(CNN) - Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told reporters on Monday that he plans to visit East Palestine, Ohio, “when the time is right” and announced new efforts by his agency to improve rail safety in the wake of a train derailment that has left local residents questioning the safety of their soil, air and water. “I am very interested in getting to know the residents of East Palestine, hearing from them about how they’ve been impacted and communicating with them about the steps that we’re taking,” Buttigieg said on a Monday call, adding that he had referred to past common...

Prevented from golfing for two days by a steady rain that caused minor flooding on the island, President Obama seized on the better weather yesterday, pressing some flesh in Oak Bluffs and finally hitting the links again. Obama, joined wife Michelle, daughters Malia and Sasha, and a group of friends for an hourlong lunch at Nancy’s Restaurant overlooking Oak Bluffs Harbor. Obama, who could be seen through a second-floor window drinking a bottle of Corona Light (with a slice of lime), was accompanied by friends Valerie Jarrett, Eric and Cheryl Whitaker. Afterward, the president tossed his jacket aside and shook...

MISSION - Hidalgo County Republican Party Chairman Hollis Rutledge says he is confident that John McCain and John Cornyn will patch up any differences they still have over immigration policy, should McCain be elected president. In May 2007, the two U.S. senators famously got into a shouting match over the finer points of a bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill. The Washington Post reported at the time that McCain swore at Cornyn, accusing the Texas Republican of trying to “blow up” a pact between Republicans and Democrats. Cornyn countered that the Arizona Republican was trying to “parachute” in on delicate Senate...

Kilmer Seen Here Researching A biopic Of Rosie O'Donnell At 8:30 this morning, a movie starring Kilmer, "Columbus Day," was about to film in Echo Park near downtown L.A. The residents were supposed to move their cars off the street. The wife of a TMZ staffer was at home, taking care of her one-year-old child when she heard banging at the front door. A woman named Kelli Lassen told the staffer's wife, "You need to move your f**king car because we need to park the toilets for the Val Kilmer movie." Nice. We contacted Lassen, who at first denied...

Yaa, you repukes are not doing so well, huh? Imagine, you repukes control the presidency, both houses of Congress, and appointed 7 of the 9 Supreme Court justices. Yet the Supreme Court thre out sodomy laws in all 50 states and recognized the right of government to seize land for any reason. And you couldn't pass your Social Security changes could you? Sorry, that was your last shot. Come November, we're going to start seeing more Democratic faces in the House. It's the end for you guys. You guys are celebrating when Bush's numbers go *up* to 45%. Then Faux...

Bush’s giant Right Wing Noise Machine (RWNM) loves to preach about the Bush economic miracle. In fact, the RWNM’s current thinking is Bush doesn’t spend enough time talking about his economic triumphs. If only he did, then everyone would fall in line and believe in the great Bush economic miracle. There is one problem with this argument: it’s a lie. Any way you look at the Bush economy, it comes up short. Today, I want to compare Bush’s job creation record with other economic recoveries. As usual, Bush comes up way short. The national Bureau of Economic Research has identified...

Why does anybody support George w Bush as President? He is clearly the worst President I have ever seen -- a complete disaster. And before you say anything, I have been a registered Republican for 25 years.

Lies of omission about 9/11 -- stoking fears of terrorism THEY WANT YOU TO BE AFRAID The following post was censored by freerepublic.com shortly after it was posted on their "public" forum on 9/11/04. That forum is designed to appear as though it is a community forum open to all, but this post only received three responses before it and its replies were deleted, and a repeat posting at 4 am PST on 9/20/04 didn't stay online for 5 minutes! Someone is apparently watching closely over the content of the freerepublic.com forums and censoring them 24/7 (though they might have...

It could cost a Cambria landowner more than $100,000 to relocate more than half the 80 large palm trees he planted near the coast. California Coastal Commission staff is reviewing a proposal to remove the trees in question. About 50 of the trees can be seen from Highway 1. Commission planner Steve Monowitz is reviewing a proposal to relocate more than half the palms. "Preserving the visual character of the area will be essential" in evaluating a proposal to move the non-native trees, said Monowitz. The state panel's approval for Khosro Khaloghli's 10,000-square-foot home on 78 acres says he can...

Here's the link to an inevitable, IMO, attack on President Bush's Yalta comments from an insignificant wannabe "journalist" seeking some modicum of relevance in a world that has left him behind: http://www.lmtribune.com/05102005/opinions/254342.php

Thomas still a bad choice, Hill says Wednesday, February 23, 2005 By Kyla King The Grand Rapids Press GRAND RAPIDS -- In the 13 years since Anita Hill testified during Senate confirmation hearings about alleged sexual harassment by then-Supreme Court Justice nominee Clarence Thomas, she has written books, taught at two universities and penned numerous opinion pieces. And although she will be in Grand Rapids on Thursday to speak about race and gender issues, she expects people also will want to talk about her role in one of the biggest political controversies of the time. "It was a big event,...

About a year ago, there was a story about a Senate computer that was found to have confidential memos of the democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee. They memos, which were simply left out in the open, were copied by non-dems.The memos were reputed to outline democrat criminality, dirty tricks, obstructionism and their usual whiny complaints about no longer being able to be arbitrary or inreasonable. Those memos have not yet been released or leaked even though they contain information that may be instructive to voters in November. Why haven't these memos been released? What do they contain? Why is Senate...
