President Trump on Sunday night mocked Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos as "Jeff Bozo" in a tweet slamming The Washington Post, which Bezos owns. "So sorry to hear the news about Jeff Bozo being taken down by a competitor whose reporting, I understand, is far more accurate than the reporting in his lobbyist newspaper, the Amazon Washington Post," Trump tweeted. "Hopefully the paper will soon be placed in better & more responsible hands!" Trump's tweets came shortly after The National Enquirer came out with the latest in a series of articles about Bezos's divorce from his wife of 25 years. American...

Special counsel Robert Mueller on Monday night released a memo detailing then-national security adviser Michael Flynn's interview with FBI agents, in which Flynn repeatedly lied about his contacts with former Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The FBI officials who interviewed Flynn, including former agent Peter Strzok, gave him multiple opportunities to describe his conversations with Kislyak. Flynn denied that he spoke to the then-Russian ambassador about sanctions. The memo about the FBI interview was filed by Mueller in federal court in Washington, D.C. Flynn is set to be sentenced in that federal court on Tuesday. DEVELOPING

Former GOP Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.) on Sunday said he believes the Democratic Party could win in 2020 if they pick someone "unexpected" as their party's presidential nominee. Santorum, asked if there were any potential Democratic candidates he was afraid of, pointed to previous presidential contests, saying all of the Democratic candidates who won were "not the favorite" at the time. "When the Democrats win, they pick someone unexpected or someone who’s not the favorite," Santorum, a CNN analyst, said on CNN's "State of the Union." "[Former Presidents] Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter," he listed. "When they pick [failed...

A group of 38 GOP lawmakers is protesting the inclusion of protections for LGBT workers in the newly negotiated U.S. trade proposal with Mexico and Canada. The House GOP members are calling on Trump to drop language protecting workers from "discrimination on the basis of sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity" from the new North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) deal, as first highlighted by Politico. “A trade agreement is no place for the adoption of social policy,” the lawmakers wrote in a Nov. 16 letter. “It is especially inappropriate and insulting to our sovereignty to needlessly submit to...

The NAACP on Thursday rescinded its support for Puerto Rican statehood. The civil rights group emphasized Puerto Rican "self-determination" in a statement walking back its endorsement of a bill that would make Puerto Rico the 51st state, which it voted to support on Tuesday. "Puerto Rico should be free to decide its preferred option in a fair and inclusive manner," the NAACP said, adding that it has a "long history of supporting the democratic value of self-determination." In a statement on Tuesday, the NAACP threw its weight behind the Puerto Rican Admission Act after an appeal from Gov. Ricardo Rosselló,...

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday discussed ways he plans to work with Brazilian president-elect Jair Bolsonaro, the controversial right-wing populist who won around 55 percent of the vote after a volatile and divisive presidential campaign. Pompeo in a phone call congratulated Bolsonaro on the win and discussed collaboration on issues including Venezuela, transnational crime and economic ties between "the two largest economies in the Western Hemisphere," State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement. ADVERTISEMENT The call comes days after a group of House Democrats penned a letter to Pompeo asking him to condemn Bolsonaro, who was...

The New York Times's opinion department is partnering with comedian Niecy Nash on a new satirical hotline for white people to call when they can't "cope with black people living life near them." The hotline mocks the rash of real-world incidents over the past year in which white people have called the police on black people who are not doing anything illegal. Viral videos and stories have featured white callers notifying authorities as nearby African-Americans participate in family barbecues, nap in a college dorm lounge, move into their new homes and other innocuous activities. Between cellphone cameras and social media,...

Former President Obama on Monday urged a crowd in Las Vegas to "remember who started" the current economic boom, reminding them that the country recovered from the Great Recession during his presidency. Obama echoed language from President Trump, who in July claimed his administration unleashed an "economic miracle" with tax cuts legislation. "When I walked into office ten years ago, we were in the middle of the worst economic crisis of our lifetimes," Obama said at a rally for Nevada Democrats. "By the time I left office, wages were rising, uninsurance rate was falling, poverty was falling, and that’s what...

A Kentucky man went viral this week after going online to lament the fact that his name is similar to that of Brett Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court nominee who was confirmed after a weeks-long controversy involving multiple allegations of sexual assault. Kentucky's Brett Kavanagh, who spells his name without a "u," told local outlet Louisville Courier Journal that it became increasingly "crazy" having the same name as a man who was at the center of a dramatic nationwide controversy. Kavanagh went viral with a tweet saying "This is a terrible time to be named Brett Kavanagh," which has been "liked"...

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) on Sunday criticized the Maine progressive groups that have pledged millions of dollars to her 2020 opponent in opposition to her vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Collins on CBS's "60 Minutes" on Sunday called the crowdfunding effort an attempt to "buy votes and buy positions." She said it did not influence her decision to vote in Kavanaugh's favor. "This is a classic quid pro quo as defined in our bribery laws," Collins said. "They are asking me to perform an official act and if I do not do what they want, two million plus...

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Monday defended himself against the sexual assault allegations roiling his nomination by saying he was a virgin through high school and college. "We’re talking about an allegation of sexual assault," Kavanaugh said in a clip released from his interview on Fox News Channel's "The Story with Martha MacCallum." "I’ve never sexually assaulted anyone," Kavanaugh said. "I did not have sexual intercourse or anything close to sexual intercourse in high school or for many years thereafter ... The girls from the schools I went to, and I, were friends." "Through all these years that were...

Former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman on Monday released new tapes of President Trump in a private meeting talking about former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's ties to Russia. Manigault Newman played the audio recording on ABC's "The View," prefacing it by saying it is from an October 2017 meeting with the White House communications and press teams. "When Donald Trump got bored, which was very often because his attention span was very short, he would sometimes try to figure out what meetings were taking place in the White House and he would crash those meetings," Manigault Newman said....

Mitt Romney (R) said the "last 24 hours" have confirmed his "faith" in the U.S. justice system after President Trump's former campaign chairman was convicted on eight felony counts while his former personal lawyer pleaded guilty to various counts including campaign finance law violations. "The events of the last 24 hours confirm that conduct by highly-placed individuals was both dishonorable and illegal," Romney, who is running for the Senate in Utah, wrote in a tweet on Wednesday. "Also confirmed is my faith in our justice system and my conviction that we are a nation committed to the rule of law."...

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) slammed President Trump over his comments about Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) during a rally on Thursday night. Trump at the campaign-style rally in Montana called Waters a “low-IQ individual,” a claim that he has repeated many times. He speculated her IQ is “somewhere in the mid-60s.” The average IQ is 85-114, and a mid-60s IQ indicates mental challenges....
