only conservative minded people read. It makes FR kind of an echo chamber, in that, no or very few minds will be changed unless the articles posted here start showing up in the popular media of big city newspapers and network television. I wish it was different, but alas, it isn't

I am pretty upset right now. I posted Sarah latest Facebook in the frontpage news around 9pm - and it's gone again - and some stupid posts stay there for a week!!! What is the problem??? Jim, why an important post from Sarah concerning obama and Syria - cannot be more news than that - could not stay in frontpage news for more than an hour when here is no new major news??? I want to know how much we must pay to stay there more than an hour? I regret my $10!

When is Free Republic going to fix this bug that truncates the forum page?
-
Why does a photo of LD Jackson appear when you Google freerepublic ?
-
Everyone please send whatever you are able to, whether it is $10, $100 or $1,000+. The ACORNs, ANSWER commies, Code Pink, Union thugs, DUmmies, OFA's, HuffandBlows, Morons, Kos Kiddies and that crew are laughing up their sleeves. Jim may have to make this site members only or allow ads or some other radical thing. Better for us to just help with what we can. Maybe you can donate as a memorial for a lost loved one, a servicemember who never made it home or was disabled defending freedom. Perhaps you'd like to give to keep free discussion alive and to...

After yesterday's server constipation, we now see THIS: Server error The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/post_article?forum=chat. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. Here are some suggestions: Reload this webpage later. HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.

Be it freepmail or comments or posting articles, every page comes up blank. I have to reload it in order to see the posting boxes. Is anyone else incurring this problem? Does anyone know what is causing this problem?

Why is FR repeatedly having this problem? Over & over.... Why cant it be solved once and for all?

Am I the only one having issues displaying threads on the forum this morning? Threads with less than 50 posts appear to display fine. Threads with more than 50 replies to them I see perhaps the first 12-15 posts in the thread and that's it. I don't see the page footer or anything else, the page just truncates. Also, I've noticed if I click on a specific message link to a thread, I don't get that message link displayed, rather I see replies above or below that link. For example, if Person A replied to Person B, and the link...

Dear FRiends, A FReeper sent me a short list of names this morning that he says he found on an internet site that matched up freeper names to their real names. He says he managed to get the site owner to delete it and we can thank him for that. But in the message he sent me there was also an accusation that the list was provided to a third party by John Robinson. That's bullshit. John would never do such a thing. On a hunch, I looked up the listed names on FR's facebook page and sure enough all...

I heard Rush mention Free Republic Freepers on his show today. I am not a Rush Subscriber so I cannot post link.

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Here is Bill in Gainesville, Florida. Bill, I'm glad you waited. It's great to have you on the program today, sir. Hello. CALLER: Hey, Rush, I'm honored. I think this is a great segue, I hope. I'm grateful for Mr. O'Keefe. I'm 53 years old and single. I'm self-employed. I've got a big footprint. I've got six kids that I've raised here in Gainesville, Florida, and the only ability that I feel like I have is my vote, and I wanted to ask you about the birth of the Tea Party. RUSH: Yeah? CALLER: I think it...

“There was a group in the 1990′s that were malcontents, renegades, off the mainstream plantation of conservativism…and those are the people that were the early participants in the website Free Republic– they were known as 'freepers'…”
-
Rush Limbaugh just spent about 5 minutes talking about Free Republic as being the forerunner to the TEA Party and a group rejecting the progressive leadership of the Republican Party during the Clinton administration. Very positive.

About an hour ago someone complained that FR wasn't fully displaying on his computer. I checked on some longer threads as well as the comments display, and it was working fine for me. I'm using Firefox Beta 23 on Win 7. Then, I happened to update my Java to Java 7 Release 25. Lo and behold, the partial display bug appeared for me when I checked back into FR. The same problem exists when I use Chrome, so I presume it's the Java update that's causing the problem. Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
