Prometheus caused blind hopes to live in the hearts of men. ~ Aeschylus' "Prometheus" (fifth century B.C.) Prometheus having his liver eaten out by an eagle. Painting by Jacob Jordaens, c. 1640. The ancient Greek myth of Prometheus is the tragic and enduring narrative of a heroic figure who many publicly despised but secretly venerated, because he did feats of strength that others had neither the vision, intellect nor the heart to achieve. Prometheus, renown for his clever intelligence, became a champion of humanity when he stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mortals. For this crime Prometheus was...

Conservative talk radio is like a big pot of soup filled with chunks of carrots, potatoes, celery, tomatoes, corn and whatever other vegetables were tossed in. Each personality is different, but they contribute to the overall flavor. Liberal talk radio is a similar pot of soup with the same ingredients but it's been pureed. There are no lumps, and it all looks the same bland with no personality. It's no surprise then that conservatives get attention and criticism from the political opposition, which doesn't like to be confronted with differing thoughts and ideas. Political correctness clashes with reasoned opinions....

Great Britain's decision to ban Michael Savage because of his "extreme views" marks a dark day in the history of free speech. The shame should be particularly severe in a nation that gave birth to John Stuart Mill, the 19th century political philosopher whose writings so strongly advanced the cause of open dialogue. Mill argued in his pivotal essay "On Liberty" that intolerance to hear opposing views amounts to an assertion that the politically correct view is infallible. Doubting that any human view could be without error, Mill fought hard to convince readers of the importance of encouraging the expression...

During the past month the British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has been embroiled in a scandal involving the purchase by her husband of pornographic films; the media have grabbed onto this story with glee because it is an engaging distraction from the horrendous credit crisis and other world calamities. Because the films were acquired on an expense account, she promised to repay the government. Back in March she had been accused of double-charging said government for her accommodation; this story, which also related to other politicians, dominated the news cycle for several weeks. Unfortunately Jacqui Smith seems unable to avoid...

I have a confession to make; I am a fan of Dr. Michael Savage. Before you get all blue in the face and start screaming at me about how hateful he is I will admit sometimes he says things I dont agree with. I didnt agree with everything my grandmother used to say either but I never threw her under the bus when it served my purpose like a certain President of the United States. Dr. Savage sometimes uses language I find offensive but then again so do Barack Obama and a number of his friends.

(CNSNews.com) The senior British government minister who included U.S. radio talk show host Michael Savage on a list of people banned from the U.K. for stirring up hatred may lose her post in a forthcoming cabinet reshuffle. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has courted controversy in her position, which focuses on law and order, but the threat to her cabinet career stems from a dispute over housing expenses claims, according to reports in Fleet Street tabloids Wednesday. The expenses row was exacerbated earlier this year by the embarrassing revelation that her husband, Richard Timney, had included the cost of two...

I consider myself a reasonable person. I do not subscribe to any of the many conspiracy theories designed to strike fear in the hearts of patriotic Americans. I have studied world history and American history and am a paid political commentator with my own daily talk radio program. And the news this week that my colleague Dr. Michael Savage has been banned from Great Britain sent a shudder down my spine. While Michael joins the likes of the Honorable Geert Wilders, Dutch parliamentarian, he is also on the list with racists, murderers and radical Islamic terrorists. Oh, excuse me, "man...

When I awoke Tuesday morning, I ambled over to the computer, as is my wont, and made my usual cyber rounds. I logged on to the Drudge Report and, lo and behold, saw the following headline, "RADIO HOST MICHAEL SAVAGE BANNED FROM UK FOR 'EXTREME VIEWS'...." "Wow," I thought, "Britain strikes again." The prohibition is the handiwork of England's Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, who included Savage on a list of 16 unwelcome individuals whom she wanted to "name and shame." According to Beverley Rouse writing in The Independent, Smith says this is "so others could better understand what sort of...

I don't believe for a minute that the United Kingdom decided to ban entry to U.S. talk-radio star Michael Savage on its own initiative. First of all, Savage was not asking to enter the U.K. Second of all, while Savage is a big fish in the U.S., his program is not widely known across the pond. What would possess Home Secretary Jacqui Smith to single out Savage on a short list of 16 people worldwide who would not be welcome? I think I know the answer. But first, you have to understand the backdrop to this story. Barack Obama and...

SFGate... San Francisco-based conservative talk show host Michael Savage -- whose sharp-tongued right-wing commentary has earned him headlines across the U.S. -- is making news again: He's been banned in Britain. ... "When I woke up and saw this this morning ... my first thought was, damn, there goes the summer trip where I planned to have my dental work done," the "Savage Nation" host joked. "My second thought was, darn ... there goes my visit to the restaurants of England for their great cuisine." But, he added, the issue is no laughing matter -- and represents a serious threat...

She led a charge to restrict the word "terrorism," instead urging government employees to refer to the phenomenon as "anti-Islamic activity." She had been labeled a "pocket dictator," with some of her practices referred to by media critics as "truly Big Brother stuff." She attempted to introduce a giant government database to track all citizen e-mails, phone calls and Internet activity. Meet Jacqui Smith, the British home secretary who today made public a list of individuals banned from the U.K. since October, including radio superstar Michael Savage. She announced she decided to release the list so others could better understand...

Savage's colleagues react in horror 'Thank God we broke away from that cowardly country' WASHINGTON Michael Savage's talk-radio colleagues and competitors reacted in horror today to news that the No. 3 host in the U.S. was banned from entering the United Kingdom "As a host who witnessed first hand the hate speech not only tolerated but encouraged by the U.K., I am appalled and amused at the suggestion that Michael Savage is banned from the U.K. for his speech," said Rusty Humphries of Talk Radio Network. "Thank God we broke away from that cowardly country." Lars Larson, a Pacific...

LONDON For the first time, Britain today published a list of people barred from entering the country for allegedly fostering extremism or hatred, including Muslim extremists, a right-wing American radio host, an Israeli settler and jailed Russian gang members. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she decided to publish the names of 16 of 22 people who have been banned by the government since October so others could better understand what sort of behavior Britain was not prepared to tolerate. She cited unidentified "public interest" reasons for not disclosing the other six names. "I think it's important that people understand...

Talk radio host Michael Savage is considering legal action against Britain's top homeland security official after she released today a list grouping him with terrorists and neo-Nazi murderers banned from entry because the government believes their views might provoke violence. In a telephone interview with WND, Savage said he is still waiting to hear back from attorneys, but he noted Britain has very strict anti-defamation laws. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she decided to publicize the list of 16 people banned since October to show the type of behavior Britain will not tolerate, according to U.K. news reports. Savage's immediate...

Warner Bros. today will launch a service giving the public the opportunity to custom-order DVDs of films never before released via the medium. The move is seen as a response to dwindling DVD sales and also to customer demand for titles that while not totally obscure, didn't necessarily generate enough heat to merit a full-on DVD release. The Warner Archive Collection, available at WarnerArchive.com, includes films dating back to the silent age and for $19.95 per disc Warners will burn, package and ship for receipt within an estimated five days. Currently there are 150 titles available with for a total...
