  • Dems, Media Outraged After Trump Calls MS-13 Gang Members ‘Animals’

Democrats, the mainstream media, and left-wing reporters are twisting President Trump’s words in calling MS-13 illegal alien gang members “animals.” During a roundtable discussion of California’s sanctuary state laws, Fresno Sheriff Margaret Mims mentioned to Trump the difficulty of working with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to notify them of an illegal alien MS-13 gang member. In response, Trump called the MS-13 gang members “animals,” as he’s done in the past MIMS: There could be an MS-13 gang member, I know about, if they don’t reach a threshold, I cannot tell ICE about them. [Emphasis added] TRUMP: We...

A Quinnipiac poll released this week reveals that a majority of Republican voters believe the media is “the enemy of the people.” In a survey of 1,193 registered voters conducted between April 20 and April 24, 51 percent of Republicans said they saw the media as an enemy, while only 37 percent of Republicans said they thought that the media was “an important part of democracy.” Overall, 66 percent of American voters said media is an “important part of democracy,” while 22 percent said they consider it to be an “enemy of the people.”

As the president promotes and excitedly tweets about a potential for peace between the two warring Koreas, he has displayed almost as much excitement over the recent overtures of one of America’s most acclaimed rappers. But it wasn’t just about Kanye this week. President Donald Trump and his allies once again plunged feet first into the pop-culture wars, riffing on Canadian singer-songwriter Shania Twain, YouTube celebs Diamond & Silk, and, of course, his bizarre bromance with Kanye West. It’s a sign that shows how vanishingly little has changed about Trump’s priorities and character ever since assuming the highest office in...

The far-left Daily Beast says it has “hit pause” on Joy Reid’s columns until its own reporters have had a chance to investigate her claim that homophobic writings attributed to her were actually written by a hacker. In other fallout news, the embattled MSNBC anchor canceled a public appearance, a high-profile panel discussion she was set to appear on in New York. On top of that, a gay rights group abruptly canceled an award Reid was scheduled to receive next month. “We’re going to hit pause on Reid’s columns,” wrote Daily Beast executive editor Noah Shachtman in an internal email....

The Daily Beast will suspend future columns from Joy Reid due to the fallout over comments she made on an old blog a decade ago, the website’s executive editor Noah Shachtman told staff in an internal memo on Wednesday. “We’re going to hit pause on Reid’s columns,” said Shachtman in an email reviewed by TheWrap. “As you’re well aware, support for LGBTQ rights and respect for human dignity are core to Daily Beast. So we’re taking seriously the new allegations that one of our columnists, Joy Reid, previously wrote homophobic blog posts during her stint as a radio host.” “Obviously,...

“No one in modern politics, male or female, has had to withstand more indignities, setbacks and cynicism. She developed protective armor that made the real Hillary Clinton an enigma. But if she was guarded about her feelings and opinions, she believed it was in careful pursuit of a dream for generations of Americans: the election of the country’s first woman president.” That would have been the nut graf of The New York Times story about Hillary Clinton’s historic victory that would have run under the headline “Madam President” spread across six front-page columns, according to reporter Amy Chozick’s new book,...

The children of conservative commentator Pamela Geller have been harassed and their social media talk show has been canceled after the Daily Beast revealed Geller was their mother. In her article titled, “The Instagram Stars Hiding Their Famous, Muslim-Hating Mom, Pamela Geller,” the Daily Beast’s Taylor Lorenz doxed the women as Pamela Geller’s daughters. They had not disclosed the family link, perhaps due to the recurring death threats from Muslim extremists that Geller receives. Following the release of Lorenz’s article, which was heavily criticized on social media, Geller’s four children immediately began to receive harassment and violent messages.

As Trump prepares to release a GOP document accusing the FBI of abuses, bureau alums hope Director Chris Wray holds the line—but has to be ready to walk. Former FBI agents are warning that FBI Director Christopher Wray has to be prepared to quit, should President Donald Trump assent over bureau objections to the release of a memo calling the FBI’s integrity into question. The release of the memo, considered imminent, shows no signs of stopping, even as the leader of Democrats in the House called on its Republican author, Devin Nunes, to be removed from his chairmanship of the...

