KFC Corp. says it's investigating allegations that an employee in Jackson, Mississippi, asked a 3-year-old to leave a restaurant because her facial injuries frightened other patrons. A spokesman says KFC is also giving $30,000 toward her medical bills. The allegation was made Thursday on "Victoria's Victories," a Facebook page following Victoria Wilcher's recovery from a pit bull attack in April. Photos show her facial scars and cartoon-decorated eye patch.

JACKSON, Miss. —A 3-year-old girl who was attacked by pit bulls in April was asked to leave a Jackson restaurant because her scars scared customers, the girl's grandmother told 16 WAPT News. "Does this face look scary to you?" accompanied a picture of Victoria Wilcher on the Facebook page Victoria's Victories, which documents the child's recovery from the attack at her grandfather's home in Simpson County. Authorities said one of Donald Mullins' dogs ripped open the back door and jumped on the girl. Two other dogs dragged her into the back yard and began mauling her, investigators said. "The right...

Pig created a sensation at this year's Do Dah Day festival. The unusual, oddly shaped dog has an equally unusual story. -snip- As would be expected, Pig's unusual appearance draws attention whenever Dillenbeck takes her out in public. But beyond appearances, Pig is, well, just a happy, fun-loving dog who likes to play fetch or wrestle with her housemates Lady and Tank, Welsh Corgis Dillenbeck has had for years. Pig loves snacks and food and naps. -snip- "Pig doesn't know there's anything wrong with her," Dillenbeck said. And true, that's the way Pig acts. But she has plenty of issues....

Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is in “good enough physical condition to allow him to return to the United States,” but he’s “not ready psychologically or emotionally,” U.S. officials confirmed to NBC News on Sunday. For now, Bergdahl will remain at the U.S. military hospital at Landstuhl Germany for treatment. Although he’s been permitted to talk to his parents, Bergdahl has so far chosen not to call his family in Idaho, the officials said. No specific reason for Bergdahl’s mindstate were given except that he continues treatment for psychological and emotional problems as a result of his five years in captivity.

Two women have been jailed for a year after their neighbor was “literally eaten alive” by their hungry dog. Hayley Sulley, 30, and Della Woods, 29, of Norris Green in Liverpool were at a barbecue when their presa canario crossbreed, Charlie, made his way into the backyard of the women’s retired neighbour, Clifford Clarke, 79. The dog had not been fed for 45 hours and was eating plastic bowls, cigarette butts and drinking dirty water. Clarke, who had celebrated his birthday just the day before, was cooking lamb and had left his kitchen door open. Clarke was attacked so badly,...

MILWAUKEE — Jane Flint was at work when a friend called and warned her that Milwaukee police were about to search her home for endangered reptiles. She rushed home to keep her four boisterous dogs from interfering with police, but before she arrived, officers shot and killed two of the Tibetan mastiffs. She's never been told her why. Milwaukee police shoot and kill dozens of dogs each year, often saying the animals appeared to be a threat to officers or to the public. But in response to criticism and two lawsuits, police have been able to reduce that number with...

That's when the puppy jumped in with him. "The dog just jumped into the car and hit the gear shift ... when she slammed it into drive she fell on top of the gas pedal,"

Portsmouth resident Lisa Potts was sitting at home when she heard what she thought was a child crying outside. She ran to investigate and saw the young doberman in the middle of the street, and her two new neighbors running towards him, stopping traffic in his lane. Out in front of America’s troops, combat canines and their handlers lead the way onto the most dangerous battlefields on Earth. This is what a dog handler tries not to dwell on: the risk associated with the need to find bombs and with the possibility of missing one. At the height of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S. military had a force of roughly 2,500 military working dogs (MWDs). Some have entered our national lexicon as heroes in their own right

Hundreds of stray and abandoned dogs are waiting for adoption at the San Diego Humane Society. The population problem is caused, in large part, by the cost of spaying and neutering to prevent unwanted births. "Being able to very safely and cheaply neuter most male dogs, that can make a huge difference in the number of dogs that roam the streets,” said Dr. Holly Mullin of the VCA Animal Hospital in Hotel Circle. It costs hundreds of dollars to neuter a male dog, but a new injectable solution called Zeuterin could change that. It stops sperm production forever with a...

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Several combat veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder were denied access to a Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in Viera because their service dogs apparently didn’t have the proper paperwork. The vets were rebuffed by security officers. But when they refused to leave the situation nearly spiraled out of control. Rory Dobis, founder of Paws 4 Boots, told Watchdog.org that he was attempting to assist several veterans in acclimating their dogs to the VA facility where they regularly come to receive physical and mental health treatment.
