The unidentified students face felony aggravated assault and assault by mob charges, police said. A seventh student was suspended in connection with the incident. The changes to the discipline code should result in far fewer suspensions, CBS 2’s Vanessa Murdock reported Wednesday. “Our goal is to make sure the schools are providing a safe environment for our students, but also we just don’t push students out of the classroom where they’re not learning as well,” Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said. The Southern Poverty Law Center has filed a federal complaint against the Okaloosa County School District, alleging disciplinary discrimination toward black students. Although the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly discourages spanking, at least half of parents admit to physically punishing their children.