Newsweek has fired several top editors and reporters in the midst of legal problems and widespread turmoil in the newsroom, according to staffers familiar with the decision. The magazine's news director, Cristina Silvia, announced in a staff meeting that editor in chief Bob Roe, executive editor Ken Li, reporters Celeste Katz and Josh Saul, and International Business Times editor Josh Keefe had all been fired, the Daily Beast reported Monday. The firings come after Newsweek was accused of buying fraudulent web traffic to trick the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau into buying ad space, and after the Manhattan District Attorney's office...

Chaos roiled the Newsweek offices Monday with the firings of the editor-in-chief, his number two and three reporters — possibly in retaliation for their unfavorable coverage of the company. Johnathan Davis, the co-founder/CEO of Newsweek Media Group, ordered the firing of top editor Bob Roe, his deputy Ken Li and reporters Celeste Katz and Josh Saul, as well as Josh Keefe, a reporter for the International Business Times, a sister company, a source said.

In his relentless efforts to demonize the press, Trump capitalized on a media landscape degraded by partisanship and media outlets emphasizing spin at the expense of substance. Donald Trump’s first year in office is drawing to a close, but his war on the media is not. It’s tempting to think we’ve been here before. Every president has considered himself the victim of skewed reporting and baseless slanders, and more than a few distrusted, denounced, and despised the press corps. In fact, most other presidents—including Barack Obama for his liberal Espionage Act prosecutions, and George W. Bush for his White...

It’s the most scrutinized email server of all time. But the president is demanding it get scrutinized again. And DOJ is taking a fresh look. Justice Department officials are taking a fresh look at Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she served as secretary of State, The Daily Beast has learned. An ally of Attorney General Jeff Sessions who is familiar with the thinking at the Justice Department’s Washington headquarters described it as an effort to gather new details on how Clinton and her aides handled classified material. Officials’ questions include how much classified information was sent...

The Department of Justice has caved to pressure from the White House and is reportedly reopening the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. According to the Daily Beast, there is a new effort in the department to get new details on how Clinton and her aides — including former top aide Huma Abedin — handled classified material. The effort will look at how much classified information was on her private email server, and how that information got there. President Trump has continually questioned if and when the Justice Department would reopen its...
  • Why People Hate the Media: Journalists Lash Out at Sanders Asking What They’re Thankful For

On Monday afternoon, some journalists provided another small nail in the coffin of the media’s credibility when they lost their collective minds on Twitter over White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders asking reporters to share what they’re most thankful for this Thanksgiving week.  Sanders still allowed reporters to ask questions and most responded with thoughtful answers, but a few ignored it (including the Associated Press’s Zeke Miller and Washington Post’s Jenna Johnson). For some journalists on Twitter, they lambasted Sanders for her “bizarre” exercise that one labeled “harmful to a democracy.”  NPR’s Domenico Montanaro was the most offended, showcasing...

Daily Beast columnist Jay Michaelson is unhappy with America's football fans. In a thoughtful column, he argues that "kneeling for the anthem is a sign of respect, not disrespect, for our country and the values it stands for." He adds that "To protest -- for whatever cause, left or right wing -- is to make real the best ideals of America: freedom of speech, democracy, the rule of law. Protesting brings those ideals into reality." But as players kneel in protest, America's football fans have not been pleased. Ratings and attendance are down while public perceptions of the NFL have...

The mainstream media have stepped up their complaints about President Trump amid pious howls mostly about the First Amendment. The issue, however, has nothing to do with that. It's that these organizations are openly asserting a right to define, control and impose their world-view on us. That's the real problem. To start, they are defining what is and isn't offensive in America today, claiming they can make those designations even while admitting they don't have all the facts, and that you, the reader, deserve to lose your job if you fall outside of the rigid box they construct. There are...

The Daily Beast falsely reported Sunday night that a pair of white supremacists had been identified as the perpetrators of the mass shooting at a Quebec City mosque. The rumor that white supremacists David M.J. Aurine and Mathieu Fournier were identified as the shooters appears to have been begun by a hoax Reuters account. Again, that isn’t really Reuters, but the tweet racked up over a thousand retweets. While many fell for the hoax on social media, the only outlet that reported on it was the Daily Beast. The parody account appeared to acknowledge the Daily Beast story, tweeting two...
