ST. PETERSBURG - A six-week gun bounty program announced in the wake of the Newton school shooting yielded mixed results, police said today. Police recovered 120 firearms and more than 4,000 rounds of ammunition, while making 34 arrests and seizing nearly $74,000. But investigators received only one tip through Crime Stoppers that led to an arrest and the seizure of a handgun, St. Petersburg Police Chief Chuck Harmon said. Under the program, announced in January, anyone who provided information leading to the confiscation of an assault rifle and an arrest would get $1,500 through the Crime Stoppers program. Information leading...

Shouldn’t we be able to see an audit of every taxpayer dollar spent on the Muslim Brotherhood? Between the F-16′s, US millions of dollars wasted on Afghanistan police cars, direct money aid, and now this. A shipment of teargas canisters from the United States arrived at the Egyptian Abadeya Port in Suez on Sunday, according to official documents obtained by the Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper. Five containers carrying around 140,000 teargas canisters were apparently shipped to the Egyptian Interior Ministry by the Aramex International courier service. The Egypt Independent reports that the shipping documents state that only the Egyptian government may...

If news about the TSA agent stealing an iPad from a tourist or the TSA agents forcing an injured Marine to remove his prosthetic legs made you mad, this one will leave you absolutely fuming. On February 2, TSA agent Christopher Wilkie, a nine year employee of the TSA and resident Long Beach, NY was arrested for hitting his 75-year old mother. Wilkie, age 42, was arrested near his mother’s home after a witness saw him strike his mother while they were inside a car. He was charged with third-degree assault on a person over 60, second-degree harassment, second-degree threatening...

Detroit Gets The Destination Nod Over Chicago DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit is better than Chicago!! That’s according to at least one travel writer, who has compiled a list of over-rated destinations and suggested alternatives. While Michiganders can give you a plethora of choices in the state that are select and unique it’s always nice to get a nob from outsiders. Among the reasons David Landsel tells travelers to try the Motor City over the Windy City? World-class architecture, a great music scene, and cheaper and better beer. • Typical Detroit neighborhood • Community activists in Chicago promote "peace"

At least 12 people were wounded Tuesday in stabbings on the campus of Lone Star College Cy-Fair near Houston, local media outlets are reporting. As many as 14 people were hurt in the stabbing spree. Police say they have arrested a suspect. One victim is reportedly in critical condition. It was initially thought that there was a second attacker still at large, but officials now believe the attacks have ended. Officials put the school on lockdown in the aftermath of the attacks, telling students to stay away from the area. Those already on campus were told to seek shelter immediately....

Research on mass shootings over the last decade has bolstered the idea that people at the scene of an attack have a better chance of survival if they take an active stance rather than waiting to be rescued by the police, who in many cases cannot get there fast enough to prevent the loss of life. In an analysis of 84 such shooting cases in the United States from 2000 to 2010, for example, researchers at Texas State University found that the average time it took for the police to respond was three minutes. “But you see that about half...

A rare, salacious lawsuit against the elite DC private school drags high-profile Washingtonians into unwanted limelight and airs graphic e-mails from the psychologist who taught sex ed at the Obama daughters’ school. By Mary Yarrison, Harry Jaffe Comments (110) | Published April 9, 2013 The exceedingly messy lawsuit between Arthur “Terry” Newmyer and Sidwell Friends School is headed for trial—and the circle of high-profile Washingtonians wrapped up in the case is expanding. At a hearing last week, DC Superior Court judge Michael Rankin set a trial date of November 18, 2013. Newmyer first filed suit against Sidwell and its former...

SO THE MAYOR OF BOSTON, channeling his inner Captain Renault, is shocked – shocked! – to find that Boston's taxi industry is a rigged and pitiless racket. Why, until he read about it in the Boston Globe, Tom Menino never had a clue that in the city he has presided over for 20 years, cabbies are commonly treated like serfs, abused by multimillionaire owners who flout the law with impunity. If it hadn't been for the Spotlight team's detailed exposé, the mayor still wouldn't know about all those besieged Boston cab drivers, most of them immigrants, who have to work...

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) - An argument on social media led to a fight in New Haven and two people being arrested Sunday afternoon. According to police, an unidentified 14-year-old girl got into a argument on Facebook with another woman and "slanderous talk" was used during the conversation, police said. Three women including an unidentified 17-year-old, Quanisha Cole, 18 and Tiffany Guardino, 25, came to the girl's home on Ferry Street just before 1 p.m. Police were called by the 14-year-old girl's mother and when officers arrived they took a baseball bat from one of the females. No one was...

The recently passed UN Global Arms Trade Treaty contains a provision that would ban those over 55 years old from owning guns. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon explained that “most crimes are committed by gun-wielding assailants who generally are younger than their victims. If we allow those who are near the end of their lives to use guns to kill these younger assailants the human race will be losing more ‘life-years,’ on balance. Therefore, it is better that these elderly victims not be given the means to resist even if that means they will be slain by their attackers.” if...

State Representative Beth McCann (D-Denver) expressed disappointment over having to withdraw her bill aimed at preventing “dangerous persons” from legally acquiring firearms. Under the proposed bill, the names of persons determined to be unworthy of owning firearms could have been confidentially entered onto a national registry and thereby blocking them from purchasing these weapons. “The beauty of my proposal is that the doctors, nurses, and counselors blacklisting these threats would be protected from potential retaliation for doing what they felt was necessary for public safety,” McCann boasted. “The nuts that would’ve been systematically barred from ever obtaining a gun would’ve...

With gun control, murder, and race much in the news, it’s worth noting that the Obama Administration has solved its longstanding problem that, according to the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics, blacks commit the majority of homicides in the US. For years, the press has been explaining that more gun control is necessary to keep white men from killing everybody. For example, last Friday the Washington Post featured an opinion article that began: Imagine if African American men and boys were committing mass shootings month after month, year after year. Articles and interviews would flood the media, and we’d have...

While the notorious domestic terrorist group the Weather Underground was founded decades ago, its surviving members have gone on to become part of America’s “intelligentsia.” In fact, despite her conviction for murder, radical member Kathy Boudinhas even been appointed as adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of Social Work. Boudin, who served 22 years in prison for her role in the 1981 Brinks truck robbery that claimed the lives of three people, has never shown remorse for her crimes and even allegedly lamented before students at New York University last month on how she wished her friends and fellow convicted...

Considering McLelland was part of a task force that investigated the Aryan Brotherhood, and in light of the recent killing of Colorado prison chief Tom Clements allegedly by a member of a white supremacist prison gang, this theory that the AB may have been involved in the murders clearly has some merit. Yet in that coverage, the mainstream media has gone to great lengths to label ad-infinitum the Aryan Brotherhood as a “white supremacist” group, implying a racial motivation. The AB, even if involved at all, however, may have been motivated not by a "white supremacist” philosophy, but rather by...

Say hello to Jose Zarata, 25, described by a sheriff’s deputy in Maricopa County, Arizona, as “a non-U.S. citizen who has been living in the country without proper authorization.” Turns out there were other things Jose wanted to do “without proper authorization,” such as dating the 13-year-old daughter of Maria Saucedo. She said “no,” so Jose shot her in the chest. The Associated Press won’t call Jose Zarata an “illegal immigrant,” nor will they mention that the age of consent is 12 in Mexico, so we have to turn to other sources....
