I have been somewhat reluctant to write about my encounters with Jihad Jane/Fatima LaRose because I have come to the conclusion that notoriety was exactly what she was always after, probably having given up on respect or happiness long ago. She struck me as someone whose entire life was one big, desperate cry for attention and help. It never occurred to me that she was actually dangerous, just a pathetic wannabe who wanted to be accepted by other Muslims suffering from teenage angst. I was wrong. A MySpace profile for a woman who refers to herself as JihadJane displays pictures of bloodshed and violence in the Middle East scrawled with messages like “Palestine We Are With You” and “Sympathize With Gaza.” ... A Pennsylvania woman known to authorities as "Jihad Jane" was charged with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, making false statements to a government official and attempted identity theft. The indictment, unsealed Monday, charges that Colleen R. LaRose, and five unindicted co-conspirators recruited men on the Internet to wage violent jihad in South Asia and Europe, and recruited women on the Internet who had passports and the ability to travel to and around Europe in support of violent jihad.
