You can add another voice from the media and education community to the growing list of military and government figures who are now talking about the potential realities of UFOs, no matter where they’re actually coming from. Daniel Drezner, a writer for the Washington Post, as well as a professor at Tufts University, tosses another log on the fire this week with a provocative proclamation. According to Drezner, we’ve hit the point where everyone needs to get used to the idea that we have things flitting around in our airspace that we can’t yet explain. He then dangles the bait...

UFOs are not the same thing as extraterrestrial life. But we should start thinking about that possibility. Footage from 2004 shows an encounter between a U.S. fighter jet and "anomalous aerial vehicles," which is military jargon for UFOs. Former intelligence officer Luis Elizondo arranged the release of the video before leaving the Department of Defense in Sept. 2017

President Donald Trump is one of the most controversial world leaders in modern times, igniting the ire of America’s staunchest allies. Whether it’s the proposed Muslim ban, the US border wall and immigration, or his praise of authoritarian leaders, Trump is deft at inciting deep divisions among the public. In 2018, political scientist Daniel Drezner summarized this consensus in The Washington Post: “The world hates President Trump.” Data from the Pew Research Center illustrates Drezner’s thinking. For the residents of US allies, their confidence in the US president dropped substantially from the last year of Obama’s presidency to the beginning...

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez engaged in heated debates on Twitter today over the credibility of a Washington Post fact check article about her. Here’s what you need to know. What happened?Glenn Kessler, fact check columnist for The Washington Post, published an article Thursday about Ocasio-Cortez. In it, the liberal media personality criticized the representative’s statements about the living wage. He wrote in the piece that there is not “a vast majority” of Americans who don’t earn a living wage, despite Ocasio-Cortez’s claims. He also pointed out that both Walmart and Amazon pay workers above the minimum wage, in contradiction to...

Last month Newsweek published an interesting exercise, asking critics to identify the book, film, television show, album, etc. that best encapsulated the George W. Bush era. Some of the choices — Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica, Green Day's American Idiot — were inspired. The film selections, however, were wanting. Evan Thomas argued in favor of Black Hawk Down, which was made prior to the September 11th attacks, released way back in December 2001, and is about a Clinton Administration fiasco. Furthermore, Thomas' interpretation of the film ("the overall effect was stirring, if slightly pornographic") does not jibe with my memory. Ridley...
