SARASOTA — Driving with your car stereo too loud here can already get you a ticket. If Sarasota police have their way it could also get your car impounded and cost you at least $500 to get it back. Sarasota police want the authority to tow away drivers' cars if they are caught playing the stereo too loud, driving with a suspended license or leaving the scene of a minor crash -- all misdemeanor charges. Sarasota police Lt. Steve Breakstone said towing a car and charging the owner a $500 fine to pick it up is an effective crime-fighting tool...

Several prominent lobbyists, including Tommy Boggs, turned down overtures to work for Libya on the case, despite offers of a reported $1.5 million retainer. Vicki Reggie Kennedy, wife of Ted, actually resigned a partnership in her law firm over its decision to represent Libya, even though—as far as I can tell—she was never asked to do any work on the case. But not good ol' Fred. . . . In a political era in which the cost of a man's haircut can be treated as though it were a window into his soul, you'd think people would be a little...

October 7, 2006 New York -- Six officials of the Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club stole $1.2 million from the group, money meant for needy kids and seniors, a city probe has found. Investigations Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn calls it "disgusting" - the worst case of wrongdoing by a non-profit contractor she's seen since taking office. Thank goodness the thieves will be going to jail for a very long time - and paying back every cent, and then some. Well, actually, that's not quite true. In fact, nobody is going to jail. Not even for a single day. And...

PLYMOUTH (June 7) - Plymouth resident Brian Sullivan was sick to his stomach on Sept. 11, 2001.

Not unusual. Almost everyone felt ill on that particular day.

Unlike the rest of us, however, Sullivan was not sick from the utter shock and surprise of what had happened. He was distraught because he had predicted something just like it, and his best efforts to prevent it had not worked.
