Irondequoit, N.Y. --- Monroe County will soon be home to two lawmakers named “Joseph D. Morelle.” On Wednesday Monroe County Democratic Party Chairman Joe Morelle (also a New York State Assemblyman) will recommend that his son, Joe Morelle Jr., fill a vacant seat in the county legislature. The vacancy comes in the wake of Democrat Ted O’Brien’s election to the New York State Senate in November. O’Brien reportedly approached Morelle Jr., 24, about filling his seat immediately after the November election. His name was then presented to the Irondequoit Democratic Committee for a vote and he received unanimous support. Morelle...

If you are one of the folks who voted for Barack Obama in the last election, what did you vote for? More generally, if you voted for any liberal politician, what did you vote for? Here are three things for starters: (1) no reform of the public schools, (2) no reform of the welfare system, and (3) no reform of labor market institutions that erect barriers between new entrants and good jobs. How can I be so certain? Because the teachers unions, the welfare bureaucracy and all the other unions form the base of the Democratic Party. At least they...

Our government has been hijacked by a party obsessed with a higher power. But I’m not talking about the GOP. I’m talking about the left and their worship of government. As Washington staggers into a new year, one side of the political spectrum polarizes and paralyzes all ongoing debates due to its irrational reliance on a higher power. The problem isn’t religious conservatives and their abiding faith in God; it’s mainstream liberals and their blind confidence in government. Consider the current dispute over the right response to gun violence. At its core, this argument comes down to a visceral disagreement...

Representative Stephen “Stat” Smith, 57, faces up to two years in prison, and prosecutors will recommend a 6-month sentence, according to his plea agreement. Smith has also agreed to vacate his seat, effective Jan. 1, and not seek elective office for five years from the date of his sentencing. A plea date has not been set. Smith did not return messages seeking comment Thursday. One of his...

God does not change. His Word does not change. No matter how sick and degenerate a society becomes in “celebrating” sinful behavior, sin will always be sin, and unrepentant men will be held accountable to God for their sins against Him. America is in a spiritually dangerous place. Today, sin is defended as “choice” when women choose to kill their pre-born babies, and sinful behavior is lauded as just another alternative lifestyle when homosexuality is paraded as “normal.” This kind of spiritual blindness will only lead to destruction for a nation that embraces sin. The militant homosexual movement is marching...

To conservatives like me, the following proposal for raising taxes on Hollywood celebrities goes against my DNA. However, two facts are indisputable: (1) Hollywood is perhaps Obama's biggest booster club, giving him donations in kind and in dollars, and (2) Congress' stated goal is to raise taxes on the wealthy, although they will actually raise them on everyone. Therefore, with a bit of irony in mind, I propose the following for debate. After listening to Democrats argue that the wealthy aren’t paying their fair share of taxes, it’s time for Americans to take an empirical view of the massive wealth...

A new undercover video from James O’Keefe and Project Veritas shows Pat Moran, son of longtime incumbent congressman Jim Moran (D-VA) and field director for his father’s re-election campaign, instructing a supporter in how to use fraudulent documents to cast a hundred illegal votes: Note that Project Veritas prominently includes the unedited raw footage of this encounter, to counter the usual whines about false editing. There’s not much question about what happens here. An undercover operative posing as a very enthusiastic supporter says he’s got a hundred names of people who probably aren’t going to vote, and he wants to...

Seen here first, this ad, produced by the advocacy group Checks and Balances for Economic Growth, was funded with what a spokesperson called “a significant statewide buy in Ohio.” The ad calls out incumbent Ohio Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown for his claim that there was no “War on Coal.” Brown made this statement during an Oct. 15 debate with his GOP challenger Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel.

“I said we’d refocus on the people who actually attacked us on 9/11—and today, al-Qaeda is on the run and Osama bin Laden is dead.” (U.S. President Barack Obama, October 11, 2012.) “Let’s be clear, these protests (in Benghazi) were in reaction to a video that had spread around the region. We have no information to suggest that it was a preplanned attack.” (White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, September 14, 2012) Let’s fast-reverse almost exactly fifty years: (These missiles are) "nothing but refugee rumors. Nothing in Cuba presents a threat to the United States. There's no likelihood that the...

Americans are losing their religion, and that’s good news for Democrats. So says Pitzer College prof Phil Zuckerman in a fascinating breakdown in Bloomberg Businessweek. Americans have long been more religious than almost all other Western societies, but that’s changing fast, reports Pitzer: Which is good news for Democrats, because “63 percent of nonreligious Americans support the Democratic Party, with only 26 percent supporting Republicans.”

The New Hampshire governorship would give jihadists and Muslim Brotherhood operatives (not to mention very real Islamic terrorists) access to incredible power and influence. "Live Free or Die" is the official motto of the U.S. state of New Hampshire. If Hassan wins the Governorship, they'll have to amend that to "submit or die." Do you live in New Hampshire? Get involved and defeat this tool. Muslim Brotherhood: What does Maggie Hassan think of her husband’s Islamic radical friends that he brings to Philips Exeter Academy? Granite Grok Erickson [RedState] has absolutely lambasted and quartered the incestuous relationship that is the...

There was a time in America when a black man was scandalously counted as three-fifths of a man for congressional apportionment. (By the way, it was the Southern slave states that wanted blacks counted 100 percent for apportionment while northeasterners wanted them not to count at all. This was the compromise worked out.) History is repeating itself in Florida and Virginia – and, I’m sure other states to come. It’s not that Democrats don’t want to count black votes any more. In fact, they’d count them all twice if they could. Instead, mostly Democratic school officials in these states have...

Questions regarding possible campaign finance violations continue to plague Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz as her Federal Elections Commission (FEC) reports are coming under increased scrutiny... ...her campaign appears to have committed another possible FEC violation with regards to her campaign’s travel expenses and a leased private jet from a charter airplane company, New Flight Charters, which is based out of Jackson, Wyoming. First off, why would any Member of Congress or candidate have to use a private charter company for purposes of campaigning with a congressional district given how small most districts are in terms of square miles? ...The argument...

This month the Chicago Bar Association issued its judicial evaluations for the 50-plus judges running for retention, putting her and seven other judges under the “not recommended” category, as the association did in 2006 when she was up for re-election. ‘Not qualified’ The Chicago Council of Lawyers also recently found her “not qualified” — as the council did six years earlier. snip Court records obtained by the Sun-Times reveal she was examined by a court-appointed psychiatrist who believes she’s “presently mentally fit with medication” but opined she was “legally insane” at the time of the reported skirmish with the sheriff’s...
