Michelle Obama and Jill Biden will attend Game One of the World Series in NYC Wednesday -- and both will take the field for opening ceremonies. Major League Baseball announced just now that as part of a program dedicated to welcoming back veterans, the first and second lady will accompany two dignitaries: Navy World War II vet and Yankee legend Yogi Berra, and Tony Odierno, who lost an arm in Iraq. Odierno is the son of Gen. Raymond Odierno, commanding general of the multi-national force in Iraq. The younger Odierno received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his...

If you need to recall what National Pride feels like, take a moment to view this video. Please keep the comments to the event of Oct. 30, 2001. (The MSM gave King Obama enough accolades over his 1st pitch already!)Video of a great American moment!

If you're a sports fan, you have to feel good that one among us works in the Oval Office. -snip-- Which brings us to his ceremonial first pitch Tuesday night at the All-Star Game. How best to put this? He throws like a ... wait, I'm not going to say it. It's not worth the protests by the U.S. women's national softball team that inevitably will blossom outside Tribune Tower. Let's just say he throws like someone who hardly has played sports. If the Cardinals' Albert Pujols hadn't stepped up and made a catch, Obama's pitch would have bounced in...

Those of you who watched the beginning of the All Star game last night will have noticed that, when President Obama threw the first pitch, the camera shot was a close-up that made it impossible to see whether his pitch was on target. I found this odd, and so did Andy McCarthy. I'll make an educated guess that this was done at the insistence of the White House to prevent embarrassment in case Obama's pitch was a poor one. To be sure, the White House ultimately could not prevent everyone from seeing a bad pitch (YouTube and all of that),...

Yes there is political significance of a girly pitch

July 16, 2009 A Real Curve for White Sox Fans Matthew May So the President of the United States cannot throw a baseball with any sort of velocity or modicum of athletic grace. So what? He is at best an average basketball player, but it's easy to look great when you aren't being guarded. Certainly it would be gravy for baseball fans if all of our chiefs were able to duplicate what George W. Bush did at Yankee Stadium during the 2001 World Series. It would be lovely if they could fondly reminisce about their own days in the sandlots...

In which CNN totally redeems itself for the other mom-themed political video they foisted on us today. Watch closely here and you’ll see the tweet that was sent to me last night — and which I linked in our post about The One throwing out the first pitch — flash by for a second or two. Good lord: Did Hot Air launch the Obama “mom jeans” meme? Behold my proudest moment as a blogger, my friends.

There is a center field camera angle of Obama's ceremonial first pitch about 28 seconds into the video.

Some pundits are using President Barack Obama's throwing out the first pitch at the 2009 All Stars Baseball game to find a new way to criticize him. Apparently, though it was not readily apparent to TV audience, Obama throws like a girl. The account by Examiner Larry Amon was typical. "Yesterday, at the major league all star game President Obama threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Now politically this doesn't matter much but for a president who has carefully crafted his image, especially as a sports enthusiast, it's worth noting that President Obama is not much of a baseball player....

On Wednesday’s CBS Early Show co-host Russ Mitchell described President Obama’s lackluster first pitch at Tuesday night’s All-Star game in St. Louis: "And it appears President Obama has a wicked sinker."

Top 6 Observations about the President's First Pitch: 6. Too Cool for School. Why was he wearing baggy jeans? He looked completely out of place at a ball park in July. 5. Super Bowl Shuffle. Why did he shuffle/jog to the mound? His gait looked more appropriate for a basketball introduction? 4. Camera Angle-Gate....

Barack Obama Booed at the All-Star Game in St. Louis On Tuesday! And, he threw a sissy pitch: It's going to be a rough 4 years. He's only been in office 5 months and he's already getting booed. ...And protested.
-
The more debatable point from the historic moment was the reception the President was afforded by the self-described "best fans in baseball." Though Obama was roundly cheered by the All-Star fans, his live presence still didn't attract the applause that George W. Bush did during a taped announcement by the four previous Presidents before the game and some boos could even be heard among the cheers.

Sorry for the vanity. Numerous people have been posting at various sites that they have heard from people at the game that there was a loud chorus of boos for 0bama. (AKA Lamar, the limp wristed javeline thrower from Revenge of the Nerds). There may have been an effort to either pipe in cheers over the public address system, edit out some of the boos or both. Anyone else getting this?

Bush's pitch: understated form, good velocity, perfect strike. ....in a BIG moment. Obama's pitch: Poseur/effeminate form, weak velocity, and errant (short).

So forget politics for a moment and just watch the video below. It’s a great behind-the-scenes look at the build-up to Bush’s first pitch at the 2001 World Series, and the strike he fired with the lights shining bright.

President Obama won't throw the ceremonial first pitch before the Washington Nationals' home opener Monday. According to a White House aide, Obama will decline the team's invitation to throw the pitch before the game against the Philadelphia Phillies, brushing back a presidential tradition that dates to 1910.

Bush throws first pitch at Rangers home opener The ball easily makes it over the plate and to Josh Hamilton's mitt April. 6, 2009 ARLINGTON, Texas - Former President George W. Bush wound up his right arm with two windmill whirls, then fired a high strike to help the Texas Rangers start the season Monday. In his first big appearance locally since moving to Dallas from the White House, Bush received a standing ovation and overwhelming cheers from a crowd of about 40,000 after the public address announcer said, "We welcome home the 43rd president." Bush, the team's managing general...

Bill and Hillary are at a Yankees home game, sitting in the first row, with the Secret Service people directly behind them. One of the Secret Service guys leans forward and whispers something to Bill. At first, Clinton stares at the guy, looks at Hillary, looks back at agent, and shakes his head "no." The agent then says, "Mr. President, it was a unanimous request of the entire team, from the owner of the team to the bat boy." Bill hesitates...but begins to change his mind when the agent tells him the fans would love it! Bill shrugs his shoulders...

President Bush threw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals' home opener last night at RFK Stadium, a responsibility he considered much more than ceremonial. "I am a baseball fan, and I love great moments in baseball," Mr. Bush said yesterday morning in an interview in the Oval Office. "Tonight, for me personally, is going to be a great moment for baseball. It is also a great thrill as a baseball fan to be invited to throw out a pitch."

HBO recently aired a documentary titled Nine Innings from Ground Zero that tells the story of the 2001 World Series in New York. The series helped to bring back hope and optimism to the people of America following September 11. Through interviews with players, fans, families, and even the President, the film recalls a difficult time that we came through together. This is a clip of that documentary. Very heartwarming!! President Bush left the White House, Monday, April 5, 2004, for a trip to Charlotte, North Carolina to speak on job training and attend a Bush-Cheney 2004 luncheon. Bush will then attend a opening day major league baseball game in St. Louis, Missouri, throwing out the first pitch, before heading to his Crawford, Texas ranch for the rest of week.

Cheney to toss first pitch at Rangers' home opener 04/03/2002 By G. ROBERT HILLMAN / Washington Bureau of The Dallas Morning News WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney will throw out the first ball Friday afternoon at the Rangers' home opener against the Anaheim Angels, the White House said Friday. The game starts at 2:05 p.m. Mr. Cheney, who is on a cross-country political fund-raising tour, will head directly to The Ballpark in Arlington and plans no other appearances in the area, spokeswoman Cathy Martin said.
