A woman who allegedly shouted "Allahu akbar" attacked two people with a box cutter at a supermarket in southern France on Sunday before she was arrested, local media reported. The incident took place around 10:30 a.m. at the supermarket Leclerc in the Mediterranean city of La Seyne-sur-Mer, located near Marseilles. Witnesses told Var-matin the young woman attacked a customer and employee. The woman was dressed in black and wearing a veil at the time, shouting "Allahu akbar" -- "God is great" in Arabic -- before she was placed under control by people intervening, according to Var-matin. Europe 1 radio quoted...
  • Letter: High court ruling on flag burning may quiet anthem uproar

The Supreme Court ruled that the government can’t ‘prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive.’Those in uproar over anthem should know about high court ruling on flag burning~The current brouhaha ignores one of our fundamental rights, the freedom of expression (speech). In its 1989 decision, Texas v Johnson, the Supreme Court ruled, “Government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable.” The court determined that publicly burning the American flag was protected speech. It would surprise and shock conservatives to learn that Justice...
  • 2 Deputies in Kansas Are Fatally Shot While Transporting Inmates

Two sheriff’s deputies in Kansas who were shot while transporting inmates from a jail to a court hearing on Friday died of their injuries, the police in Kansas City, Kan., said on Saturday. Officials said Friday that it appeared the deputies were shot with one of their own weapons. “When they pulled into the parking lot and readied to transport these inmates, they were overcome,” Maj. Kelli Bailiff, a spokeswoman for the Wyandotte County sheriff’s office, said at a news conference on Friday. “It is very possible that with their own firearm they were both shot.” A suspect was also...
  • It's time to stop saying the words 'Native Americans'

"Native American" is an offensive term, not to the people who it is used to describe, but everyone else born in the United States. The term "Native American" implies the rest of us aren't Native American. Most Americans are in fact native, meaning we were born here or to American parents. Having a group of Americans called "Native Americans" seems to delegitimize the rest of us, putting us on a lower moral grounds than the "Natives". The term "Native Americans" is also ridiculous in that ancestors of these individuals were present before America was formed.

VALENCIA, Spain (Reuters) - A migrant rescue boat turned away by Italy and Malta arrived at the Spanish port of Valencia on Sunday, ending a gruelling voyage which has made it a symbol of Europe's failure to agree on immigration. Spain swooped to help 629 mainly sub-Saharan Africans on board the Aquarius last week after Italy's new government, asserting its anti-immigrant credentials, refused to let it dock. Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who took office two weeks ago, took the opportunity to show a more liberal stance. But the plight of the Aquarius, run by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) with...

The Trump administration was motivated by bigotry and violated the rights of parents in the United States when it quietly revoked a program last year that had allowed thousands of children threatened with violence in Central America to join their parents here, advocates argue in a suit filed in San Francisco.

An elementary school set to open in Mountain View, Calif., next summer will be named after an illegal immigrant. The new school will be named after award-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, after the Mountain View Whisman School District board voted on Thursday. Vargas emigrated from the Philippines with his family to America when he was 12 years old. Vargas said, “As a proud product of the Bay Area’s public school system, I am overwhelmed by this totally unexpected and deeply meaningful honor." Vargas revealed his undocumented status in 2011, in a New York Times Magazine essay. "On the surface, I’ve...

Forget extreme plastic surgery, tattoos and piercings - a minority are taking body modification to the next level - by voluntarily cutting off their own limbs. A body modifier has exclusively revealed how his "extra" limbs feel alien, and has resorted to the drastic measure of self-mutilation - because he actually want to be disabled. Dr. Michael First, a professor of psychiatry at Columbia University, has led investigations into this bizarre and extremely rare psychiatric condition which he is calling body integrity identity disorder (BIID). Also known as amputee identity disorder, it gives people a fierce desire to rid themselves...

Cecile Richards’s editorial in the June 13th Los Angeles Times is indicative of the inaccuracies propagated by Planned Parenthood, the organization she led for 12 years.Richards is dismayed with what she calls Arkansas’s effort to “ban medication abortion.” It was no ban. Participants in the abortion industry are free to prescribe the chemical abortion pills provided they have a basic safety standard in place for women – that is, a contract with another physician who can facilitate an emergency hospital treatment should the need arise. And it does.Richards called chemical abortion “safer than Tylenol and Viagra” and railed against state legislators in...

Mr. Trump has stated he would like to meet with the leader of Russia.  As part of our post-tax season vacation this year, we spent nine days visiting the Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.   We highly recommend you visit these great emerging democracies, but more importantly President Trump should visit them on his way to Russia to reinforce our support for their freedom. It just worked out to visit them this year, but it was glorious to be there during the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the three countries as independent states coming from the aftermath of...

Sure, she’s always been a little nutty, but over the years House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has gradually shifted from liberal feminist icon to everyone’s batty “a little bit out of it” aunt who knows just enough words-about-political-stuff to be dangerous. So in the spirit of hoping Pelosi is still up for fighting for her old speaker’s gavel come November, here are the five craziest things Nutty Nancy has said in 2018 alone. (Why just this year, you ask? Because I only have one column, not a book!)“A nuclear bomb in your pocket.”Pelosi told reporters on Wednesday that it “pays to have a...

Have you ever wondered why rage seems to be “all the rage” with liberals these days? Every time you turn around there’s another march for this or protest against that; recycled chants about how something “has got to go,” and a fawning media all too happy to report it as if it were news. It’s not news, of course, it’s a mass temper tantrum by political activists still unhappy their fellow Americans chose to reject Hillary Clinton in 2016. But there’s more to it than that, something strategic is at play.Have you ever stubbed your toe and cursed in front...

On a blustery afternoon in April, I filed into a van along with 10 students from Harvard. We had just spent the last two days in Chicopee, Mass., where we had chatted with the police chief and his force, the mayor and his staff, small-business owners, waitresses and firemen about their struggles living in small-town America. The undergrads were buzzing with their impressions. Chicopee is about 90 miles west of their prestigious university in Cambridge, but when it comes to shared experience, it might as well have been 1,000 light years away. As they settled in, I looked at them....

. Cardinal Timothy Dolan blasted the Trump administration’s policy of separating kids from their parents on Friday night, calling it “un-American and unbiblical.” The White House got into holy hot water this week when Attorney General Jeff Sessions and press secretary Sander Huckabee Sanders both referenced scripture to claim the administration has the moral authority to forcibly take kids away from parents if they cross the southern border illegally. “I mean, that’s just unjust. That’s un-American and unbiblical,” Dolan, leader of New York City’s 2.8 million Catholics, told CNN on Friday night. Sessions specifically cited the Apostle Paul who in...

The city councilors who voted for the removal of Charlottesville's two Confederate monuments may be liable for damages and legal fees if the court ultimately rules in favor of the plaintiffs in the case, according to a written opinion signed Thursday by Charlottesville Circuit Judge Richard E. Moore. In a news release, The Monument Fund, a group involved in the lawsuit against the city, announced that the court had sent the parties a letter explaining its opinion on whether the councilors are entitled to immunity. “There may still be some questions, even if defendants are not immune, as to what...
